There has been a lot of discussion regarding the state of scamming in MapleRoyals for a long time now. Back when the Report Abuse section was visible to the public, scamming reports were mostly rejected (even when provided with abundant evidence) with the response that the victim "should've just been more careful to avoid being scammed." But I honestly simply cannot understand this logic. Because regardless of whether the victim was careful or not, that's completely irrelevant to the fact that the scammer intentionally perpetrated a malicious action towards another player. This is a classic act of victim blaming that I'm honestly shocked is tolerated by the Staff in this server, considering how stringent they generally are about playerbase behavior. I have a hunch that most of the community members would support the addition of scamming to the T&C, and so would love to hear what the Staff think about this issue.
For what it is worth, the staff has been discussing the issue. Where it will lead to... well no one knows. But, it's something we're aware of. <3
It would def help those running zakum and having people steal Gen20 and other higher priced drops, as well as get these predatory scammers out of the FM/SMegas.
I will mention that I can understand why the Staff would be hesitant in establishing specific rules against scamming, as defining the act of scamming in and of itself can get incredibly vague and messy. And especially considering how disgustingly petty much of the playerbase can get at times, I can't help but imagine the added nightmare that this would ensue for the Report Abuse section. That being said, justice ain't come easy!
+1 Edit: Yea totally agree. Its absurd that it's so often just pushed on as the "victims fault" here as if the actual scammer/thief with ill intent is justified in their action because someone made a mistake. Sure the victim could have been more careful, but why not question the human trash that takes advantage of a person's trust instead?
Like what Evan said. But it'll take some time, because the clause of Scamming is particularly...troublesome (because we have to think of all possible exploits against the clause).
first server ever that does not include scamming in tncs. who came up with that idea anyway it's a joke lel and then there are some people who get banned and threatened for scamming by GM's even tho its not against the rules???? so either allow it completely or make it against the tncs thx. I wud like to try make easy moneyz by scamming on a mule account.
you sure do know how to to take things out of context juz givin an example on how easy it is to scam without getting ruining your rep
+1 million to this It's difficult to enforce, but having the rule there and enforcement as a threat is more important. People will stop doing it if they actually have a ban threat over their head.
We're working on updating the T&C to include a section on scamming. But it'll take awhile as it'll require more vigorous vetting as there are many loopholes in the context of scamming.
I'm a mixed between the two. Scamming sucks yes, but its also your own fault if you get scammed. You, out of your own freewill decided to buy or sell an item at a certain price. No one held you at gunpoint to do anything, no one hacked you, etc... You made the decision, on your own. It could also serve as a lesson to pay closer attention to it in the future.
Yup, I agree with this 101%. Players should also pay close attention to the items they're buying, and don't believe so much in "whoever buys it first is the winner!" crap. Other than that, things like leech scam are unavoidable (although it technically can be avoided by looking at the community blacklist which I doubt people will even use).
based on ur opinion, shouldnt it be the drops rewarded after u went out from zakum's altar? It shouldnt be splitting out the whole map anymore.. erm.. i guess even the real server dont give a shit.. It should be a drops shared by ffa (Free for all) in nature.
Spoiler I'd like to re-emphasize that this has nothing to do with people who get scammed, and everything to do with people who actively scam others.
It has everything to do with people who get scammed since it it those people that want scammers to get banned. I've been scammed before (Not in Royals, but back in GMS), and since then I've always paid attention to what I'm buying/selling. Rules should be set to protect those who force themselves onto others (Ex: Hackers), not to act as a parent that tells you everything will be fine when you make a mistake. The intention doesn't matter, you have to look at the facts. Did something bad happen? Yes. Was it your own fault? Yes. (If no, then for sure, set rules to prevent it). Learn from it and move on. At least that's how I feel about it.
okay but what about big trade scams that require more then one trade to complete transaction? so it's your fault for trusting them that they wont scam you?
Such as? When I think of big trades I think of items over max meso, and in that case, people use WS/CS. Those can stack up to 100 in 1 slot and you got 9 slots in the trade window. Pretty sure there's no item in the game that costs more than 900 ws/cs. Saying a big trade that requires more than one transaction makes no sense to me, unless you can give me an example. Oh, and talking about trust... The older you get, the more you know you can't trust anyone but yourself, unless you can afford the loss/be tricked or got a plan B. Always assume the worse.
