as someone that religiously bosses and felt that there needs to be tougher mechanics in place, i like your idea and appreciate how far in depth you’ve gone as to even include solutions. +1
yeah i do agree that sair and drk are going to suffer a lot (why am i still playing my drk ), but at the current state of the game, jam key attackers are favoured as they are dealing high damage with easy gameplay where they do not have to worry about stuff like manual pots, buffing the team or skill rotations. so apart from just nerfing auto pot, there should be buffs to hard to play classes and support classes so that they are rewarded. for example (just for illustration sake, going off topic from nerfing auto pot) if NL was top DPS with a 80% more dps than number 2 DPS class, jam key play, self sufficient for all the buffs (has SE as a class skill, stance, etc.), and has the HP of warriors, common equips, etc. - that will be totally broken and there will not be any incentive to play other classes however, if the class was super hard to play, for example, you are pretty much playing a rhythm game at like 500 notes/ minute to throw stars, while every star you throw burns like 10% of your mp, auto pot disabled, buffing = playing 2 tracks at once, breaking the combo = receive double damage for 1 minute (stackable multiplier) - basically high stakes cancer gameplay, then it might actually be worth it to those who are willing to take on the challenge. tl;dr, if jam key attackers cannot be nerfed, make the hard to play classes stand out more and reward them more.
Wouldn't it actually encourage you to play NLs more? I mean with the huge avoid they have even going with manual pots won't be that difficult since you can dodge like 80% of the hits While classes like pirates, archers etc will have a very bad time with low avoid combined with low hp forcing you to pot every second. Also you can die easily even if you play perfectly due to external factors like lag which will make the game more frustrating to play
100% agree with this. Removing autopot is a huge indirect buff to nightlords. At high level, nightlords rarely ever get hit, its kinda insane. I've done zak runs where I have literally stood in front of zak spamming triple throw and have ran into the 100 attack limit cap before I was hit and knocked back. Basically, at a high level, what people would end up doing is having a nightlord as their main attacking DPS and simply just spamming triple throw on it while focusing their attention on their buff mule, which they would also gear to have decent DPS. In the end, nothing would change except that the person who before was only paying attention to their NL is now mostly paying attention to their buff mule that is geared to do some DPS. If anyone is looking for more of a challenge, just play Drk or Corsair. These classes actually have higher DPS than either Hero or NL when perfectly controlled. Sure, maybe its not reasonably possible to achieve at something like horntail, but, it is, in theory something that is still possible and a nice goal to strive for. And if thats not your thing or isn't difficult enough, why not try controlling two characters in a boss run at the same time? Play a nightlord and bishop, or hell, play TWO attackers and attack with both at the same time.
The focus of this thread is about changing auto hp so it's more difficult for 1 person to handle more mules in an instance. This would mean Archer and Buccaneer mains are chosen more often for a party rather than a passive mule. A Hero will find himself out dpsing a Drk more often and NL/Corsair dps is boss specific. If everyone in that scenario decided to main a NL because auto hp isn't as good then who's going to supply Sharp Eyes?
