Things you did when you first started maplestory

Back in 2007/2008, I struggled against snails outside Lith Harbor when I was level 7 with no str or dex. Planned to become a mage!

Then I remade into an assassin, became level 30-35, did almost all quest in Ludi, went down Eos Tower and then I was stuck in Omega Sector for like a month...

 

I'm feeling some of the pain you felt back then, that's horrible

 

Grinding at HHG1, sold those snow pieces during xmas 2009 on EMS for 1k per lol

 

F**king rascal snow pieces LOL. I remember that event so clearly. I grinded maple for a few weeks during that time and made my first couple mill from selling them. Good times.

 

Started before 3rd job was released in GMS with a magician, put pretty much every point into DEX.. then made a Warrior.
Which I played into the level 40's (Took me a while cause I remeber being level 40 in Ludi), had like 80 something DEX at level 40 and some points in HP as well (I dont hink I had the STR to wear the level 35 gloves lmao). Went training at Chronos, got a Esther Shield drop, so I decided to make a new magician.
Got to like level 17 with that magician and had a shitty laptop touchpad so I put 2 points into Energy Bolt.. so I remade it and played it until level 67ish and then switched to EMS when it was released.
EMS was awesome up until Big Bang (Big Bang was actually decent and pretty fun imo but the Chaos patch really ruined Maple for me).

 

My first time on maple island:

~12 year old me wanted to help some dude kill snails

I didn't know that changing your character's eyes to the "alert face" caused you to wink when you took damage. Every time someone with those eyes took damage around me, I thought they were winking at me. So I always started a conversation with them lol

 

I remember at 5th grade everyone started playing MapleStory so I joined too. I opened an account and then started "dating" a guy from my class and we decided to share the account (pls no ban). When we "broke up" [after like 2 weeks] he chanegd the password and hacked me and all the girls in class tried convincing him to give me the stuff and the password back till he finally wrote it on a note and gave it to my friend to pass to me.
Also my sister and I played together being completely noob ass for a few years (it took me like 4-5 years to pass lvl 50) and I remember I would go around asking people for mesos and items and then NPCing or selling them, until finally I had about 900k, and my sister gave me all of her mesos (which was around 100k) just so I can hit 1 mil for the first time.. That 1m felt so good !!

 

Oh and not forgetting the early days of 2005 or whatever and me not knowing Israel was a country and being so confused when people in the FM would spam "ISRAEL?????" at people. Though, doesn't top my idiot college roommate spelling Israel "Isreal" because of Ezreal from LoL (switching the E and A, pissed off our Israeli born Sociology prof).

Saving up all the money I made from getting my neighbors papers in the morning for them (Street --> house) and having to decide between my 5$ RS membership and buying some NX to get a cute bunny.

Getting stuck in Sleepywood and being too poor for potions.

Made my xbowman because no one else I played with would make a bowman and completely arbitrarily choosing xbow because some dude dropped a xbow and said "fuck this" and me being a poor as dirt player scrambling to grab anything anyone dropped/didn't pick up.

Hiding in the tree fort in Henesys and talking pretending the tree house was talking (Yeah I don't know).

Finally learning how to get up the rope in HHG1 and wasting all my potions to do so cause it was cool.

 

Raising STR on my mage so I can keep attacking slimes even when my MP ran out!

Also don't call the cops on me pls but there was a time when they released MapleStory guidebooks at like, Target and Borders and stuff. And they'd come with a NX coupon attached at the end of the book, so my brother and I would copy the coupon code without buying the book. Free NX without having to spend money yaaaaas (until Nexon caught on and started to plastic wrap all of their guidebooks lol)

 

My cousin introduced me to the game probably when i was in elementary school. Omg I remember I found a topaz ore in ant tunnel and I literally called him on the phone cuz I thought it was something super rare.

 

I would make sound effects when I killed snails.

I'm so excited to share my stupidity.

When I played for the very first time, I tried to equip some items but instead of double clicking I dragged them onto my char (like on the map) and some random person picked my items up (yes it took multiple for me to realise this wasn't working) and I yelled at the screen and I had no idea what to do. Took me a couple months before I attempted to play again. I also think I might have struggled to move, you'd think arrow keys were simple but let me tell you it was not.

I also thought I was being really clever training on snails until level 24 because in my little brain it was 'a little bit slower but a lot safer'.

And +1 for equal all stats and using chairs to heal HP and MP (although not because I was cheap but rather I didn't know what hotkeys were).

EDIT: There was also a time when I walked too far out of Henesys into Sleepy and died and couldn't get back because every time I tried I'd just die again and respawn at Sleepy. I cried at some random dude walking past for help, and he gave me a hene scroll (and I had no idea what those were) and I thanked him for it about a trillion times and genuinely thought he gave me the most precious item ever.

I also thought 100% scrolls were obviously the most expensive ones because they would never fail??? makes perfect sense.

And I'm not even going to talk about actual scrolling because I legit didn't know what it properly was until I joined Royals. Legit.

 

Drop traded a bunch of black crystal ores to myself. Or, rather, to the fellow who looted them. Fortunately, I was able to charm him into giving me half of them back. No, I didn't know about storage. I somehow managed to make a mule and drop trade everything to myself by logging in/out, on GMS, for a solid month before discovering the storage NPC by accident.

 

I used to chill around kerning city to scam people by saying: i can upgrade your weapon for free, then they traded me so i ran and sold it at pot shop. FeelzBadNow.
Note this was in 2006. I changed guys! I promise.
People were basically left with no weapon and not enough money (3k) to buy another garnier.

Didn't know how to pass the portals and stuck in the first map of maple island about 1 week.

 

don't know how to climb a ladder, pressed every key on keyboard to find out which key is climb

 

Lost a glowing whip (first and only in Windia at the time; worth more mesos than I could even fathom) to a hacker in a drop game lol.

Countless memories but that still irks me.

Also getting stuck in Orbis with no mesos to get back.
