This chair gachapon event is what Royals truly need. An very effective mesos sink, and the chairs are 100% cosmetic won't affect game play at all.

Players finally have a place to sink mesos back to the system and increase the mesos buying power, but this needs time to balance not something can be fixed with a short term sink.

IMO we should keep this until there is another mesos sink system implemented other wise the mesos value will continue to lose buying power.

It won't effect game play but it will effect economy. This release has already screwed many chair collectors over which is quite sad. It's almost the same as putting CS/WS as an NPC because that would also just slowly flood the economy with better attack and perfected gear while it being a meso sink itself. This would become less and less effective as the chair prices slowly stabilize and the worth of the 25 mil balances. The problem I still see with the current economy is that even though this is undoubtably a great meso sink and is economically sound, the RATE of inflation is still the same. That means that in a month, the meso worth would shoot straight back up because it is just as easy to farm mesos. What we really need is a way to SLOW DOWN inflation instead because it has gone so high.

Once again just my thoughts :p

Seems like it'll take at least 30b+ to collect all the chairs from the chair gachapon, so it's definitely a viable long-term meso sink.

The majority of chairs are also untradeable, so chair collectors won't be able to buy duplicates off others.

I agree with Buccaneer, it fucked over so many chair collectors and has damaged the chair economy branch severly, it would take months to recover and for chairs to once again become a rare item. sure, it's a mesos sink alright, but not a good one IMO

Yes it screws up the chair economy, but your ws/cs NPC and perfect weapon example has a major flaw. You can't kill bosses faster with rare chair being more common and people won't reach end game faster/easier. Chairs are purely cosmetic not impacting game play.

Chair gachapon will do the opposite of ws/cs npc. It will slow down the rate people reach end game because it sinks a great deal of mesos going towards weapon to something purely cosmetic.

Last time I checked, you can't kill bosses faster with chairs.

What you may consider endgame may not be what others consider endgame. Sure many consider 60-70+ total gear attack endgame, but I know people who would rather collect chairs than get the best gear. On a personal level, I had a small side collection of rare chairs (instead of putting my assets into better gear) and just to see my efforts to put money in the chairs go down to complete waste is quite discouraging.

Let me follow the logic a little here.
If to many people collecting all the chairs is "end game" for them, then having chairs available in cash shop that can only be purchase with donor's RP considered pay 2 win. Since you can't collect them reach "end game" without paying real money.

Free voting NX and donor's RP are considered purely cosmetic. Cosmetic does not add to your DPS. Having chair gach is purely cosmetic, does not contribute to your damage output, therefore it's not pay 2 win nor it will help you reach end game faster.

OverReact is right though. Yes, some have billions into chairs, it is no where near like making ws/cs on demand available from an NPC. Chairs do nothing to your character, and from a purely investing side, there's no such thing as a "sure-thing", and I don't see why this should be any different.

On the bright side, I've yet to see some of the really rare chairs pop out of the gach, and trust me, you guys (being the server) have sunk a ton of mesos into it already. I think the very rare chairs, if they're even available from the gach (I dont even know) are going to hold onto their value. People are also forgetting, if you spend billions to get a good chair, you spent billions to get a good chair. And that's going to be reflected in the price people try to sell them at.

If retaining personal asset is the #1 priority in this community, then we should stay exactly where we are not moving forward. People who stock piled apples and HT books will wish APQ and HT will never be fixed because once it's available they lose a lot of value in their personal asset.

IMO, we should look out for what's best for the overall community. If chair gach works, then keep it. Just my $0.02.

I believe that if chair gachapon is a permanent feature, not many players will be willing to do it. Players who are doing chair gachapon now are because they want to get a chair that they want or a chair that is tradeable so that they can sell it, at a higher price, after chair gachapon has been removed. Making it permanent wouldn't attract more players to spend as they can just buy the chair that they want from other players. Furthermore, these "rare chairs" will just lose their rarity. Hence, less meso sink and players who owns them wouldn't feel special anymore. If it wasn't made for a limited time, do you still think that there will be a 45b mesos sink, 4hrs after it has been implemented? Besides, I don't think that this should be a feedback to the GMs since they have all the numbers for them to analyse but we don't.

IMO that's assuming they won't add new chairs into the gach. If they add new chairs into it on a regular basis, I bet people will start sinking mesos into it. You're right if they keep the chair selection the same without adding new ones.

They can also consider rotating a selection of chairs one period at a time, so it will spike people's interest over time.

I would have liked an reimbursement for the rare chairs since it was going to drop in value. I reminds me of the old source BVM that everyone had and those people got reimbursed with the equivalent of a taru totem. I'm not sure if those who are for this event chair never had rare chairs, but I can speak for myself and those who had rare chairs have pretty much lost 5-50 bil from this event which is pretty hefty. I won't deny that this is a very smart way to decrease mesos in the economy but it feels like the event creator just stuck a middle finger at those who had rare chairs.

Then everyone who bought HT books and apples will need reimbursement too then...

Edit: everyone who bought HT books and apples in new source.

