I'm a donator too although only donated 70GBP. And I also got some sentences for this. We've paid a lot in this game even though VPN is really a big barrier for our Chinese player. I guess we got 1/3 Chinese player in this serve (maybe, not sure) and we've contributed a lot (I will say donation and passion is a kind of contribution). But, pls make up a method for us to solve VPN problem. Some of our guys been banned only based on your GUESS and I believe this is unfair. so you guys really need to find a way, not for us, it is for this serve.

First, a private VPN that can provide network optimization is not as cheap as some people say. Poor network experience is generally due to delays ,packet loss,or cant't connect. So,If you want to use a private VPN to optimize your network, then you must find a network node that has a stable network to your PC and game server.This is not easy, and the VPS nodes you usually find are not cheap. So,just google search "low cost vpn" to find VPN is very ridiculous. Secondly,Using public VPNs or 加速器 is common in China.Because China's area is very large, network nodes are very complicated , So,Not all provinces or cities have excellent network quality for your servers.So the possibility of using the public VPN got wrong ban is there.Like AllenDream said, many Chinese use QQ mail. I hope GM can provide more technical means to judge, not just the registration date, registered email.
I am a Chinese player, and im a programmer too. I purchased a VPS and set up a VPN service for myself to play Royals. It has dedicated IP and costs me $5 a month. Like Shiyui said, its possible. But its NOT easy to do this. First, you have to be able to visit the VPS seller's website, which is often blocked by GFW (before you even set up your VPN). Second, you need to be able to pay in proper way. Shiyui said donators must have access to PayPal, but i think regular players are important to this server too. After you made a purchase successfully, you need skills to set up a VPN. Which is often difficult for a non-programmer. Finally you have your VPN set up, your connection is not always stable (i sometimes suffer DC or lag). Many people choose to buy “game accelerator service" from some companies. They are maintained by professionals and have many link to switch, which means more stable. That's why thoses service are expensive. If you want a dedicated IP, it will be more expensive (like 300 CNY per month). Why don't people like me have abilitiy to set up a VPN help people who cant? Because selling VPN without permission, or teaching others to do so is illegal. (yeah f**k this goverment) Almost all online communication methods in China are under surveillance. So I can only help others in real life. Maybe I can post some instruction to set up VPN in this fourm. But I'm afraid this site will be blocked someday. I agree to cancel ban related to IP. Because of following reasons: 1. Your ISP will not always provide you with same IP. We know IPv6 was created because of lack of IPv4 addresses. You might share IP with someone (NAT, DHCP) even if you never use a VPN. 2. There are ways to bypass IP ban. Crackers can use a VPN (private or public). They can purchage VPS from companies like Vultr, which is charged in minutes (means little loss for crackers). And Vultr may sell VPS with that IP again to another customer after cracker made those IP banned and destory the VPS. I wish this server be stable, and without crackers. I also wish innocent player be able to play this game freely.
permanently banning IPs is pretty silly anyways from a technical perspective. the vast majority (95+% id say) of all residential IPs are dynamically assigned and will be recycled within a month.
As you can see in this thread. Maybe now is the time for staff members to make the change of rules on VPN/VPS. Especically for Chinese.
Although you are all making perfect sense for suggesting to find a solution for Chinese victims who are suffering from non-related bans, you must also be aware that most cheaters found are from China as well. I probably caught over 100 cheaters in royals during my career and I can confidently say 90%+ were Chinese: quite a coincidence huh. Maybe a staff member can share stats on % of cheaters that are from China. IP ban was enforced because there were so many selfish cheaters. Staff can't simply lift IP bans all of a sudden. Then your "fellow countrymen", whom you can thank for their contribution and effort, will start abusing the shit out of the system knowing there is nothing blocking them. Yea, they can ban evade or use VPN to evade IP bans but if staff let go of current minimal regulation, number of cheaters will grow uncontrollably at an exponential rate. Hopefully staff can come up with a novel solution that can separate innocent victims. I have many great Chinese friends in royals and I love them, no offence to you guys but this situation.... appears to me like Chinese are reaping what they sowed .

