As the title states, this is something im actually looking forward to as it will make the game both more nostalgic (in the sense of people actually wanting to use it & potentially socialize) I feel that Boat Rides themselfes are a great addition to an already great game, however in a private server like this, where (let's face it) the custom content is what made it thrive in the first place. (FM Button, BossHP, etc.), the idea of keeping the boat rides but with an 'increased spawn/arrival time' of the trains-boats-planes-whichever will make me personally and i think alot of other people aswell, feel more happy about actually using them. The rides themselfes arent that bad at all, and imo i would happily use it for nostalgia's-sake on a daily basis! But i think the LONG spawn/arrival times of said rides is what puts people off the most, hopefully we can see an increase in this and have it be an improvement. Feel free to comment how you feel and i would love some GM Feedback.
I think no one is using it is simply because Spoiler . I tried the subway from Kerning to NLC once, and I must say that it was a total waste of time to wait for the departure. Never have I waited since then, unless I gotta afk to poop or something. I can't think of any other way to further improve the entire boat/subway rides than making them instant, which teleport rocks can do.
I don't think anything should be changed about them. When I'm going somewhere, I take the boat/train/whatever if I'm gonna afk for a bit or am in no rush. If I have to get somewhere quick, I simply buy a VIP tele rock, where I have all the useful maps saved in already.
Like u mention urself, the waiting for arrival&departure is the bad part, not the ride itself. Which is exactly the point i'm trying to make.
Nope, the ride itself is also the same as waiting for the departure. No difference other than a total waste of time. If I want to socialize, I do that in PQ or FM.
Honestly it's just a meso sink. The fact that you can buy fast passes throws the whole point of nostalgia out the window as to making it "mandatory". I do however think it's too much of a meso sink since some people have to buy it on multiple characters to get things done efficiently. Personally having to spend that much mesos and also individually for each character really annoys me as I am not willing to wait for a 20 minute boat ride when sometimes I only have time to play for 2 hours
Make the boat last 1minute for everyone on it. This way people who just want to play the actual game can ride boats alone efficiently and large groups can blow time together with some forced interaction. There’s your compromise!

I personally adore boat rides. Boat rides offer me a solitary shelter from the world and provide me time to reflect on my life like a Buddhist monk if you will, or like Luke Skywalker in the new Star Wars trilogy. Residing alone in the dark cabin helps remind me that I'm addicted to a game far past it's prime, and that I need to get my life together and let the past die. Additionally, during the boat ride, I have enough time to run out of my mom's basement because my chicken flavor instant ramen is ready and boiling over. Taste like sadness. /s
