Depends on your goal, If you want to go HT run in the future, you need to wash it, up to at last you can tank HT's magic attack.

If you don't want to put in the work, then don't do it and enjoy the game as it's supposed to be enjoyed. At some point, you will eventually be able to do Horntail.
