I can also confirm that my 30k hero died multiple times at zak due to lag exactly as the OP described it , it tanks hits without the HP bar moving and once the lag is over it immediately dies . As for the idea , I also think it's should be rewarpable but only if it's server sided (mass DC etc) .
The major problem with rewarping players who have died is that they really have way to prove that they died due to the server lag and thus its down to the GM's own discretion case by case. This is due to there having been too many attempts to sidestep previous warp policies which led to harsher (and less concrete) rules. However, this still seems like a bad scenario to be in where the server is at fault in both versions but due to the roll of the dice, you dc or die and thus get warped or have to go through a process of GM discretion.
Issues like this should just not be happening at all. We believe some of the recent issues regarding instability seem to be due to memory and processor usage on the server. We are currently looking into ways to solve this. Probably the best solution, and one we are considering to implement, will be for us to split the game server over multiple different servers to allow more breathing room and have more than one single point of failure. For example if one server goes down it may just affect a handful of channels until the problem gets resolved, and not the entire game.
That sounds like a good idea , but I think that it would be fair that until this issue is fixed you should give the players the benefit of the doubt in cases like this , I know that this could be abused by fake reports here and there but the server runs smoothly most of the time and when there is a proof of server lag I don't see a reason why not to rewarp back . Myself and most of the players I believe understand the complicated situation the server is in right now and appriaciate the efforts to bring back the game we loved piece by piece but scenarios like this are as much frustrating as a DC .
I dont like the mentality of getting things handed to you. In the sense that it's not the staff's fault that there are connection issues. Taking POE as an example, you get absolutely nothing if you die in hardcore (Dying in hardcore you basically lose your character as a whole) due to a bug or connection issue, it's on you. I feel even if proved to die due to lag, you should never get a rewarp. I might even lean against rewarps of any kind but that might be an unpopular opinion around here. While the game can be unstable and maybe even more so since the new source until everything is worked out, or whether it's server issues they need to figure out, I have not DCed once since I got back a month ago. Granted I dont play everyday but I havent experienced any connection issues once Im actually loaded into the game(booting up the client is another story :^) ) tldr; game's easy enough as it is (hello multiclient leech yes pls, afk farming yes pls, free nx converting into billions yes pls) we shouldnt need GMs doing things for us ingame for any reason
