Post pics of your meals here! Feel free to tell us where you went to get the meal or how you prepared it! Also, for people who need recommendations on restaurants to go to in certain areas, let us know in this thread!

I'm going to start off with a meal I've had a while ago (didn't eat dinner yet so I'll post that later sometime!) at HI-COLLAR in NYC

Yes! It is easy and cheaper than buying food outside. Hehe! Healthier by the way!

I go vegetarian meals when I am with my colleagues because 2 of them are vegans. Fortunately they eat eggs, yet. Not that sad to be vegan once in a while XD

    LOL WTF NO!

I like the idea of experimenting! But I agree with Piffy, the presentation would probably be even better in smaller container!

My dinner tonight! My sister made us steak with mashed potatoes and corn!

Wetness of spring, hotness of summer, color of autumn, and the boldness of winter. Chef, as the great maestro Antonio Vivaldi, you have captured all four seasons in a single stroke. Bravo, maestro.

Let me talk about shopping and preparations first. First you have to understand how long can you keep your food and keep it fresh.

    For Meat and Fish :
I am a busy person, so I'll get my meat and fish from wet market with my mum in the morning during weekends, wash and put it in portions method. (eg put in containers or dehydrate and seal it in packets) I'll keep meat and fish/seafood in freezer. Alternatively, if you are free, you can buy on that day or once in a week if you are free. It will be much fresher.

    For Vegetable :
I'll buy once in a week or 2-3 days and finish it during the week. So you have to calculate when you are buying. Vegetable spoils easily, by the way~ DO NOT WASH IT WHEN PREPARING! Wash it before you are cooking it.

    For rice & noodle :
I usually cook 2-3 portions to store it for 3 meals/3 lunchbox. Heat the food again when you need it! I don't use microwaves but a steamer.

The other dried ingredients such as potatoes, garlic, onions etc, these are supposed to be in dry and dark place.

This is the steamer that I'm using at my home. It is perfect for 1 or 2 person for a meal. There are many other brands that you can find in market!

For frying or baking, I'll use air-fryer. There are a few outstanding brands Meyer, Philips etc.

    Why Air Fryer?
    1. It is healthier
    2. Safe and environmental friendly
    3. Easy to wash and maintain

I don't use oil most of the time. Just spices!

    ****************************************************

Next, I'll talk about a few simple definitions of making lunchbox.

How are you going to prepare your lunchbox in healthy way?
Remember, homecooking/homemade food is always healthier than eating outside. Outside food is always oily and with MSG.
You can cook and season yourself. Here is my way. Less oil, less salt, no sugar. Pepper and herbs are healthy, of course they taste naturally great.

What are your intention of making lunchbox?
My intention is healthy, cheaper and maintain my diet. For my lunchbox, I'll do it in ratio of 2:1:1.
I love vegetable and fruits (take about half of the lunchbox), but I cannot leave without meat (1 portition) and another 1 portion for rice/noodle/potato/nuts.

    ****************************************************

Then, I'll talk about cooking method.
First you need to defrost your fish and chicken if you froze it for days.
I throw the meat or fish in portion/packet on middle shelf of the fridge a night before the day. (Without seasoning)
Sometimes, I season/marinate my chicken/or other meat in a bowl a night before the day. Cover it and put it into the fridge. Cook it on the next day. It tastes great!

Understand timing for cooking food. You'll be rushing for school/work. So we have to do it fast. Usually I'll go like this with my steamer :
    1. Cook rice and chicken together in the steamer but in different layers.
    Rice : 20minutes ; Chicken : 20minutes ; Brown rice : 30-40minutes
Cook these one night before or on the first day of the week. Cook up to 2-5 portions. Store it in fridge with covers after cooling down. Heat it on the next day. Must finish it during the week!!!
    2. Cook the egg together. Just take it out after your.
To peel it instantly, soak the egg in cold water/tap water (Our country'swater is safe) for 5 minutes, or until when you are free, and peel the shell. ~f17
    3. Wash your vegetable, put it in a small plate, a little oil, a little salt and a little pepper/other seasoning. Cook for 5 minutes.

For air fryer, preheat before cooking. Meats usually cook in 20 minutes. Fish usually take about 15-20 minutes.

    ****************************************************

    Lastly, choosing your lunchbox.
I prefer a separated compartments in a lunchbox.
I prefer glass / microwave-safe material because sometimes you may want your food heat up a little in your office/school.
Keep your dry or fried food and nuts away from your cooked food included vegetable. Dry food will become soggy.
Get yourself a bag that fits all your lunchbox and your utensils, as well as keep your food warm.

Ok that's all for preparing lunchbox!
Practice makes perfect! For beginners you will find yourself messing your kitchen and even ruining your day. You will find yourself faster and smarter, soon!

    Good luck ~f17

Your mum/family members cooking for dinner? Request your mum (or anyone is cooking) to cook extra portions for you and store them for next day's lunchbox. Mum's food is always the best ~f14

This is fine! Totally fine. But you have to cover your chicken/any other food.
