I don't know what the actual argument for these are. I think in original MS they were supposed to stop cheaters more than they were for security. They seem like a total band-aid for a security system that was never implemented, and they provide no real security. Meanwhile, the numbers dance around making it frustrating to enter them. Moderator note: Partially accepted. The new Control Panel allows user some control. However Staff recommends all users to use extra safety measures.
Maybe have an optional option to disable entering it, but it still adds some security, man. Keyloggers can't catch your code when it's entered by mouse clicking, like its now, for example. It's still helpful against being hacked. But, I think the need for both a pic and a pin is unnecessary. Just one of them is enough.
If your computer has a keylogger installed on it, you're far past gone. Unfortunately a simple system like this is like a padlock, it only keeps the innocent out. The bad guys will just cut the lock. Good to hear. Can't wait!
It seems like an very good addition to provide for account sharing/account intrusion Let me just raise a case example to share some discussion and food for thought! Andy shared his another Private Server account information with his friend adam which is allowed at the other end. They both play Royals, Adam sense that Andy might use the same account information on royals. Adam later tried on the similar account information in Royals and successfully logged into Andy's Royals account. Causing an ban of Account Share? it damages Both Ends, with this addition, it really makes alot difference, not just defense from keylogger and such. With PIN and PIC Introduced, it solves this issue of not just security, but account sharing or even intrusion. Or maybe even. Account sales with potential RWT? What are your thoughts? In my opinion, yes a few seconds more of work, but it applies so much more for the community, especially making their account safe. Some might ask? What if i want to Change my PIC and PIN? u have to contact a GM, which will definitely be useful even after your account gotten hacked. to prove yourself if required What if i forget my PIC and PIN? GMs around will available to help out on such case.
Interesting points. I think, though, that at that point it is account stealing, not sharing? Feel free to correct me on the rules. But that does not seem like two people trying to game the system by using one account, that sounds like one person has socially engineered another to gain access to the account (i.e., most of what "hacking" has historically been). The simple rebuttal to your counterpoint is that the user's password should suffice as a personal identification that no other people should have. Once the user has shared his password, who's to say he didn't also share his PIN?
Keeping it simple, If the 2nd party has the ID and Password, and together with his PIN and PIC, its an very obvious case of account sharing. This account sharing is perma bannable in Mapleroyals, in any sense, its something that any player should try or even think about doing.
I think you completely misunderstood my point. If two people are account sharing they would have the username and password on a system with a username and password. And, on a system with a username, password, PIN, and PIC, they'd each have those as well. What's the difference?
Okay, sir. So let's assume you're correct and a PIN or a PIC doesn't protect from Keyloggers. What do you suggest instead? Removing it completely without the option of having it for those who want it, is unfair. I'm sure some people feel safer having a PIN or a PIC included. If you have a better security measure or method, everyone is ready to hear it.
What? I never said PIN and PIC don't protect from keyloggers. I said if your computer has a keylogger you're way more in trouble than having your MS account stolen. They've got ALL your passwords. Keyloggers are a very bad example of what PINs and PICs protecting against. If you have a keylogger, why couldn't they just have installed a program that monitors your screen? My point is, there is no need to have Security Theatre in the game. There should be a real system, or nothing at all. A real system, for example, would be Steam's code authentication.
