Hello everyone! In the original MapleStory, one of my favorite things to do was to just hang out and RP with other players. However, I haven't yet been able to find people to do that with on this private server. So, I'm looking for people who might be interested in roleplay if you think that this sounds like fun and you'd like to try, please post here or message me! I'm based in North America and my IGN is Aloie. I'm an experienced RPer but please don't be intimidated! Even if you've never done it before, I'd love to play with you. Let's escape together and have some fun! If we get enough people, we can probably set up a steady meeting time or even form a Guild. I'm really looking forward to it!
I thought I was kind of role playing all the time by playing an RPG (like, not behaving exactly as I would IRL), but now I realize there are people taking it to the next level.
Hiya, TL/DR: As a roleplayer myself - I don't think this is the type of medium (game) to be roleplaying in, in my opinion. @Aloie You're better off finding roleplay in other games or forums out there on the web than here. Sure, you have all sorts of NX clothing you can dress yourself up as in the cash shop and there's some "story" (notice the giant quotations surrounding the word story), especially towards the newer updates of Maplestory (fighting the Black Mage, Cygnus Knights creating a council to fight Black Mage, heroes time traveling from the past to present, etc.). However, I think that the vast majority of players here just want to train on monsters, gear up super strong, fight bosses, merchant, leech, and Hene ho . In my 10+ years of playing Maplestory, I have heard of maybe one obscure guild that might have roleplayed back on old GMS (dressing up a certain way), but not much else other than that. Plus, the in-game chat function doesn't support that type of gameplay. You're EXTREMELY limited in how much you can type in the all/buddy/party/guild/spouse/alliance chats and it doesn't have much functionality other than typing small messages and typing server commands (like ~mapowner). You can type longer messages using the Messenger thing, but you're only limited in speaking with 3-4 people there. One way around the limited chat functionality on Maplestory is to setup your own Discord server specifically for roleplaying here on MapleRoyals. Just type your posts in the Discord and do your thing in-game. However, I just think you're having to handicap yourself by opening multiple programs to do something that should already be in the game (a more functional chat). I guess? you could do voice chat, but I'm going on the assumption that everyone's typing/reading stuff and not having to do really socially-awkward dialog between each character.
Oh, it's not nearly as big a deal as you might be thinking! And it's a lot of fun. Think of it like DND - sure, you're playing a game with rules, but you're also putting your own story into it. Really, there's no limit to what could be done! Thanks so much for your response! Actually, I think you make some great points. Sure, it's true that the message boxes in Maple are small. However, I think Maple is perfect for the kind of casual roleplay that can be done with small posts. I've done RP in dedicated communities on Discord as well - but I wouldn't even use that for this. Maple is a great place to roleplay for people like me who really love the game, but want to get something more out of it. There's no need to stick with the canon, either. All it takes is an idea for a character to start with, including some personality traits, some goals, and some aspirations. For example, take my character Aloie. Let's say she grew up in Ellinia but was born somewhere else. Her dream is to travel the world, but there's two obstacles. First, she's a bit shy. Second, she's busy working part-time and can't save up enough money. Already, there's a great starting point for anyone - maybe a childhood friend, or maybe a new acquaintance she met by chance - to come in, and have some kind adventure together. Anyway, I know it isn't for everybody and it's a bit idealistic, but I really believe we could have fun together and tell a great story. It could start out as something casual and fun, and who knows, if we get into it, it could become more serious So that's what I think. For you and anyone else who might be interested in the idea, let's give it a try together! No pressure and no rules!
