Would you kindly permit the use of letters with acute (á), grave (à), circumflex (â), diaresis (ä) and tilde (ã) in character names – like on the European MapleStory? Personally, I want to use the letter "í" in my character's name.

I'm pretty sure the GMS client does not have support for those characters and that's why they cannot be used.

In german we use ä ü ö too. But as ill use english for communication 99% of the time its not too bad.
You could maybe use ae ue and oe instead of ä ü and ö.

I really liked using "å" in my character names back in the days.

No it is not possible. The only way is if a custom client is used but that is still a ways off

To elaborate on John's answer - Not possible, unless Kevin managed to find a MapleEurope localhost and see which addresses in the client needs to be modified, in addition to modifying the hosting servers as well as the source code to allow such characters in the payload of a packet, which will be tons of unnecessary work for such feature which will only cater to... how many % of the community?

If you look at the bigger picture, even if this is possible (but super troublesome and just not worth the effort), what makes you think the rest of the community will not ask for it? Example, China/Taiwanese players will ask for Mandarin characters to be supported, so on and forth for other players of different nationalities. So at the end of the day, it's an endless cycle (and to make the situation even more troublesome, I don't think Kevin can read/write so many different languages, although I would give a benefit of doubt ~f3).

So personally, I'm against this idea. Not only for the sake of it being very troublesome, but also for the sake of preventing any potential conflicts across languages in the future should this feedback be implemented.

I was playing GMS a month ago and they allow character names to contain characters with markings. Not sure if they're EU Letters though.

They couldn't have done it in a more confusing way either, as you need to copy and paste the characters into the game, since their client still only supports accepting direct input from English keyboard layouts.

Any change 7 years later? I've been trying to get a new character for 30 minutes. So many taken names..
