Hi guys! I am Leroy, I joined the community 5 days ago. It feels like I found my second home, but I have a huge matter I would like to discuss that could have the potential to benefit this server even further.
Let us cut to the chase.
Earlier the other day, I found out that KSing could get you banned.
I read the rules myself, and sure enough, it was clearly written there.

But kill stealing should definitely not be a "bannable" offense...

Now before you say stuff like "Ksing is bm" or "How am I supposed to level with ksers", I beg you to read the rest of my argument..

First off, I am no fan of ksing, and I do not support any of those who seek to benefit themselves at the price of others. My friends and I have discussed this matter of ksing, and here are my main points.

    Point 1- Map selling

People exploit this "no ksing" rule with map selling. Now you may be thinking that these two are not related. But they are in fact, indirectly related. When a person is sitting alone in a map in gs2 after a long grind session and wants to log off, some people wish to make money off of leaving the map to someone else. They feel like since no one can legally take their map, they are entitled to its ownership. But seriously, maps are public and should be free for everyone. Since there is no ksing, a person in ghost ship 2 holds experience powers that others cannot obtain without forking over 10 mil.
I am not trying to scorn those who sell maps, but making Ksing illegal encourages many people to greedily attempt to sell maps for their own benefit.

    Point 2- Nostalgia

Back then in old gms days, there were undoubtedly a good number of ksers and people with bad manners. You know, those people who would respond to your "CC please!", with a curt **** you. But life is life. There will be haters. There will be people who aren't as respectful as you. I know that mapleroyals tries to enforce a strong community with loyal players that are respectful to one another, but lets not forget how powerful the factor of nostalgia can be in a v 62. private server. With hindsight though, the truth is that the experience is not the same with ksers. We should always expect obstacles in our paths to leveling up, and with no ksers, there are simply no obstacles. Leveling up is now simply a matter of how much time you have on your hands, rather than actively dealing with problems. Back in the day, when someone kses you, you had to have the proper connections (e.g. guild leader using genesis on whole map) to retaliate. This may not seem like a legitimate point to many people here, but for me it is huge.

Point 3- Sacrificing reputation for exp

What is a nostalgic private server without community? Nothing! So people who ks will damage their reputation (be it with smegas, etc) for the sake of experience. But who are we to decide their choice? In a close-knit community like this, a person who is bad-mannered will be definitely looked down upon. So in conclusion, you should allow these ksers to suffer their consequences by avoiding them in events such as zakum-runs, and other such things.

    Point 4- Responsibility

    This is a huge point.

Many people in this server crave the nostalgic feeling they had as kids playing this game. So, it is statistically obvious that the player base in this private server is more mature than it was back in the day. But still, I see many people crying out loud in megaphones or whatnot, that there are ksers on their map. This is partially fine with me, since KSing is currently against the rules. But seriously? Why can't we deal with our own problems? Let's face it: Most of us are young adults or adults. There is no reason to be begging for help to the GMs. The fact of the matter is that we cannot rely on this "no ksing rule" forever, and we certainly cannot expect it to babysit our way to higher levels. If a kser isn't being respectful, you should either fight back to make him cc, or you can just avoid him/her by ccing yourself. In essence, the "no ksing" rule really sucks a lot of responsibility rules that should be learned through firsthand experiences, rather than being forcefully taught through a single enforced rule.

I hope you understand that I am not directly supporting ksers to dominate all maps. I just like to approach concepts like "ksing" with a broad mindset. We should not legally "ban" ksing, the best we can do is discourage it. I think it is completely illogical to drop the ban hammer on someone who chooses to ks. We can't stop what people can do, whether its respectfully changing channels, or ksing to gain experience at the cost of others.

There are many cons to ksing, but let us not forget all the pros and benefits it ultimately can bring. ~f2

So what do you guys think?

Yeah haha... With this rule, as good as it may seem like, it really does limit my nostalgia... It is just too different!

    No.
KSing is the complete opposite of what the game actually encourages. Instead of KSing, find a party, do some quests, hang out with a friend.
KSing is harassment. I'm not talking about just walking in the map and killing a few things. I mean actually following them around, refusing to change channels, purposely killing the things they're killing. That's KSing, that's also harassment. It's also incredibly annoying and ruins your entire mood when you're just trying to have a bit of fun in a game.

I am one for this I liked the ks wars in maple even thow I always lost

This makes a huge point Sila but if that behavior is happening then the person can use ~gm and or report as harrasement on the forum in my opinion these bans with guys acting like "omg he killed 6 monsters on my map ban him" it gets ridiculous

I have never ksed or been banned once on this server and I've played since oct4
But I do believe that there has to be some give to this rule

You say this, but in your post you don't mention a single reason as to how allowing KSing will benefit the server.

