Stop and consider how stable the server has been. If your answer is the "server is unstable", then don't host an event. Also consider the quality of your event. If your answer is "My event is absolutely whack and it's not creative". Then don't host the event. Instead think of new creative events that you think everyone will enjoy. Not some crummy jump quest, quiz, q&a, or any event that has been done by someone else. Thanks and god bless.
Be grateful that they even decide to do events, it's fun and breaks up grinding for hours. The server has been stable all day, just recently in the past 30 mins has it begun to lag. It was just bad timing.
If this is aimed at GMs, I am extremely offended and consider this post very rude. Maybe we should just not hold any events at all if you feel that the staff can only do "crummy events"
Lol threads like this are what exactly demoralises people who try hard to make the lives of the player base better. You are not giving constructive criticism, you are merely being all ballistic and unreasonable. It's supposed to go into the feedback section anyway but this is not even worthy of being considered feedback.
If you don't like the event we host, why not give constructive feedback and suggest different events we haven't tried before? Edit: Moved thread. Also my question goes for everyone who'd like to see new events. Give us suggestions with hashed out rules and we'll consider them.
100% strictly towards GM's. It's not criticism, it's common sense. It's like kool aid with no sugar. You just don't do it. The purpose of this post, while rather vulgar and to the point, was to point out that you shouldn't create lag when there is already an abundance of that going around. We know events create this cause lag so to compensate for such a crappy environment the event needs to compensate by being very fun and not something normal or not creative. I personally would be more than happy to never see an event held again. Not because I hate events, but the events that are created are dull. I normally wouldn't care if events were hosted, but because the server is in such dire straights when it comes to stability and because things that used to work "cpq" don't work and you choose to create a additional problem instead of fixing the problem, well, it's self explanatory. TLR If there's lag, just don't host an event and ruin people who aren't interested in a event experience's. Quite frankly I think the person who hosted the event should give a public apology to all the players who experienced lag related issues. That's just my 2 cents. I have
Gee, thanks. I thought the event went rather smooth. If you don't like events, don't join them. The server was holding up fine, and it was 2 days ago since the last event. I thought it was now or never to host one. I personally like to do a Russian Roulette because it's fair for ANY player joining. Also, a lag spike doesn't affect it that much. It's just a break from grinding. If you don't want to join the event, then don't, please. Also, I didn't break CPQ on purpose, if that's what you're thinking. I'll just stop trying to fix bugs, and leave the source as is.
Woah now, is this your first private server? edit: Oh wtf happened when I quoted you o_o.. I'm just going to remove all your custom fonts and colors for the sake of others. There are dozens of different events out there. It is only common to host Russian Roulette and True/False events because they are easy and simple for the players. I'll see about posting a few ideas I've created or ones I have seen others do in the past.
In my opinion RR is boring with 400 people online, because at least 60 people join and your chance of winning is low, and the event itself is pretty boring. However on the upside, at least events are getting hosted I just choose not to join them anymore.
Firstly, how do events cause lag? Do you have PROOF of that claim? Secondly, just because YOU don't enjoy RR, T/F and JQ's doesn't mean that other people don't. The fact that so many people join events shows that they want to be there. Thirdly, running more complicated events is easier said than done. They'd need to decide how they should work (which is very hard without hindsight and experimenting), implement them, and then try and find a way of explaining the rules that most of the playerbase will understand. Easier said than done. Don't want to join an event? Then don't. And I'm quite sure it doesn't make the server lag any more or less, if it did during this event then that is more likely to be a coincidence. So you can keep training. I join events when I am in the mood of it, and I don't when I'm not. I enjoy events because it is fun to laugh and just be around my fellow royalers. I like the events the staff run. Keep it up guys, I look forward to joining more events in 2 weeks when I am less busy and have time to return to royals btw, this thread was unnecessary, and insulting towards the staff.
