every patch i've downloaded has had the "Maptosteal" thingy in it. the a/v is use is microsoft security essentials and it quarantines the file once every week. it can be annoying but i dont think you can do much about it.

Just uninstall your virus scanner and never look back. The file is considered a virus because it has been tampered with and edited. Trojans are only dangerous if they are encrypted with malicious information in them. The reason they are Trojans is because they are files that contain data and is the most convenient and commonly used by hackers to transfer malicious data from one person to another. Make an exception for the installer in Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes (if you have it or a similar program).

To summarize the paragraph above, UNINSTALL YOUR VIRUS SCANNER and never get one ever again. They only detect things in your computer once you've already been infected, they don't prevent infections.

    Well thanks for the reply,
as I said, I allready made this exception, and my point about this thread was,

That the MapleRoyals Client which I first downloaded, was NOT recognized as an virus !

I'll just wanted to know if they changed something in the client which had may caused that its now seen as a virus by my scanner ...

Did you try the latest one which is on the downloads page? Not in the setup file?

This is, quite possibly, the worst advice ever.

Actually, it's the complete opposite. You obviously have no idea how useless a virus scanner is. I haven't used one in over 15 years and every computer I've ever owned/used have been totally virus free.

Also, again, just remove your anti-virus, your computer will still remain safe as long as you have Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes or other similar programs protecting your computer. The only way you can truly protect your computer is by being smart about what and where you download from. You obviously know MapleRoyals is safe even though your scanner is telling you it isn't, so remove it?

    [edit]

Anyone having problems with their anti-virus deleting files, just download from another source, here are alternative links to the download. One of them (I forget which) is the entire setup in it's extracted form which means no files have been accidentally/on purpose removed by virus scanners during the installation. This way you can download, unzip and place the folder wherever you want and start playing.

    Actually, you're wrong completely.
Most virus scanners do not actually work as advertised, slow down most computers, are quite annoying, and offer little to no protection whatsoever. Personally, I've never had virus protection, recently ran some tests on my computer after about two years use with no protection, I came up on about 4-5 different virus scanners such as Hitman Pro and Malware bytes as 100% clean. I would like to mention I use my computer daily, download torrents frequently, and I never scan any files prior or after downloads. If you have mediocre understanding as to what will harm your computer, you'll be fine. It's easy to identify spyware, malware, trojans, etc. Just by how the files act, or how they are advertised. Worst comes to worst, you can just Google, "Is this file safe?" If you can't handle this, just step away from the computer, and toss it out the window. -The IT community. :8):

It could be possible that an older client worked it's way into the setup, I'm not sure. But let me know the results please.

It was actually the best advice ever. But it was flawed because it did not include teaching the person how to protect him/her-self from malware.

    > Doesn't use an virus scanner
    > Doesn't get viruses
From my experience, virus scanners are basically pointless, I run malwarebytes once a month and more often than not have 0. But that isn't what this thread is about. Honestly though, delete your virus scanner and do some research on how to protect yourself instead of relying on shoddy programs.
