Dummy Scrolling

I treat dummy scrolling like a religion. You either believe it or you don't. Dummy scrolling will always exist whether people can prove or disprove it.

Edit2: Edit1: I guess what I'm trying to say is there is no need for a heated argument. People who believe in it will likely always do it, and vice versa. No need to convince other people what your belief is. Try the dummy scrolling yourself (or don't) and you can determine if you believe it or not.

Kinda like there is no DNA test back then to prove Joseph is (or not) Jesus' biological father, and Christianity survived for two thousand years now. You can choose to believe in it or don't.

 

Rng from programming are pseudorandom and not perfectly random, so dummy scrolling is like trying to guess on the algorithm pattern.

 

Why was this topic even revived?

But as I recall from my DotA 2 days there are multiple versions of randomness you can code into your games.

There is rng,pseudo rng, and other things not covered in the dota reddit. They all slightly alter how your success rate is calculated and each have different implications for proccing successes.

 

This thread is so painfully frustrating.

Another topic fired up the dummy scrolling debate again. A link pointed to this thread. Since that threads topic isn't really about dummy scrolling (well...Simulated scrolling), so I thought it'd more appropriate to reply it here.

I just realised why it's called "dummy scrolling". It's because only dummies follow this practice

 

Can confirm it doesn't work, failed 30x 10% in a row with ws on one slot of a weapon game is rigged

 

I'm not saying dummy scrolling can predict outcome accurately. In fact if it is easily predictable, then the pseudorandom code did a terrible job.

But if you trust rng is perfectly random, then you must have believe that F=ma works 100% of the time.

 

Is the premise of pseudorandom code that the system collect a large/all samples of scrolling data and make sure it doesn't drift from the targeted chance of successes?

In other words the pass/fail of each scroll are not mutually exclusive from each other.

Let's assume that is true for the sake of argument, how do you guarantee you are the only person in the server scrolling at this time? Let's say you failed 20 Scrolls in a row dummy scrolling, and another person else where passed 20 Scrolls in a row, that means the "pattern" that you're looking for is defeated by other people who are also scrolling at the same time.

Unless of course there is some kind of coding to not monitor other people's scrolling result at the same time, and the series of pass/fail scrolling results from dummy Scroll is locked in into a IGN of the character, a channel, or a map/location.

I think there is no such code in the current coding.

Or maybe dummy scroll work if and only if you can ensure you're the only person in the server that is scrolling at the time. If not, then pseudo or true random doesn't make any difference because there is no way to guarantee that you are the only person burning dummy scrolls. From end users' perspective, it's random and you can't burn failing Scrolls to increase chance of passing Scrolls.

I don't get how this came into the discussion. Is there someone who believes force doesn't always equal mass times acceleration?

 

I don't believe it entirely. Cuz Force(net) is actually equivalent to the rare of change of momentum. Fnet = d(mv)/dt. Which means that if the mass changes wrt time while the velocity remains constant, there is still a Fnet. F=ma assumes acceleration is constant (velocity changes).

To keep this post on topic, I went to ask my statistics tutor about the idea of dummy scrolling. According to him, dummy scrolling does not work. BUT someone like me who still believe in dummy scrolling, it acts as an assurance to the next few scrolls passing. It also somewhat adds flavour to scrolling for me.