It seems some of you think we simply ban people for having the same IP as someone that broke the rules and that we don't spend considerable time checking account history and details for ban appeals. Most VPN related ban appeals get resolved quickly with the following steps: 1. We link them the announcement post that we wrote regarding public VPN usage, that we can't allow such services as they are often used by people with malicious intend. We check if the accounts are related to the original offender of the rules, and if they aren't we unban the player that appealed their ban, they can continue playing on a different internet IP service. These checks that we preform are not just comparing similar emails and creation dates, it's a combination of the following steps: 1. Asking the player what characters / accounts they own 2. Checking if the player has ran into a similar problem before in technical help or a ban appeal / Check if they mentioned other accounts on forum 3. Looking up all the related accounts and characters from the rule breaker and the ban appealer 4. Comparing and looking for similarities / patterns in: usernames, emails, creation dates, IP addresses, MAC addresses, dates of birth 5. Checking for vote abuse 6. When in doubt: checking if the ban appealer's login history, checking if they have overlapping MAC and IP addresses with other accounts they didnt mention they owned / accounts that are strongly linked to the original offender All of these checks lead to the ban of SinceFuture. He shared many similarities between dates of birth, account creation date, usernames similar to emails of other accounts, similar emails between accounts (not randomly generated QQ numbers), IP and MAC addresses overlapped with different accounts in their login history, vote abuse happened which confirms the motive for creating so many lvl 50 characters on separate accounts, voting times were synchronized and systematically done. There is no guessing work involved in bans. This person is not innocent, they had a vote abuse operation running and they try to pretend they are innocent thinking they could hide their connection between accounts. You will not simply get banned and never unbanned by simply using an accelerator or public VPN service no matter what your location is. We are however not able to allow public VPN usage for the reasons mentioned above. To burst some other bubble I saw mentioned in this thread: No, not 1/3th of our playerbase is chinese, not even close. We're open for suggestions of course however we are not an Internet Service Provider so we wont be starting our own VPN company to accommodate for players that haven't found a suitable and budget friendly way to play the game we provide. We also can't lift the ban on IPs in general because we don't want people to simply start a new account if they get banned on their first one for breaking the rules. In order to provide the best and fair game play we need to enforce the rules that everybody agrees with upon account creation. This is a random and incredibly unaccurate statistic. As much as the staff try to be as objective, we're all humans and it'll be impossible to have an impartial treatment of all players.
Maybe some of them did it due to bad english and less care to game terms, however i think it is more because of China has too many people, the server has too many chinese! The ratio of cheaters from all countries and regions should be approximate equal! any same small % times 1.4 billion can seem like a hell to us!

So Tim just confirmed chinese population are far less than 1/3 of server population meaning there aren't "too many" Chinese population in royals. No matter how large China's actual population is, only limited number play royals and they are far below 1/3 of server population. I can understand if large number of chinese ppl got banned for vote abuse or account sharing because that's related to misunderstanding of server rules. I'm not a GM and I can't catch if someone was vote abusing or account sharing. However, "cheaters" I caught weren't of those kind but who used visible, intentional game ruining cheats mainly hack, macro botting, RWT. Does one really need explanation before realizing those cheats aren't allowed in a game...? That's like setting fire in a house and saying it's due to misunderstanding. I even remember an ex-GM telling me in early new source that all the consecutive hackers I reported were Chinese and asked me why cheaters getting caught were mostly Chinese. It's not your fault that others in China cheated in royals but there's nothing royals can do about it unless you can miraculously exterminate cheaters from China. Till then, you only have your fellow countrymen to blame for their mischief.
SADLY, that part is the truth, and how Chinese MapleStory got ruined, what more ironic is, in CMS most hackers wont even get banned and e-shopping webs sell hack programs as if nothing bad will hanppen to both sellers and buyers. Still, even if u caught 99 Chinese players cheating, that never euqals to the 100th would have ever chosen to do the same, never. Those legitimate players from China should never become the victims and scapegoats of those rule-breakers. The rights of their accounts and their reputation should be protected as any other loyal players from any other countries and regions without any prejudice and any discrimination.
That is why they dont just ban people for using the same ip as a cheater and never lift their bans if they appeal and are not linked to the cheater in any other way than using the same ip. Like I've been trying to explain this entire thread and Tim just explained it very well that cheater don't just get banned on a whim they are investigated, there are multiple factors that has to match up. But you guys don't seem to care at all about this.
