Hi everyone! I just joined Royals, and I'm in LOVE with the nostalgic game play of old school Maple. I'm working on a Bowmaster right now, but in the future (I know I'll inevitably get bored with BM) I want to make a paladin or shadower. I mained both back in the day and remember loving them a lot in terms of game play and damage. Which do you recommend?

Shadower, more viable for bossing, is fun , throw money at boss face.

Paladin lvling pretty much the same from 10 to 200, and heaven hammer every 20s from 120-200. The job are not welcome to boss party but got their respect.

I play bishop and corsair so no bias.

Shadower are overall a way more expensive class when compared to Paladins!

If you want to have a great early game with a nice mesos flow, it will be great if u start with a mage, investing a week or two to make a leecher will make a great difference in the overall gameplay u will be having!

My suggestion is to make a priest to lvl81 with MAX-Ed holy symbol, then make a fire poison archmage, target to reach lvl130 and start selling leech via duel clienting.

Sell leech with ur archmage while HS-ing with ur priest @ Maps like Ulu2 will fund u 100mil/Hour at least, and lets say u get even more funding with your mage, u can 1 hit petri, u can easily grab a 200mil/Hour.

These mesos can easily fund the washing that i really suggest you invest in your shad/Paladin

Then invest into the more expensive gears For Bossing, such as facestompers, Pink Gaia Cape, Attack gloves, weapon and shield!

Oh you can self leech your Paladin/Shadower too with ur mage!

I definitely plan on making a bishop soon to multiclient, right now I'm just kind of playing for fun. It's been so long since I've played retro maple. Question about leeching though- I know you probably have to have 2 accounts to multiclient. I'm unfamiliar with leeching though, as I've never invested the time before to make a mage back in the day. Is it just a matter of leveling up, Smega-ing "x/hour" and then just partying with someone who's afk? Just seems too easy lol. Also, if I'm thinking about creating a leeching service, is it worth it to invest in gear vs. mastery books or vice versa? Thanks for your help <3

    Gear/mastery for mage? No clue

paladins aren't hard or expensive to gear. Hell, my friend said "idgaf" and threw 7 30's on a shitty crushed skull and I ended up with a 135 attack for free... obviously a special case but it's not like, a craven with 5 30's on it... lol. You could get a decent one for next to nothing. Also, leveling with maple weapons, some cheap dex earrings + mastery, accuracy was never really a pain, washing is cheap as hell too (I had the MP for 30k Hp at like level 90), but washing isn't required so if you don't it's not a "restart you dun goofed" case.

I enjoy grinding on my paladin, most mobs have an elemental weakness. When you max ACB you feel like a god, but you aren't, cause you will always be weaker at bosses but thats okay.

As for shadower.. bombing BF, IMO, is a ton of fun. It's such a depature from regular game play, but the damage evens out, and so as you reach a certain point the exp gains drop... I made it 70-90 in less than a day and I was terrrrrrrrible at bombing till like the last few big foots, but costs a lot. I haven't geared my shadower yet, but I can't really imagine getting half way decent gear will cost a lot, again, it's not like a NL you're aiming for top damage with. You don't need speed or jump shoes, and with ME, you fly through levels so you don't even really need a good dagger to well into 4th.

I would recommend not making a mage or hp washing (like adding base int, some washing is ok later on). It's so much work while not being fun, so kinda defeats the point of playing a game imo. Do you really want to spend a few hundred hours playing mage just to leech your attacker with base int level 1-135? Ultimately your decision, but I'd encouage you just to play whatever class you want so you don't waste so much time. You can still be strong and do all end game content (well, ranged classes will struggle with HT and Toad), just it will be a less traveled road.

Paladin and Shadower are pretty underpowered classes in 4th job, but fun and rare. Shadower can do a ton of damage if they use mesos explosion and other attack skills simultaneously but it cost a ton of mesos per boss (like 80mil per Krex). Their damage without bombing seems pretty bad but idk. Paladin is really good at Krex, maybe decent at Zakum but that seems about it. Ultimately again it's really your decision. People can tell you what they think is better, like personally I would make a Shadower because they are the most unique in gameplay while if I wanted a warrior I'd just play hero/DRK which are similar enough to Paladin thematically. But there is no right answer.

I've leveled both paladin and shadower to to 4th job and I can tell you that shadower is much more interesting. Shadower is actually my favorite class in the game now. I've gotten to lvl 154 doing almost nothing but bombing bf since lvl 75