the point of this suggestion is to make bringing mules more challenging, and promote proper team compositions at the current state of the game, it is super easy to bring in SE mule to buff the NL. surely you can bring in just the nightlord but a team of 5NL + 1 BM properly playing is probably better than a team of 6x NL no SE as for the lags, im pretty sure auto pot does not save anybody from a 10 sec lag and that auto pot does not trigger during heavy lags try running multiple characters simultaneously with and without auto pots, pretty sure it gets more tiring to manage multiple characters without auto pot currently auto pot is the gateway to ez multi character play if you had 6 clients on, all NL fighting krex, should not be too difficult due to the nature, except for the occasional repositions imagine doing the same at zak - pretty difficult to manage but not impossible with auto pot support try the same for zak without auto pot, 1/1 maximum devastation, gonna become a micromanagement god
There is a guide for this https://royals.ms/forum/threads/one-hand-control-your-whole-mapleroyals-life-has-been-a-lie.100483/
You can easily bring SE/HS mule into krex or shaolin without getting hit (just stay down in krex and in shaolin go to the far side) As for zak you can either join a normal full party with more people (many do parties like these) or simply not bother doing the boss (he doesn't give that good exp anyway) and in HT most of the time there is an active BM and not a mule anyway
it is certainly possible to bring the mules along, like i said earlier in the thread, its not 100% removal of mules, but to make it difficult to bring them along and for HT, that is what i really want to see (pretty much the whole point of this thread) more often everywhere in the game, where people are actually having reasons to play the class rather than treating them as mules
Well, some ppl or alot of ppl are using mules because its such a hassle to get a party going sometimes. And having a mule yourself that can give you that buff you need can save you alot of time, time that not alot of ppl actually have. Imagine you having a full schedule where you can only find like 2 hours of playtime every other day. Maybe you dont want to spend a full hour looking for that one class that you need to start running. Maybe you live in a timezone where most ppl are asleep when you have the opportunity to play. Dont get me wrong, its an interesting concept you are speaking of. However using pots yourself is not that difficult, its more of an inconvenience. Imagine bowmasters using hurricane, they will have to stop casting it so often to use pots that they will miss out on so much dmg. The best way to counter that would be to hp wash that not everyone can/want to do. And sure back in the day on the real servers alot of ppl used potions themselves, but not alot of ppl wanted/could spend money on maplestory to buy both a pet and autopot so they had no other choice but to use it themselves. And i was one of those ppl. And on another note, if mules where something that the royals staff thought hindered the gameplay. they wouldnt allow multiclienting in the first place. Cause again, back in the day ppl still used mules for the same reason they do now. But if you are adamant on this more "hardcore" way of playing the game, maybe you and others who feel like you could maybe ask the GMs to open up a new world on the server with more limited gameplay. you know like reboot is on the current servers that doesnt allow trading or any of that. could just make it so some items are not available to be bought there and maybe change some other rates there to fit the more hardcore type of people. Well this is the end of my rant. take care.
limiting to a guild will pretty much be roleplaying, but in terms of player sentiments, it would probably (maybe subconsciously) be like "bleh this boss run will be so much faster if i brought 5x characters along"
well now there is a reason to play a non attacker like "we need SE for the party", you can smega "R> SE for _________", or there is reason to build up/main a BM/MM so that SE is available right now attackers are valued, whereas support classes are better off as mules (unless playing mules is impractical). as for mules and multiclients, what im trying to poke here is that playing multi characters should be a challenge and not super trivial like staying on the left side of the map n rebuff whenever for hardcore play, well im hoping for diversity instead of ironman style hopefully someone has better suggestions than me so nobody has to feel the anger if i placed a poll too early for an unpopular suggestion, its probably gonna get downvoted before much of the discussion is read or developed
While clearly plenty of people like your suggestion we still need to acknowledge that the idea is just not very feasible. Almost the whole player base has grown to rely on auto pot and mules. The change will be too drastic. Unless we want the administrators to deviate from more pressing demands like new PQs just to focus on testing and implementing this change, I don't think it would be easy at all to accomplish what was suggested. Lol the server has become mule story and it's just a reality we need to accept. the best way for non-meta classes to be included in team compositions is probably just through balancing. Buccs shads and paladins are already being planned for buffs, so that's a step in the right direction. And when there's a diverse team composition naturally there won't be as much need for mules
Well supports are needed right now as well. Bishops for the dispell, HS, Ress and most of the bossparties ive been in the bishop has NOT been a mule. I often see ppl smega for bishops for bossing so im not really accepting that argument. And other than bossing the bishops also sell lowlevel leech and skele leech. So its not like there is a shortage of supports. Ppl just prefer to do different things. And when ppl smega for example HS/SE or w/e it could be, its not necessarily that they just want a mule to join em, they just open up that mules are accepted cause all they want is the buff. Like it doesnt matter if its a bowmaster or marksman, if its a priest or bishop. If all they need is the buff they will take whatever. A little bit of something is alot better than a whole lot of nothing.
sadly this might happen , unless supports get buffed to an unbelievable level to compete in value with an attacker, gonna have mulestory yeah i do agree that support class players are still viable, but what im trying to promote here is is not 100% replacement of mules or saying that support classes are unplayable what im trying to get here is to add depth to are parts of the current meta like "im a NL and i can bring my SE n HS mules along, got slots for 3 characters?" with auto pots being nerfed, bringing multiple characters will be a challenge with multitasking skills required instead of "all my chars have auto pot with 2000 ginger ales/PE"
