    Hello.

My friend and I are relatively new (~2-3 weeks old) players. We started shortly after the Anniversary Event began.

Since we are new, we don't have the money to purchase candles. We also don't play too-too much (a few hours most days), and she is more of a "casual" gamer (read: she wants to have fun via exploration and stuff, rather than hardcore grinding in the most optimal places). The result is that after about 3 weeks we are MAYBE almost level 60.

That said, with the small amount of candles we've gotten (Maybe we'll put together 10k in total over the course of the entire event, maybe 20k if the price keeps dropping and we blow ALL of our mesos on them), I want to know if there are any items to purchase that are absolutely "must own," like best-in-slot pieces.

I should add that I'm no MS expert (I've basically always been wandering around cluelessly in this game for fun), so I don't know what the traditional "best in slot" items entail. Judging from what I've seen, the Maple Scarf seems inferior to the Deputy Badge right? Is there something similar for the leaf/earrings, or should we feel bad if we don't purchase them?

    Thanks

A lot of people seem to go for the Maple Scarf since it gives 1 Weapon Attack which makes it superior to the Deputy Badge, especially since it can be chaos'ed in the future.

For "must have" items, I would probably go for the Earrings and the Scarf. (depending on how well you scroll them).

Since you are short on candles I think it's better if you invest it towards the Earrings. The Maple Earrings are a must for all non-mages, especially for warriors, since they add Accuracy +15 and Avoidability +15 which are invaluable for bossing.

There are some problems with Scarf if you plan to get it

    1. It slightly outclasses Deputy Star, but is only really worth it if you chaos it. Otherwise it remains kind of underwhelming.

    2. Thus, you have to go all out if you really want to maximize this item's value, and chaos scrolls are expensive.

    3. You can only get 1 scarf, so you cannot guarantee that this investment will 100% be worth it.

30% chance of improving atk, 30% chance of ruining it and 40% chance of remaining underwhelming. If you want to get rid of the 40%, you have to WS, and that costs even more.

So tldr; Better get the earrings first if you're short on candles and you're a non-mage. Scarf is not a guaranteed investment.

If you're a mage, I'd suggest the earrings too. You're better off with those + a Dep Star rather than getting the scarf. A bit of free Luk is always handy for lukless mages in particu
lar, if they want to equip something with better stats than a bathrobe.

The Maple Earrings are nice on a mage, but I do think that Fallen Leaf Earrings do end up replacing them later on.

Yup, and FL earrings have a chance to be godly and are far easier to hunt and find so you can spam 30%s on them. Maple Earrings on the other hand are very costly.
