Meso Drop Rate

Does anyone know how often mesos drop from a monster? I always thought it was 50% but on 2x drop i noticed that monsters don't drop mesos 100% of the time

 

Pretty sure that its not that monsters will drop mesos twice as often, but when they do, they will drop twice as many mesos.

 

I thought it was 4x mesos and 2x drop. Then would that mean that mesos drop at the same rate but the price is 8x?

 

4x exp 2x meso 2x drop
