We are adults now. Unlike the children who played GMS, many of us have real-life responsibilities and limited playtime. It is just wrong to spend 50%+ of that limited time doing nothing while waiting for virtual ships. If you want nostalgia you can still board the ships. But the fast travel options (tickets, rocks) make the game viable for many other people.
I love the fast travelling tickets. Yes ships were sometimes a nice place to communicate with fellow maplers but the rides were extremely long and when the server unstable you could find yourself doing the same rides a couple of times, wasting around an hour just moving from place to place.
