Harry potter fans. Potterheads. Whatever you call yourself. <3 Especially people who like to roleplay I've been part of SL roleplays for about a year now, playing as a (now 12yr old) hufflepuff student. Honestly, because of it, I've read up on just about everything to do with Harry potter. Ask me a question and I can likely answer it, even if it's vague. If I can't answer with canon facts, I probably have headcanon for it.. I've read all the books several times, and watched all the movies several times as well. My favorite student is Luna, favorite Professor ranges from McGonagall to Lupin. Call out to all you guys! Surely I'm not alone, right? </3
Had a similar lore interest in Adventure Time a while back, but it's miles shorter than the lore people have delved into when it comes to Harry Potter.
My greatest downfall--the inability to read anything longer than a paragraph without my mind going off tangent--has led me to not "get" the oh-so-common obsession with HP. The movies were very well-made and enjoyable to watch, but that's where it ends for me.
I hate the movies. They do a terrible job of catching the Harry Potter essence for me. And the million and a half directors? Seriously, it's like they were trying to be as inconsistent as possible. The books are some of my favorite ever though! JKR needs to make an encyclopedia already!
Agreeing with Rob here. The movies (especially the 5th and 6th) skipped about half the content, some of which played key roles in the novels, and, as Rob pointed out, failed to have that true Harry Potter "feel" about it. As for the books, I love them. I've read them all in several languages several times... I even wrote/am still writing some fan fiction (an alternative ending to replace the 6th/7th book, although they were done great!). And I'd probably be in the position to, just like you, Sila, answer any HP question thrown at me! inb4 HP quiz battle.
Totally agree. After the 4th movie, it just didnt fit right with the rest of them .Dumbledore especially. Ughhh how I wish that other actor hadn't died T_T He did such agood job of that aloof, but ever-present Dumbledore. Not this: The movies did pretty good with the 7th book at least- but a few things were changed and it really bothered me. Like, the scene with Bellatrix and Hermione- in the movies they carved "mudblood" into her arm. In the books Bellatrix was using crucio... Why such a big change? If anything, crucio would've been more 'dramatic' for the movies- and gets the point across perfectly well -because- it's an unforgivable curse. I could go on forever about the discrepancies between the movie/ books. Also totally wish there was more canon on Seers. Just a personal thing, since I love oracles and seers and divination. There was soo little info on it... I've just made up a ton of it for use in roleplay at this point. XD
8 movies, 7 books. Tbh i feel like the 4th movie could've been made into 2 movies as well- that book was huge and there was soo much packed into it. The movie just...skipped sooo much. Especially the graveyard scenes with Voldemort returning. I was sitting there waiting for things to happen and they just...didn't. Entire pages of chapters were skipped in the movie. So much.
Dobby <33 Yeah, I totally understand how they wanted to give Neville the spotlight too a bit- but DOBBY. Come onn.
Every time I see this, the object in my hand becomes an accidental horcrux. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY U RUIN ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS!!!!!!! -Seeths in corner with new horcrux, my phone-
Same here, I always go into a fit and rant about it everytime I watch the movie! LIke Nooooo that's not how its supposed to happen!
So this thread is going to be a discussion about how terrible the depiction of the novels is? Yay! Fun times ahead! Also, @Rob, your description is accurate and hilarious at the same time. You must have about a hundred horcruxes right now... That's a lot more than the eight Mr. Vol-Dee-Mor had.