GMS had thousands of players though. After the "KS war" was done the players who participated often forgot about each other. It would probably be different here. Do you really want someone who's stronger than you following you around to prevent you from training?

So i have this map for a few hours and a guy comes in and trys to steal it and ks's me, you think what i should be forced to do is "be an adult" and let him take my map and i should just cc?

Sorry to be so blunt but are you fucking stupid?

This will only cause more problems, lets say i leave the kser in my map and i cc, now i either have to ks someone else and start a fight with them or just not train at that map at all. How in the world do you think this is a good idea?

Also do you think the gm's are dumb? You think that just because someone comes in a kills and a few monsters and leaves they ban them? NO.
They ban the people that refuse to leave MULTIPLE times and start harrasing the player who owns the map. They dont ban without reason.

Honestly i think this rule will never change, the gms will always enforce it and take appropriate action when someone makes a report or ~gm's them.

Cant believe this is even a thread.

Ks'ing =/= nostalgia. That's laughable, being ks'ed is a form of harassment, which is ban-able.

Judging by the poll, it is clearly seen that majority of us here strongly object KSing to be allowed, and with valid reasons. I shall go through point by point- and show why this is not healthy for the server.
What you are saying is true to a certain extent- they do own the map. However, selling maps is frowned upon by many in Royals (10mil for GS2 pls). What I don't understand about those people is- why would they even sell the map? Why can't they just leave without paying any money? They are being blatantly greedy- but why? It's because of the fact that many people think that GS2 is the one and only training spot for level 5x-7x! These people take advantage of this wrong notion, this wrong thought- and sell the maps.
However, allowing KSing would also lead to multiple more problems. It completely outweighs the benefits, if there are any at all. Higher leveled people can easily come in at any given time and KS a lower leveled person in GS2. And this lower leveled person would be training in fear- fear that their map would be taken- fear that anyone, anywhere, will seize their map- fear that people would defame them for not following them, etc. Is this really healthy for the server? If anything, it negatively affects the server.
No, leveling is a matter of whether you are determined or not, and not whether a person has no obstacles. A person can easily level up faster in GS5 than say, a person who has a GS2 map. Using connections to deal with KS wars is undeniably bad for the server. People from different guilds will scorn at each other, and the tight-bound community will be separated, day by day. People will mark each other as enemies in this small community. Again, is this what you want? The nostalgic factor is not even a great excuse to justify KSing, which is morally and ethically wrong.
In order words, let me rephrase it. So KSing should be allowed, because the other party will eventually suffer? No! Both parties will suffer at the end, because the bond between them will break apart. Eventually, there would be a great divide between the community, as more and more people KS. This is wrong.
As I said earlier, this will further divide the server, which is completely unhealthy. Newer players who don't give a care about the server will KS incessantly, and when they are shun down, they just give a "fuck you." Sure, the people here are more mature than GMS- that is a given. However, should the less mature people be allowed to anger the server?
No pros. No benefits. No nothing. Only cons.

What I had hoped would be an open intelligent discussion, turned out to be a one-sided bias argument with brute agression pointed towards me, with no consideration with what I have said.. Relax guys, I'm not here to change the world! I am merely offering a possible benefit to the server, no need to point guns at me.

Of course no one likes a kser following them. But we live in a world filled with food chains, certainly you could call someone to chase them off.
I just feel like we need to develop our own responsibilities, instead of clinging onto the arms of GM's to enforce justice.

Now put down the guns aimed towards me, and feign your aggression for now.

I believe a huge point you guys are mislead by is the severity of my tone. I am not saying that ksing should be enforced. Think about this for a minute.

If ksing was not bannable, that does not mean that everyone would have the urge to ks and follow everyone around. People have ethics. The world will not be going down in flames. Only a few would allow their greedy nature to kill steal others. In otherwords, I am not saying that I am trying to create a rule where people must KS and destroy the attitudes of many.

I know many of you will continue to be bluntly-aggressive, but I just wanted to share my opinion.

Benefit? What? How is the person being KS'd having any benefits? If anything, you are the one being one-sided.

You really expect this to happen? If someone is KSing, harrassing, breaking any sort of rule knowingly do you expect them to stop when someone without authority tells them to? That doesn't work, believe me, I try it all the time. If they're unaware of the rules, sure, they'll most likely stop. But if they're away that they're being a dick nothing but GM intervention will help.

I'm a level 200 bishop. I can handle KSing. What I can't handle is people being assholes for no reason. And I"m pretty sure it's a GM's JOB to help the players.
