Hi, recently just gotten my Christmas medal thanks to @Andreas , was just wondering if it is possible to make it perm, the stats are not that overpowered and also it looks reall nice! Also makes more variety to medals in the game, since everyone has the same medals ( almost ) Feel free to post your opinion!
Agreed no reason to make anything limited to time. When you work towards something and then have it stripped away there is no sense of accomplishment.
DISCLAIMER: This respond is MY feedback as a player, and is NOT an official staff respond. I agree, and having an expiry is the one and only reason why I'm not really bothered having the medal at all. I mean, it'd be tiring to farm 10,000 stars and snows on my legit which is a NL, as compared to someone who mains a Bishop or A/M. Sure, you can say "Kill on your Bishop, and loot on your NL!" - heck, this is even more tiring. All in all, I would like to keep something forever if I had to work that hard for it.
60 days is definitely way too short. If the admins decide not to make the medal permanent, at the very least, the medal should last one full year. And then when the event comes back the following year, you have to do it all over again. In that case, that would sound like an okish compromise.
The work required to get this medal compared to others of a similar stat is quite minimal. Most players that are actively playing during this event will likely find themselves completing most of the requirements anyway, without really thinking about it. The only part that may require some extra work is doing the Chrismas PQ's for it, which again isn't very difficult. And because of that, I believe the stats on the medal are sufficient, even though it does expire. It would definitely be overpowered if it were permanent, and would likely push us in the direction of medal power creep. Some medals that are just as good and are permanent include the Quest Specialist Medal, Saint Exorcist Medal (quest to be fixed), and the PQ Mania Medal (quest to be fixed). All of those require a lot more effort to obtain and it would be a shame to make them obsolete any time soon. Medals are also supposed to be more of a trophy piece that are collected after doing certain tasks, and then remain in your medal collection forever, this is why a large majority of medals with better stats than this normally expire or reset each month, for example; Donator King medals, Horntail Slayer medal and the Legendary Hunter medal. Also as Kai has pointed out, if this medal was very good and permanent, it would almost force players with multiple characters to spend a lot of time on the event doing this on multiple characters within the time limit. And I feel there is enough of that going on already in events, but of course that is the player's choice in the end. A further reason is that since the medal is always publicly displayed, I don't think we want to see everyone using a Christmas medal all year round! So to conclude, some reasons why people may still want to get it could be: - For medal collecting, since the medal will stay in your medal collection tab forever, and you can show off to other players that you obtained the medal. - For the stats, since it is slightly better than most medals that are easily obtainable. - For fun, since if you take part in most of the Christmas events you'll probably get pretty close to obtaining the medal anyway. We will be fixing more of the currently bugged medal quests soon, including the monthly reset or temporary ones, which should help provide a larger variety of medals to be worn in the game.
m8 it is a 3+ all stats medal, not some sort of "lucky guy" 5+ all 5 attk medal i don't think it really does an awful lot to have a perm medal that has +2 all stats more than the lvl 70 one. why didnt the rings and other items from events also get time-limited (like the shiny nose and snow fur lump, which requires less effort than the medal)?
Because like I said in my post it would make medals that require a lot more work with similar stats to become obsolete, and would be publicly visible under your character all year round. Both of these are not issues when it comes to rings.
We would need to do a patch to add another medal with zero stats, as well as make modifications to the quest. I also feel it would be unfair to substantially change the reward after the event has already been running for a week. There's also no possibility of 'NX' medals which cover up other medals. But, again, I would prefer players not to be running around with the Christmas medal during summer. We will continue to make beautiful custom medals like this one that players can obtain throughout the year. And remember, the medal will always stay in your medal collection after you have obtained it.
