    Hey everyone!

I'm planning on hosting regular community events, and with regular I mean weekly, if not more. I think this would be a great addition to the current spectrum of events hosted by the GMs, as well as my fellow Royaller Manny (iiTragedy).

However, one problem arises. Events wouldn't truly be events with some good prizes being given out. For me, events are a good distraction and are a fun and entertaining experience. Most others, however, might share this opinion, but also want a small reward for their hard work during these events.

I'm afraid I'm not in the position to be able to give out such prizes. I have some money, but not enough to financially support regular events at the moment. This might change as I start to make some money again, now that I've un-quit.

I'd be hosting several types of events, both luck- and skill-based. I will also make sure all timezones are covered, so North American, European and Asian players can all join events.

First of all, would you participate in events without big prizes being given out? Then I would gladly host several events per week, even.

Second of all, I was thinking of something to make some extra cash for the events. Also a sort of event, actually. What would everyone think of a Weekly Lottery? You could buy lottery tickets for 1,000,000 mesos each, and all winnings would go to the event prize pot. And, of course, the majority of the money will come straight back at all of you, making it enjoyable and fun for you, too! What's life withouta little risk, aye? :D

Donations would, of course, also be welcome, but I won't be counting on those to fund the events. Anyone willing to donate should, of course, know that I won't make any profit with it and that all donations go straight into the event prize pot, so it's all for the MapleRoyals community. c:

So, thoughts? Comments? Please post them below, and vote for one of the poll options. :)

I'd love a lottery; it's something I was thinking of suggesting too. I don't like how you leave out African players though. >:D>:D>:D

I could see myself participating without big prizes being given out. Especially if the event sounds enjoyable.
The weekly lottery sounds cool. Just hoping a lot of people participate if it becomes a thing.

I will be hosting a wide variety of events, including all events in Raddy's Event Database and the events I have both created and hosted back when I was a GM. I might also add a couple more over time, if I get creative again. c: You can take a look and see if you find those enjoyable!

I don't really have any opinions on the events, since I'm not sure what type of events would take place, but I do think the lottery would be a very interesting experience.

There might be some things you want to consider though with the lottery. If you allow people to buy more tickets for every extra 1 mill, then you'll most likely discourage the newer and/or less funded players from participating. The more funded people you have participating, the substantially less chances unfunded characters have of winning. This bias in the results may cause frustration, and may cause more people to leave then actually participate.

This bias will always be present if you're going to allow multiple tickets, but it would be a good idea to reduce the bias. A proposal to this would be considering a maximum ticket cap so people can't just buy their way to victory. Depending on how large the jackpot you want, you could adjust the cap limit to make sure that everything is as fair as it can be.

I am also assuming that you are going to be giving people ticket numbers as they buy them, but do you have any way of getting a completely random result? Would the draw be transparent for all of the participants to make sure that no bias in the selection has taken place? Would you have a way to make sure that all of the users trust the results besides blind trust?

I really like the idea of a draw, but it should be handled very carefully to make sure that every participant is confident with the results.

Oh I should've mentioned that... The chance of winning is the same for everyone, the amount of tickets just determine the amount you win in case you do. The more tickets, the more you earn when you win. I will set a maximum of tickets you can buy, too. I will probably take 20% of the winnings for the event pot, by the way.

And yes, you will get a set of numbers when you participate so everyone know's what's up. I will also make the sheet with everyone's numbers public so everyone can see there's nothing fishy going on!

    Hi ^^

I'd like to take part in events. I'm not sure about the lottery though. That's just because I don't like gambling.

I'm interested to see what kind of events you make :) Best of luck

    I wish I made a poll...

It seems to me everyone likes the idea of Weekly Lottery, but some more feedback would be nice to have! ~

I think the weekly lottery is the idea which has the most potential of the two you mentioned (events with small / no prizes + lottery).

The reason why I, personally, wouldn't attend one of those events is the same reason why I am currently skipping the GM events such as the jump quest that was held today. Being new to the server makes me want to continue leveling, trading, hunting for equips & etc rather than participate in activities. GM events, user events, guild events are all lower priority for me. Especially if I'm in a map that isn't too easy to get to. :L Constantly training and leveling puts me in certain maps which aren't too close to towns. This is another reason which discourages me from attending. Just overall, I'm more geared towards setting up my character rather than participating in events of any kind. Maybe I'm just not that into events in general, lol.

There's also players who don't speak English very well ( if you have to explain rules ) and don't use the forums, that would have to be thought about ( If that was ever a concern to begin with :p ).

Good luck if you do hold some events, Marty! ^^ I hope you have a pleasant turnout.

I don't like the direction you set for these events. And by that I mean 1) gather money from community 2) give money to winner.

Instead of lottery based events that get boring (placing bets/ luck games), AND to solve your need to award every event winner with money/items, why don't you award points?

    Weekly events have winners.

    First place 10 points, 2nd 5pts, 3rd 2pts, and so on.

After a certain amount of points are reached, prizes are given. Also, point holders can bet their points against each other in skill-based contests (JQs, etc), further increasing chances of people with few points to climb up. These bets would have to be arbitrated and recorded, of course.

So right now, I will probably start with the weekly lottery and work from there. Would be nice if I would get some more input, not many votes so far... :)

This would be a nice change, seeing as the only GM events I've seen over the last two weeks have been Jump Quests and Russian Roulette. I also think the lottery is a good idea, and it would bring the community even closer together, in my opinion.
