Things you did when you first started maplestory

A few years ago i introduced an old friend to maple, added to my guild and he played just like me.(in short, like an autist)
Soon he was a walking encyclopedia too, with nearly all quests completed and tons of characters. Strangely he would die pretty often though.
He came over to my place to play together to learn some boss or pq and then i found out the big news

HE NEVER FIGURED OUT YOU COULD SET POTIONS ON THE KEYBOARD AND HAD BEEN PLAYING WITH AN OPEN INVENTORY CLICKING POTIONS FOR MONTHS

As for my own things:
Obviously ruined 3 or 4 characters with ridiculous AP distribution, cause i wanted my character to be every class.

Walking around, killing snails, picking up their drops with quite some lag usually, suddenly some loot won't pick up.
I walk back and forth a bit and it picks up, must be some shitty collision testing then? I kept doing this, sometimes wiggling about on my loot for like 10 seconds before it finally picks up.
My friend who introduced me came over and saw me do this and is like "What. The fuck. Are you doing?" -"Well picking up my items obviously? This shitty hittesting is not letting me." -"That just means someone else hit that monster first and anyone else has to wait 20 seconds before they are allowed to loot" -" -__________________- "

Got IP banned from Global after a month of hard work getting to lvl 45 because EMS came out and i had a European IP address.

Using the scrolls you find on the gear you got: 15mp 2 dex 1int cape ftw

Not realising all storage NPCs and all FM portals are connected for like 2 months

Not realizing warriors need speed equipment. Not realizing it's inefficient to train on monsters that are 10 lvls above you and you miss 99% of the time.

Farming EMS events 24/7, farming leafs to sell and farming leaf potions during the giant tomato event and(as a guy who never had a mil) making enough money this way to start my DrPepper guild and max it out.

First walking around in my "rPepper" guild for a week because i didn't know the D for a logo was 5 mil.

Refusing all help and guidance because it was too much fun to figure everything out myself, and having a guild of likeminded people, trying Sharenian PQ for the first 4 times and all dieing because nobody noticed you could hit the crystals...

GuildPQing so much we got onto the ranking boards without ever having anyone able to kill Ergoth.

Getting my Zakum helm at lvl 120ish because buying a Zakum helm is basically cheating.(by my rules)

Smuggling tickets at LPQ because this wasn't cheating.(also by my rules)

Lending someone the 8 ilbis that took my years to gather and never getting them back cause the guy quit.

Doing Jumpquests for fun every day(and to make money selling the 10 ores reward). And later making mesos doing everyones Zakum JQ in 5 minutes as the word got around.

Acquiring dozens of accounts and passwords because people would pay me (mesos) to grind them up some levels.



Kinda went off topic on the nostalgia train there, but that's all good right?

Back when I first started playing during the beta, I had a level 67 F/P wiz. I had around 30 STR and 30 DEX, 70ish LUK and everything else in INT.

Had an islander in Scania at level 55, and another in Bellocan at level 65. I miss my Tomato Field. :[

Also had a "blood priest" at one points. Do not recommend.

Hahahaha, that's lovely. Reminds me of a common mistake by Dutchies in English class; the abbreviation C.V. means both resume and central heating. And many would write letters to potential employers stating they included their central heating :'D

 

Started the game as an archer, put my AP in all sorts of fucked up places, friend yelled at me, stopped and made warrior instead. Played that character until about level 45 with slash blast at level 8 LOL, friend yelled at me, ended up taking a hit to my axe booster duration later on to fix it (yes, axe sader! I was one of the few in early Windia). I also sold a 10% cape dex for 30k, thought I was rich. Friend yelled at me, found out they were worth like 300-500k at the time. There was also a point where I was level 29 with like 97% at evil eyes, ran out of potions, decided to try to just truck thru it and level up aaaaand I died.

Now for the good memories:

I used to stay up super late and sneak on the computer to run Ludi PQs, since the servers were less active then. I was an absolute PQ machine, had multiple active tracks and ran like 5 a night, all after 10pm. After that I spent a lot of time at brick golems. EXP was slow but I loved the map, ended up with a full stack of the etc drop from the mini boss there, I think I still have it on that character on real maple. I also had a refined aquamarine ore that I called my "lucky ore." I should still have that on real maple too.

When I hit 3rd job (took me about a year and a half) I put one point into roar because I wanted to be able to shake the screen. I would hide behind the treehouse and roar when people walked by, watching the noobs get confused.

My friend and I would have sleepovers and play in his mom's office into the deep hours of the night. He was the only person I knew irl who played, he got me into it and although this version is a little newer than the one we played during our "prime" we're actually playing royals together now! Funny how certain things never change.

Most of all, I miss the friends I made. Lost contact with all of them. Crazy how much of an impact those people made on my life. I wasn't really happy with most of the people I was hanging out with irl at the time, and my guild and friends on maple gave me an escape from that. I looked forward to ship rides because it gave me an excuse to just chill and talk to everyone. Most of my best memories from this game are experiences I shared with those people. If you're still out there Raianii, I miss you terribly

 

Make a female character so i can get free stuffs from real guys and funded my female thief : )

MS was my second online game, and my first was a Nexon arcade game named Crazy Arcade (Boom Online in my country). I was surprised to learn that most online games were different from that first game where I could play in 2-player mode with my 8yo sister on the same PC xD

Made a STR mage first because being strong is important for any type of fighters. Had zero idea how to trade - would always give the items AND the mesos to the buyers because I thought filling in numbers on my part was how I stated the price, then thought those buyers tricked me or something. Once I sold a pure water bottle to someone for 4k mesos, feeling so proud to have bought it in Sleepwood and made a profit, but actually lost it and 4k to him without even realizing It was until I lost ~70k mesos that I noticed the loss, rage quit and was too afraid to come back for half a year xD xD

I also followed a money-making guide and made a secondary character, traveled to Florina, set image quality to the lowest to see coconuts more easily and started hitting them for money LOL. Using chairs to recover too. Saved all that hard earned money for a trip to heaven, hunting for a yellow umbrella because it was the best weapon I could have for my LUKless mage. Got stuck with a bone helm, ragged cape, pan lid, bathrobe and snowshoes from lvl30-ish until the rest of my mage career because I was always too poor and never dare try trading again Was training at Omega Sector at lvl54 something before the game closed forever.

My friend also played it but in a different world, she was often made fun of by other players for being a bowman - supposedly the weakest class in the game And she didn't know about hotkeys until way over lvl30, had always attacked with the Skills box open to spam click

 

Getting catfished out of a few 100k and amoria dress. Amoria roleplay playing family was interesting... I think my favorite has to be when a more "pro" player would hang out in henesys and host little minigame or trivia events for free items.

 

I remembered making a thief and adding some STR to it. I trained from level 15 to 20 using a Lv15 Axe. Lolz