Also, a more constructive way of making this thread would have been to suggest that we have more events, without insulting what we currently have. Possibly giving ideas of possible new events, and inviting discussion. That would have been a fun and positive thread with a highly positive reception from both staff and players. But instead you chose to approach it by attacking and insulting the staff who try really hard to make this server enjoyable for us all, and are unpaid volunteers. Which was pretty silly.
To answer your question, I cannot provide any hard evidence that would dictate that events are the primary reason to lag. However, history dictates that whenever a major crash or lag instance that has happened, an event was created prior within a reasonable time frame. That's not the same as saying every time we got hit with lag or a crash there was an event but every time that there was an event there was some form of noticable lag or the server suffered a crash. As to answer your question about the creation of this thread. I can't really deny that. I didn't post with the intent to insult the whole staff, just the responsible party. I refrained from using names because the responsible party already knew who he/she was and If I were to say a specific staff member that would make me liable to that claim for that specific member of the staff. In short, a logical choice that wouldn't cause a foul claim and added drama. The thread was never intended to be constructive criticism. My previous example covers that. If you've made an obvious mistake that effects everyone in a negative way, I don't think you deserve to receive a positive response. You messed up, so you're indefinitely going to receive a negative response based on the action. That's not saying i believe he did it intentionally but based on the history of events we can conclude that it generates a negative experience for everyone who isn't in the event. You can't tell me that you enjoy lag. Like if you order a burger and ask for no lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, or onions, waited 10-15 mins for your order, and all the items you specifically didn't ask for are on your burger are on it, do you think I the customer am wrong for giving you a negative response when in addition to your wrong choice, I now have to wait 10-15 minutes more for your mistake? Don't think so. Also, the way I worded it was awfully nice. I didn't call any member the staff any vulgar comments whatsoever but that you refrain from creating a negative experience for those outside of the event. The only thing that could be considered an insult is calling the event "whack". You can't deny that the event lacks longevity. After you've experienced an event with that type of meta, the fun factor only last so many times. After around the 3rd time (extremely generous with that number), you soon realize that the event no longer interest you as much as it initially did. We have to also factor that every event listed is an event that's on every other private server. So roughly 95% of the population has played every event you've ever hosted, so only the 5% will probably enjoy it. But we shouldn't take away that opportunity for the people who haven't played it, should we? Absolutely not. But if we were to create better events that you yourself actually put passion into, you'd be more inclined to perform better because you want everyone to like your event. If it goes great, you now have to find ways to make it more exciting than the last time so the people who've already played it can experience for the first time again and again. If you're content with only using outdated events, or if you think it takes too much time to use your imagination, then you shouldn't be hosting the events. They're supposed to be fun and exciting everytime they're hosted. I'm not saying think of a brand new event at the time you want to host the event. You should take time and brainstorm how your event will work in your own spare time. This could be done while you're walking to school, work, on a break, and etc. The most important aspect here is to have engaging activities for everyone to enjoy and not to just the very few people who haven't enjoyed. Just because someone doesn't tell you they don't like your events doesn't mean you're doing a fantastic jobs with events. People don't like confrontation and they're likely to not tell you how terrible a job you did, they just refuse to participate or come back to whatever it is that they believe you did wrong. How often, when your order your food, do you return the order because they put on a few things that you can remove yourself with little to no hassle? Probably closer to none than closer to every instance. This completes my ideology to why I say your events are "whack". While we can't without fail confirm/deny that events do/don't cause lag, we can agree that the events fall into the urban definition of the word "whack".
Events don't cause lag. The only proof you provided was that when there was an event, there was lag. Two ways to go against this. First, the server lags almost constantly and disconnects very often. This is with or without an event. Second, the sun rises every day, and every day people get in car accidents. With your logic, the sun is the cause of all car accidents. I won't bother getting into the rest, but I do agree that some of the events can be rather lacking in that special "fun" aspect. I did take the time to write down some of the events that I have come across, and I have posted a thread. I'll hijack this thread to promote my own (which people seem to like some of the ideas!): http://royals.ms/forum/showthread.php?t=12262