Your chair is still there and as chair-y as it always was. BVM completely changed categories in use for crafting. It's a tad different.

edit: again, I haven't seen a PB chair come out of the gach yet, so your chair hasn't lost any value. Other's maybe not, other chairs, maybe not, but it's been 2 days (we still don't know how this will affect long term, there's no guarentee it's going to be bad, is my point).

I really don't think you should compare a permanent item like chair with a consumable item like WS/CS/Apple. And I just realized WS doesn't effect end-game at all. Real end-game item are created by CS not WS. You can't make 20 att PGC even you have 100 WS.

Anyway, I totally agree with your idea that this is a good meso sink way and should make it permanent. As most people believe this is working, maybe anyone can predict when this will be reflected on the economy? When the WS price and AP price can back to normal (old source price)? After all, brings price back to normal is the whole point, isn't it?

I don't really have an opinion on whether chair gachapon should be permanent or not, but you're comparing apples to oranges (literally, heh) with that analogy.

No one expected rare chair gachapons to become a thing when they spent tons of mesos to purchase the chairs that they did. People who stockpiled HT or APQ items did so with the expectation that these features would be returned eventually, but are seeking to make a profit while supplies are still low.

No one knew HT and APQ will be down for 10 months after new source. So what you said about people who stockpiled HT or APQ items doesn't make sense.
The point of analogy was supply and demand. Rare chair had no way of obtain it so the price sky rocketed. HT book and Apples is the same way now. No way to obtain apples and HT books now so the price sky rocketed. I don't see how that's apple to orange.

I agree with many others. I love the idea of a Chair Gacha however certain chairs should not be in this thing. I had one of the rarest chairs in the game and now i see 4 new people with the same chair. This makes us chair collectors sad as we no longer have something special in our collections. At the very least if the chairs must be in the gach make them Un-Tradeable. This is a giant middle finger to the collectors.

As someone who lost about 10 bil overnight from asset depreciation, I have to take this opportunity to express my angst, share some perspective, and offer kernels of feedback that can hopefully guide better decisions in the future.

This Chair Gachapon feels like an utilitarian approach where the end (meso sink for the economy) is used to justify the means (asset depreciation for the entire segment of chair collecting hobbyists). It's ruthless in the sense that no one could've seen it coming; the stakeholders who had everything to lose were completely blindsided. Even though the chair market has historically been volatile, there was enough confidence in valuations to inspire people to collect chairs and pay top mesoes for them. This evaporated in a matter of hours.

If I had to draw a real life parallel, it's like being a hypebeast and dedicating a sizeable chunk of your youth building a wardrobe of Supreme, Bape, Off-White, Gucci, or whatever brand that you fuck with. This involves camping new releases, scouring the secondary market, sometimes travelling to places you wouldn't normally go, and always sacrificing other aspects of your life so you can allocate that portion of your income. All that effort, then you wake up one morning and find most of your hype stuff is now available at the local Marshalls for $19.99. Or even if you dress normally and just happen to be gifted a limited release Supreme tee, you probably still find it demoralizing to see that item crash in both value and significance overnight.

Yes, you can argue this whole notion of exclusivity is incredibly vain, elitist, and even a thinly veiled excuse to flex on people—to which I'm inclined to agree. But it's also a pursuit that helped rationalize the daily grind, define an overarching experience, and pave new paths of fulfillment.

I disagree with the argument that "chairs are cosmetic, therefore it's okay to devalue them as people should focus on gear anyways." As @Buccaneer has pointed out, people play this game for different reasons. Some want to own the strongest gear and slay bosses all the time, others may prefer to socialize, collect chairs, and have characters that look unique. A lot of players probably fall somewhere in between that spectrum. It's almost a microcosm of real life: not everyone wants to make boatloads of money or reach the highest echelons of society—some just want to live modestly and look dapper.

This is why the Chair Gachapon will have glaring adverse effects, especially if made permanent or kept long-term. It oversaturates a delicate market. It trivializes the chair-collecting journey. It erodes the net worth of all those who invested their time and effort into a cosmetic item rather than an equip. It normalizes character appearances and makes it patently more difficult to have a character setup that looks unique. It makes us rethink whether aesthetics can hold any value ever again.

If this Chair Gachapon had to be executed for the greater good, I think most would've preferred some notice ahead of time so they have an opportunity to liquidate their chairs, even if at a fraction of the original value. I can understand why Staff chose the element of surprise, but like I mentioned earlier it was incredibly harsh and borderline inconsiderate on the players that had a stake in this. We could've also imposed a stronger limit on supply by making the Gachapon once a day, and at a more noticeable cost of 150 to 250 mil. It likely would've achieved a similar meso-sinking effect considering that people pay 150 and up for event chairs that can be obtained in mass, so a sure chance at a previously GM-event-exclusive chair is still tantalizing. We could've also built a weekly rotation of chairs to motivate players to come back, which would've allowed for a more limited selection and for more chairs to retain their historic value. Ultimately, I hope this Chair Gachapon is "time-limited" as advertised and gets discontinued before you see the same chairs everywhere you go and from every player you meet.

I'm not sold on the NPC that sells WS/CS idea but surely we could do something else to slow inflation, like revisiting the NPC values of items that drop from popular leech spots, or introduce new sinks like the AP reset merchant that others have suggested.
