Hello everyone! I'm trying to figure out what the most efficient way to spend my money would be in terms of gearing my DrK in training. I currently have roughly 5B mesos to spend. Current Equips: Hat: Zhelm (15/16/17/14) clean Face: Rudolph's Shiny Nose (5/5/5/5) clean 3 slot Eye: Nothing so far Earring: Single Earring (10 dex) Top: Nothing so far Bottom: Nothing so far Overall: Bathrobe for Men (10 dex) Pendant: Silver Deputy Star (5/5/5/5) clean Cape: Pink Gaia Cape (4 attack) clean Gloves: Work Gloves (11 attack) Shoes: Facestompers (2 attack) clean Weapon: Currently level 76 w/ Maple Karstan (95 attack), should I get Hellslayer? I'm already on route for HP washing with 20 base int and 50 int after equips per level (started with 20 int as soon as possible after character creation, got equips a little later) Sorry if this is too much to ask, I just want someone else's ideas on how they would gear up with the money available. Preferably from an experienced Dark Knight or Player. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read/analyze this.
Don't worry about upgrading your Polearm. Use the one you have until into fourth job when you start bossing - Spears vastly outdamage Polearms when you factor in Berserk, and even become the better grinding option as well once you can efficiently keep yourself in Berserk range and still fight monsters. Eye equips can be fairly expensive to get stats from, and your only option other than attending a Castellan Toad run, whether it be as an attacker or HB user for loot, is DEX, which is not worth the investment. You may want to consider picking up a clean Raccoon Mask and scrolling it for Accuracy, however. A decent top/bottom set for around 40 stat (25+ STR and at least 15 DEX with some accuracy on both) shouldn't run you a significant portion of the 5b you have saved up. From there, use the leftover to buy yourself a good Sky Ski - whatever you can afford at this point, dump it into your weapon. Don't worry about scrolling your cape or shoes quite yet. If you have any money left over after that, you should use the rest to wash out to 18750 HP. Once you're there, begin saving for a better cape/glove/shoe - the cheapest and most readily available option for you should be to pick up a 15atk glove. From there, you should think about upgrading cape and shoe to something in the range of 8-10atk each. Capes are much cheaper than shoes because they start with higher base attack, so get the cape out of the way first. Leave your face equip as it is and keep using that Deputy Star until Horntail is released - some people like going after chaosed Silver Deputy Stars but those are going to plummet in value when Horntail Pendants become readily available again. In list format; 1) ignore pendant, earring and face - neither are worth upgrading for you at this time, though getting an HTP and Egg when Horntail is re-released will become priority 2) buy yourself a decent top/bottom set that combine for at least 40 stat (preferably 25 or more STR and 15 or more DEX, with some accuracy on both) 3) buy yourself any Raccoon Mask and scroll it for accuracy - scrolls are worth basically nothing, so it's just the cost of the mask clean 4) blow all of your current money on the best Sky Ski you can afford, this is the majority of your improvement 5) use any money you get as you level up to complete your HP washing to 18750 6) consider training at places that drop Helmet for DEX 60s or otherwise buying Helmet for Accuracy 60s/70s/30s, and reloot Zakum Helmets with friends to scroll 7) when all the above are done, save up to upgrade your glove to a 15atk 8) when all the glove is done, begin saving money for a cape/shoe upgrade up to 8-10atk each, doing cape first then shoe 9) ??? 10) profit The absolute first "real" investment you spend on after completing the above list is a perfect Sky Ski, or Dragon Faltizan if you like big numbers over actually doing reasonable dps. When you have the above, save money for either purchasing your own clean perfect weapon and then White Scroll as you go, or go the cheaper but delayed option of saving up billions of meso and purchasing one outright. You shouldn't need any more than about 8b to complete the list above - this purchase should be in the mid-20b range or upwards to purchase, or can cost even more if you choose to scroll yourself. The perfect weapon is the biggest step you make towards reaching end-game, though, and is absolutely what should be your first goal after completing a basic set like I've described. Source; I've played for a while. Happy grinding and good luck, friend - you seem to have a good head on your shoulders, so I believe you'll do well. If you can find me in-game on one of my many characters, feel free to ask whatever questions you might have there as well.
Thank you so much for such a detailed reply! You gave exactly the type of answer I was looking for. I really appreciate you taking the time to write this (it reads well and looks very thought out)!
I don’t usually write long posts but I decided I’d make an exception for a fellow Warrior in need. xd
While it's true that Spears outdamage Polearms, I do not fully agree with this recommendation. I don't know what your current level is, but if it's a around 90 ( I assume that because you were talking about a Hellslayer, or maybe you are around 77 and talking about a Pyrope Hellslayer) I would consider getting a good Purple Surfboard. They are fairly cheap and will drastically increase your DPS in your 3rd job training. You can do Himes all the way to 120 if you want, and Purple Surfboard will shine over any spear here. This is of course only yo help you reach 120 faster. At some point, you will use mostly Spear, and at that point I fully agree with @Michael. You should get yourself a really nice Sky Ski (or Pyrope Spear - but they are more expensive) I would also like to add that a very cheap upgrade you can make (actually you will even profit from it) is to change your 11 ATT WG for an 11 ATT 10 STR one. You will actually get more money from your 11 ATT glove, that it costs to buy the 10 STR 11 ATT one, leaving you with more left for improved gear.
