Eh, not to be questioning your knowledge on HP or anything, but he had 7 horcruxes, not 8.

All I can say, is I read 50 pages of the 5th book, and fell asleep on it, making me late to school a few years ago, - ever since, I had a personal vendetta against ol' Harry

Yup, 7 horcruxes, but only 6 ever existed at one time, since the Diary was destroyed before Nagini became a horcrux.

I think just being Biritsh makes me a Potterhead.... That and the fact that I bought a noble collection wand yesterday, have all the books, am part of the Harry Potter Society at uni amongst other things.

He had eight, one of which was accidental and one of which is in a sort of grey zone, so I guess 7 and 8 are both true. He never had them all at once as Rob said.

    Ravenclaw's Diadem
    Slytherin's Locket
    Huffelpuff's Cup
    Marvolo's ring
    The diary
    Nagini (after his rebirth)
    Harry Potter (accidentally)

That's seven; however, by the definition of a horcrux, which is any object, including a human being, in which someone hides a fragment of his or her soul, he had eight. Quirrell was considered a horcrux by definition... But in the first book, nothing of horcruxes was known. The one thing that lacks is him actually murdering someone to put that fragment of his soul in Quirrell. I'm pretty sure it's considered a grey zone of sorts... So I guess either 7 or 8 is correct. :p

Edit: J.K. Rowling decribed Quirrell as "temporary horcrux".

Edit 2: I think you could see it this way: His soul was split into 8 pieces (7 actual horcruxes), but more object(s)/living creature(s) were possessed by a soul fragment, making them, by definition, a (to quote JKR) "temporary horcrux".
