No offense, but this appeal isn't a good example to back up your point. How long does a trip to the kitchen take? This player clearly was breaking rules and had a very poor excuse in their appeal.

If you think rules can change in a better way, please propose how. I'll try to counter it with rebuttals by giving all possible loopholes one can exploit once permabans are lifted.

It's in the rules- it pretty much breaks down to "simply logging in" is minor, and anything that gives another player an advantage (little or big) is major- the appendices with the list is just the most common reasons for straight perm bans.

fwiw- The evidence used for the ban reads that the player in question knew it was against the rules but was expecting it to be temp- this is compounded by her appeal where she admits and links the exact rule which makes her ban perm- but starts to argue on a basis that it will alienate new players, etc, that the rules are strict.

Are you sure she really knew that rule beforehand? It seems more likely from what I can see at least that she was able to quote that rule because she was doing research for the sake of her appeal rather than being aware of it beforehand.

In regards to the OP: I can see why the staff chooses to be largely black and white with the bans as they can be time consuming, especially if the violators of the rule are aware of possibilities for exception. With that said however I do feel that the best way to go about it is to judge certain lighter cases with discretion rather than a black and white hammer. But again I can see where that may get very difficult to do considering the extra amount of time that would require.
