I mean the map is big, windraider gives like 3200 and stormbreaker gives like 6600. Windraider is slow, has long stunlock and deal only 660 which a assassin can easily hp drain back, while stormbreaker (the fastest, highest damage dealing mob in the map) stuck on easily sniped platform with no way to reach the player. Most of the guide I read tell me to go train wolfspider (I'm a lv80 sin) which I hate because they hit hard, faster and eat more punishment than windraider and gives only 4800. Wolfspider map is also too tight in my opinion, with spiders spawn at all platform but the main entrance.
Personally I loved windraiders. Wolf spiders hit much more and can easily kill you and they have higher defense. I found windraiders better than Wolf spiders at 8x - 9x, before newtie sniping.
The two major drawbacks would be thay the spawn isn't nearly as good as it was on GMS (where it was easily the best exp from 64-90 or so) and that the map is a total pain in the ass to get to. If the spawn gets upped, it'd rise back to use. Suggestion thread, anyone?
Already been suggested Mike. <3 They increased it once, but it wasn't enough imo. If we ever get CWK, the Hall of Tornado is a GREAT windraider spawn too.
People probably don't do much research into this issue because of the fact that Wolf Spiders gets you right out of this slump within 3 hours and it's on to sniping Newties or Ulu Estate 2.
Most people used to go to that windraider/stormbreaker map that's available in CWK castle (back in GMS). There's no chance of falling through the map and having to go back through the JQ, like there is in lower ascent. Wolf spiders are just easier to get to, especially with the quest line bugged (The Mark of Heroism--allows you to completely skip that JQ to get to lower ascent).
I don't see how it'd be overpowered if a whole party has to defeat a number of bosses and go through a lengthy process to even get there in the first place. I can only imagine how bugged it'd be, at first, if it were implemented.
It's worth noting that the JQ is much easier here, since the giant pillar doesn't actually deal any damage. It IS OP. It's more powerful than a HT necklace by a large margin, and yet it's easier to obtain. If it were to be added I would expect a significant nerf to it's weapon attack bonus.
It was added in only 10 versions away from v62 (v72 introduced CWK + CWKPQ). You have to successfully get through the PQ and defeat all four bosses at once, this is assuming that when it's implemented that it's completely polished and working efficiently. Knowing how bugged certain PQs are at the moment, I'm sure it'll be a hassle to get through. Regardless, I think the trouble you go through is well worth it. There are no slots on the MoN so it can't be chaos'd. On top of that: they're untradeable and (IIRC) more or less work like a zhelm (where you can't pick up more than one). I don't see what's overpowered about that, they were intentionally set up that way. Back on topic: Unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that people are lazy and would much rather go to wolf spiders, a cavern that's literally three maps away from NLC. You also need someone else in Lower Ascent grinding with you/alongside you (in a party/not in a party) on a different platforms to up-keep the spawn (this is how it worked in GMS). With windraiders not being a popular spot, this isn't exactly easy to execute especially when it comes down to convincing someone to train with you at that map. Let's also not forget that: Even though the totem pole doesn't deal damage, it's just not appealing to go through all the trouble of getting to Lower Ascent. TL ; DR (on-topic) Unless the spawn is buffed and that quest line is fixed (The Mark of Heroism--allows you to skip the JQ), no one is going to bother with windraiders (basically what it is now).
well guys, I just found out another good training location and it is locate in lower ascent. By entering the cavern on the left side of lower ascent, you will be entering the cavern of pain, where the mobs are consist of nothing but windraiders and stormbreaker (but much more stormbreakers compare to lower ascent, apparently). There are platforms for the ranger to snip the monsters too.
I'm horrible at JQs (took me hours to do zak JQ) and I find the one for lower ascent relatively easily. If you hate it that much, you can set a tele rock to that map and just tele there if you want to go there quickly~ It's definitely not bad at all imo. A good change from WS etc.
