And if the pot reaches say 30 Billion mesos, wouldn't that seem a bit overpowered to whoever wins it? And how would we give a player that much meso?
I think this game mechanism is a bad idea: 1. It is not inherently fun. New game elements should ideally be fun on its own. Examples of this are (party) quests. Many people do them regardless of the rewards. There is nothing enjoyable about buying a lottery ticket, the only fun part is winning the price. 2. People tend to get addicted to lotteries. The fact that you can only buy 1 ticket for a fixed price reduces this problem, but still, people might buy tickets on multiple characters. For some games, addiction is their business model, but since royals is non-pay-to-win, people won't donate unless they enjoy the game, so there is no reason to want to make people addicted. 3. This is a comment I made a while ago when someone suggested adding daily login rewards. The same response applies to this idea: People who are not that into the game anymore will continue to come online because they feel like they have to buy a lottery ticket every week even though they aren't enjoying the game anymore. 4. You state luck-based money making as a pro. This point is more opinion based than the others, but in my opinion skill- and dedication-based money making are more fair and desirable.
I dunno about how much work is it and im not suggesting they should do it anytime soon. and for the nostalgic part - i don't remember getting 8k nx each day when i played it 10 years ago. and i don't think something like this would change anything in the the gameplay itself as the mere time and effort you put in it is only buying a ticket. That's something that can always be capped, or You can just make 5 winners (1st - 50% of pool , 2nd - 25% and so on....) this kind of obstacles is something you can always solve pretty easily just by changing the ticket cost. 1. fun is objective to your luck here, it's never fun losing just as it's not fun grinding hours on a monster to try and find a rare item and get nothing , besides someone doesn't feel like participating he can always save his money and stay out. 2. like i said if you limit the amount you can buy this should be a problem and besides you could say the same about scrolling, people gamble away billions trying to scroll perfect items, that's an even worse gambling addiction but no one cares because it's not real money, it's a game and part of the fun is to gamble without worry for the consequences. 3. the same can be said on those events they make which make you login every 4 hours to get your reward. 4. that's your choice and you are entitled to it but like i said many aspects of this game contain luck and i don't see this as a valid reason to deny this type of game just because it's based on luck.
The way I see it the way this would get implemented would be a custom npc that would automate the whole process. Or else it would be too much work for the staff to handle. I hate the idea of "Custom NPC's". Custom NPC's just leaves a bad taste in the mouth, also makes it feel more than a "private server" rather than the real thing.
you can use existing npcs for something like this like the one used in the FM to sell donor haircuts.
true you got a point there. But still this is a function that was not in the original client, thus it would take away from the nostalgic feel. Nx was a function in the original client, private servers just changed how it was functioning/ distributed. Donor points is basically Nx in another form.
1. If fun is objective to your luck, why implement a system where the overwhelming majority won't be lucky? Yes, people can choose to not participate, but if this counts as an argument, you can implement any new feature with the same reasoning. There have to be some legitimate reasons for implementing new features. 2. Indeed, you could say the same about scrolling, and that's right to an extend. The reason why I think there is a distinction however is that people are relatively familiar with percentages like 10%, 30%, 60%, 70% and 100%. Winning a lottery in royals however might have a chance of 0.01%. Many if not most people are delusional when it comes to small chances like this. When people lose, somehow they get a feeling that next time they'll be more likely to win. You could argue, like in the previous point, that it's up to the people to decide what they do, and I largely agree with this notion. With that said though, I see no reason to implement a feature that makes use of people's flawed thinking. 3. Yes... It sound like you assumed that I would defend these types of events, but I don't. 4. Even if you don't see reasons to deny a feature, you still need to provide convincing reasons as to why to accept this feature.
i don't feel the same about it. i mean i wanted a notalgic ms server but just because i wanted the nostalgic doesn't mean i want to have 1x exp rate and such just like the original nostalgic ms so there are after all some things which don't match the original ms. some things i think help strengthen this server even if it doesn't match the nostalgic ms, though we should be careful about the changes to not harm the game or throw it off balance. IMO i showed some valid points toward adding this lottery and i don't see the nostalgic feel as something that should be considered a valid point if you can't point out the actual repercussions of this feature. evetually it somes up to your objection toward it against other who are intrested in it. in any case if the majority shows interest in this feature i don't see why not consider it, and those who reject it for personal reasons can always refrain from using it.
Hey do you scroll your RC using WA51 ones? Because, man, nostalgia! Those WA91 RCs are ruining muh nostalgia waaah. Nostalgia factor is really a weak factor. Everyone has different nostalgia. I doubt adding one or two original things in a private server will make people stop playing all together.
Stay on topic please, if you want to make a thread about it go ahead no one is stopping you. I was simply saying it was a function that was not in the game originally. Thus it takes away from nostalgia.
And why do you think I brought up the wa51 RC thing up? Did you think godly system was in the system? Not sure if you can see what I'm trying to point out here...
we are going way off topic. http://bbb.hidden-street.net/eq/claw/red-craven There was already a function where items had 1-2 stat diffrence. Royals didn't implement a new function they just changed the old one in my opinion. Also we do not have hammers which I think the "Godly system" is meant to make up for.
They didn't change the old system, the godly system works on top of the 1-2 stat difference of old maple. But yes, let's get back on topic now.
Pretty sure this has been brought up before with exclusive NX items as prizes instead of pure meso. Food for thought.
Doesn't matter if they changed it or not, added on top or not. End result made a change to the whole system...
No, but lets run some numbers, shall we? Say 500 people throw in 10m each, a pretty decent pot, 5b. Now, there are people who have 50b. Nothing wrong with that IMO, what's wrong is them throwing in 10x the current pot, effectively neutralizing everyone elses odds. It's matter of numbers, we don't have the population that safeguards against this. In the US, a 100m pot is 100m-50m tickets (depending on the ticket prize), and with a us pop of 300m, it's not crazy to think a good number of those tickets are single sales. Besides taxes, there's a reason the government does the lotteries, they can enforce rules put in place to stop people from gaming the system. I'm not against the idea, it just needs to be done correctly. IMO, a better idea would be (like one of the GMs said), is have tickets sell for 1-10m or something, and have the winner get a special NX prize that's not normally obtainable. Creates the meso sink, and if people want to throw in all their money, they don't have a realistic chance of having better odds the following week.
I don't know id you guys alrady say it, but how about rare chairs ? I think that's more fun with out waste mesos
