Just wondering what other people were thinking of the new set-up for the forums. More or less: Do you like it/dislike it? Why? Current thoughts? Personally I think it's going to take a bit getting used to but I think I can handle it. It was a big surprise coming onto the forums and finding something completely different. I can easily say that I prefer the older forums just because it's something I knew how to navigate through. I also believe it was more neatly set-up (just IMO) but, I'm sure the newer forums will be set-up just as good as the old one, if not better, in the near future. General consensus from those disliking the change(potential check-list?): Donator Coins Missing the box underneath avatars displaying: In-game information Number of likes Country Flag -- we know we all love those "Mark All Forums Read" button Generic theme -- clearly subject to change "Too bright" Are arcades going to make a come-back? Current people (name and amount) viewing a thread or sub-section Everything looks really condensed -- not as simplistic i.e Sticky threads look just like normal threads Avatars are small, not sure if they can be animated Slime emoticons The purpose of this thread is to allow players to give their feedback so that certain changes can be made appropriately (possibly use this as a check list--of requests), people can let of some steam about how upset they are at the forums changing, etc (primarily the second reason). In case you were wondering what's going on (also on the announcement section): Spoiler Benefits of New Forum Update: Notificatons show up under alerts If you are quoted in a thread, you're able to see that underneath "Alerts". Multi-Quote Function now available! (Quote more than one person from the same thread or multiple threads). You no longer have to check a thread multiple times. "Watch Thread" "Follow" system More interactive interface with friends or whomever you choose to follow. Allows you to see what your friends, specifically, are posting. More social-media aspects. You can now Tag people using @[username] Present under [username] -> "Newsfeed" Emails are actually useful now! Inbox or PMs send an email notification now. Auto-saves "drafts" of what you're currently editing as you're typing out a post (especially helpful with guides). No more lost information if you accidentally close MR forums. Just some of the useful aspects of this update that I've noticed. Thought I'd share.
I personally voted no. I enjoyed the old setup so much, this just reminds me of leaf town. I personally thought our server had one of the most active forums due to it's simplicity, this takes it away completely for me. Avatars are small, donator coins are gone, those good green tabs you used to get under your avatar are gone. But as a positive note, it auto updates a thread when someone posts in it (cool feature) and the signatures are even more stylish, so I might be able to get used to it. But i'd be lying if I said that the forum still has its "homely" feel.
I voted no (at its current state) but I will probably get used to it, as fixes are being made and new features are being added. I just need a darker theme and I'll manage. This brightness hurts my eyes.
I voted no, however I do feel there are some pros and cons to the new forum. It definitely looks a lot cleaner. Things such as the chatbox being recent messages being at the bottom as opposed to the top makes it less confusing, as well as the sub-categories for forums. I feel navigation of the forum is a bit less laggy as well. The box in which I am writing this response seems a bit cleaner/more responsive which is definitely a plus. also something keeps saying "draft saved" which sounds very encouraging as I was once writing a Night Lord guide when forum crashed and I lost about 7 hours of straight typing. Some cons are definitely the lack of coins/highlight of the forum name for donators. Another thing is the box under the avatar which gave basic information such as ign, guild, level, location, forum join date, etc. I also miss the lack of mushrooms. One thing is for sure is the intangibles that were affected, such as familiarity and color scheme. The overall layout seems a bit generic as stated by some people above me. Just my 2 cents. EDIT SOME STUFF WERE ADDED LATE!! TY <3
I liked the old forum icons, you know the 'book' icon wich is the same as when you finished a quest ingame
I just wanted to get the forum back online so that people could post. Like I already posted in the announcements, it's not finished yet, things are missing like the maple-style icons, donor coin, etc. I'd rather have seen a poll like this in another 24-48 hours.
I liked the old one a LOT more. I remember when I came here from Destiny and thought the forum here was a lot better. Simple, easy to navigate, and looked nice. This one? Not so much imo.
There's some things I like about it already, and some things I don't. I like that there's an easy "mark all as read" button rather than having to go to each individual forum to mark as read. I like that there is a soft "auto refresh" that shows when new messages have been posted since you last loaded the page. It runs smoother than it did before (so far). I like that the actual message area for forum posts is wider, since the text is the main focus of threads. - Things I would like to see, but I'm sure will be gotten around to at some point: Donator icon/name color changes. It was a very easy way to quickly see who was a donator and who was staff. It was also a nice little bonus for donating. Nothing super important re: donators, but staff should have the different colored names to stand out easily. A darker theme option, or a theme closer to what it was before. The large amount of white is difficult to leave open on the screen for long- it strains my eyes as I have it full screened on a second monitor. I liked having the reputation bar on the bottom, or rather the amount of "likes" compared to posts one has. Again not important, but it was nice. I'll give this some more time to get used to. It's not horrible- it's default, and it definitely feels like that. I know that it'll just take time to get personalized.
In my personal opinion, its fresh great looks theme, BUT! and there is a big but. The simplicity that I liked so much was taken away, and it is too modern now..
Re-edited first post containing the general consensus of those who would like to see certain changes, do continue to post feedback! Every bit (I'm sure) will help contribute to a better forum experience, overall.
It should be starting to look better than it was this morning hopefully. Added the username colours, icons, added maple house images for the forum read/unread statuses, and sorted out some information to show up next to posts.
Well my only complaint about it was something that was my fault, i just needed to refresh haha! So all in all i love the new look, the only thing is all the writting is a little smaller but that will just take a few days to get use to! Edit: Also noticed that the new member, member and senior member titles are gone.
Before actually reading through the thread I'd like to reiterate that this is not in any way a finished product, we promise it'll be less generic and nicer in the future. Also the "Mark all forums read" button was there before, just in a different spot.
