Server is not dead homie. Lots of people playing, chatting it up, events are quite active and in fact hard to find room in channels for cake boss and tree. Although a few things are not working, it is still a work in progress, and it is growing to what seems like, hopefully, its old popularity among private servers, if not already on the top. Give it time :p

Server's dead alright, that's why we average 500-600 people online, why we're #2 on gtop only behind Ellinia which doesn't count because they're a post-big bang server. The server is so dead in fact, that all 20 channels of the cake boss fill up within 15 minutes in the middle of the day. The maple tree hill goes off at least twice a day. But nah, we're dead. Just because a couple of things missing, go ahead and ignore all the progress made every day :p

I haven't stuck it out for the past 6 months (technically almost 3 years if you want to be real) just to say it's dead, don't worry. :p

Server will continue to be half of its original numbers until shops re open. Then I expect a decent sized boost when people can start selling and buying again without using forums/trading

Those are some bold claims. You should be aware that you are an outsider giving "advice" to people who have spent years with the game and it's community.
EDIT: I personally don't care for the shops because I play ironman almost entirely.

I mean, for what it's worth, I've been on this server since 2013 (never made forum account here) and played global since beta in 2005. But I don't know what you mean. You think it won't recover, or that it will?

I would say with confidence that no shops are a big reason for people not playing right now. Not being able to search all the shops and buy items is a turn off because trading manually takes so much time. Right now you can't even play new characters if you want to HP wash because you need INT gear, which is currently more difficult to find. While I understand shops weren't always a thing in original global, it's the fact that people know they are coming, and so people are just waiting until they come back.

Not saying shops are the only reason - there's still some stability issues and other misc. things. Will need to give it more time.

In the point of view of the staffs, we're complete aware of what is causing the drop in our daily active users. Of course, it takes time to update the server. As of now, Kevin is placing his 100% focus on resolving the frequent d/c issues. Hopefully this fix alone will increase back our DAU. Then again, of course we will be moving onto further contents once that has been resolved, say maybe HT and Merchant. :)

I have joined like a week before the new source and got myself very good int gear for my new sair (which is my main right now and I'm having a blast playing it) without any shops. It was easy af, even though I have scrolled most of it.

If you wanna get something, you get it done. If not, you keep whining.

The only things that are hard to find now are either clean or scrolled SCGs and FS, but it is not because the lack of the shops. The market is flooded with int gear, I couldn't even sell my int robes because nobody was buying before char creation.

The real issue though is DCing at cake. DC'd 4 times today at like 20% hp. This is bullshit. You also can't get a zhelm unless you have a GM mule to warp you and your party members each 30 seconds if not 10.

Dude you just come off so horribly by throwing all those numbers out. Like yeah, cool, you've been playing a long time. It's both unverifiable (due to late making of the forum account) and completely moot.

You're right though, a lot of people are waiting for shops, and a big part of the game is missing because of it, but people who can "afford" int equips are around and most if not all have no issues getting the equips if they want them. New players, shop or not, need to level up first and having no shops is doing little to impede that.

I'd agree with TopKek that the d/cs are priority - which is why they're being worked on currently as the highest priority now that character creation and everything else is in place. Merchants can wait because they'll not only take a couple of weeks to implement but there is an alternative - called forum usage, smegas, and trades.

Yeah I re read my first post - was definitely over the top. Those were just my assumptions on why we weren't seeing the usual 1k+ online. Dcing is obviously the #1 reason though, but I do feel that shops really add a lot of value. I don't even see anyone trading in Ch1 FM. Would all be done through the forums, and even then it's usually only for scrolled items.

There might be a lot of players online but it certainly feels very empty to me. No one really hangs out in the FM - I'm back on my bishop and finding it difficult to come across players to chat with ): I used to train, and then pop into the FM afterwards to chat and whatnot to everyone - I feel like that's missing right now and I don't know why, but I don't love it :'(

I have also felt that the FM isn't very lively. I may be completely wrong, but I believe the removal of the FM button has to play a part because I used to hop into the FM easily when getting bored of training. But now since that option isn't there, you'd have to travel to a town to go there and then end up having to walk back to your training spot which I feel is very tedious. This is just one player's perspective though and I'm aware others may feel differently.

I suggested a few months back that they add a FM to Southperry or something so the Islanders could socialize with the rest of the players, but put bars up so that islanders cannot trade, drop, pick up, etc, so there's no actual exchange of items or mesos (so theres no benefit other than the social aspect).

I feel there's a way to do this in a regular sense since a lot of people used the FM button to socialize like you suggested. Perhaps, there's a way to incorporate the button back in for purely a socializing aspect, applying the same barriers to trading, dropping, and picking up like I suggested with the Islander portal (which would be moot if this was applied). It's not true to the original maple, but it also does nothing to benefit anyone (or hurt anyone), so I don't see the harm, since one would still need to travel to town and use the actual portal to do trading.

To avoid confusion, perhaps people who come to the FM with the button get a temp badge that's applied to indicate those who used the button and those who didn't? I don't know. I feel like all the pieces are there, if they did something with it, the FM might be a bit more livelier outside of trading.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea at all ^
But overall, I feel like the removal of the FM button was absolutely unnecessary and a massive majority of the community opposed it. I don't see anything the change brings other than it making trading or more importantly, socializing, a big hassle now. But I feel this topic has been beaten to death so I'll stop here.

Seriously though. Why remove it?! *frustrated

Because people kept mules in the FM and they just FM'd to get buffs.
Because people didn't need to go to town anymore.

Like Boats, it wasnt the same when you could just transport to anywhere at a whim.
