Hello everyone, I started playing about a week ago or so and I have kind of run in to a bit of a wall. I feel extremely weak when it comes to progressing, I am a lvl 33 F/P mage and I can't seem to do much to fix my damage, all the guides I can find refer to mobs I can hardly hit even when I over lvl them by more then a few points, everyone says luck is the worst thing I can do for my mage but I will never hit anything without it. I have no money so I can't afford the gear everyone talks about being needed at this point and I feel like I am just struggling along with my grinds. I recently learned I can get a lvl 35 maple staff from liagators and some 60% scrolls for it from rocky masks, I am just curious if I am missing something critical in the gameplay or if everyone has this hard of a time getting established in the game.
You should try remaking a pure int mage. Even naked mages are among the strongest characters when it comes to mobbing https://royals.ms/forum/threads/the-best-fire-poison-guide-there-was-is-and-ever-will-be.27168/ (i am mostly on after 11pm+ servertime, if you catch me then, you can pm me for freebies)
I am not really sure what I am missing here, will int give me accuracy? I also have not really gone over board on luck, I am at 35 in it. I do have some scrolls that are worth a bit but other then waiting for someone to use a megaphone to try and buy one that I have I am not sure how to go about finding a buyer :/
Just add all your stats into int, it boost both your accuracy and damage on mages. luk is quite useless on mages. perhaps you can recreate a new character
What bout me? I'm new... well returning might be a better word, and struggling.... to get a girlfriend. @Daradune As a Bishop main, i'm not sure where you got the idea that luk influences your accuracy. Unlike most other classes, the ONLY reason mages MIGHT need luk is in order to equip higher level equip. Our accuracy is influenced by our Magic and our magic alone, which is directly influenced by our int and not our luk (i think.... I'm honestly not sure whether there's a formula out there that shows how much luk = magic, however i DO know that 1 Int = 1 magic. Which by default means that so long as you pump nothing but int, you're never going to have an issue hitting things, and if you do, its either because your equipment is outdated, or you're hitting mobs WAY outside your level range. In other words, the only reason you're not hitting anything NOW, is ironically because you're pumping stuff into luk and not int.) Moving forward, there are only 2 reasons to equip higher level mage armor; the first is to get better defenses and the second is to get better stat bonuses, e.g. you're never gonna get a +10 int bonus on a level 5 armor. The problem here is that as a mage, you can equip the highest level armor in the game and everything is still going to hit you like a truck, which is why we get magic guard. However, magic guard functions by using your mp to buffer your life from damage instead of hp, which means pump int would also directly influence your survivability AND provide more offensive stats at the same time. The other reason is less of an issue and more of a choice. To illustrate, yes you can scroll higher level equipment to offset the amount you pumped into luk, however a direct comparison for higher level mage armor would show you that even the most perfectly scrolled equips would NOT be able to offset the amount of luk it requires to equip it in the first place. For example: A clean Dark Starlight robe requires a minimum of 40 luk to equip and can give up to 10 int godly. Assuming you have no other equip with dex, you would be losing 36 int, in order to gain 10 int and a minuscule amount of extra defense. As you can see, unless you can perfectly scroll that overall. 10 slots x 5int per 10% = 50 + 10 = 60, the break even point here is 6 10% scrolls, which will give you 30 int for an even 40 total int. Any less, and you would be LOSING out on damage AND MP. Now, i dunno bout you, but any body who can scroll 6 10% or 30% scrolls on any equip and succeed, should probably stop playing maple and go to a casino or something. This ratio only gets worse the higher the level of armor since most of them never go beyond +10 int as a bonus even when godly. Quick tip: The most optimal overall you can equip that is not a bathrobe is actually the brown(F) or white(M) doro robes. They give a very good +9 int bonus if godly, and require 24 luk to equip, which is very easily obtained with even just a zakum helm, or pumping in some luk if you cant afford that. Scrolling that overall with some int would quickly offset any loss you might have made by pumping luk, and possibly give u even more int to work with if you were lucky. Other equips are variable, but generally most will stick to the maple staff/wands until they hit 70, and subsequently 130, wherein they will use the elemental wand series which also do not require any luk, allowing them to pump all the int they want for both maximum survivability and damage.
@Kur0Kishi Thanks for the information I really was truly lost not knowing that magic power was also accuracy, I just assumed that the reason mage had a second recommended stat was that it was for accuracy and I could find nothing anywhere to show otherwise. I do feel a bit short though still because I am looking at either playing the lottery on making new gear my self and farming until my eyes bleed, or shell out 10 times the cash I have made to buy anything that other players have made. I am looking at badly rolled work gloves that give 4 int and 2 magic attack and people want 6-8 mill for them. This giant pay wall that has formed because people at end game can farm super efficiently kind of sets this goal that feels so far out of reach for even meh gear that I just feel lost. And I don't feel like my account is ruined by having 35 luck, but so far people seem to feel like it is worth re rolling over for at this point.
You can honestly invest into a Moonlight/Starlight if you're strapped for mesos because if you equip (zhelm, pendant, etc) and add a little bit of luk, you will be able to equip it. Since most people prefer Doros/Doroness, Moonlight/Starlight are a more affordable option. Dark Noels are also a popular glove of choice for mages, and that's only 2 luk off from Moonlight/Starlight. As an F/P mage myself, I don't feel as though the extra bit of luk is holding me back. I have 38 luk to equip my Dark Noels!
