How about the devs take this server a little bit more serious? We never get any content or events. It's the same thing over and over again. People are leaving. The server just became LeechStory itself. Make people look forward to things. Add full HD for example, or add events, equipment level, lv 250 cap, etc. You can make people leech less if you made it more fun grinding. Some sort of event could help. Just add content. The server needs something refreshing.
Not a developer, but I will give you my input as a player on your feedback. I will try to breakdown your feedback into something more bite-sized. I wish it was more specific instead of something so vague. '' ... We never get any content or events. ... Add full HD for example, or add events, equipment level, lv 250 cap, etc. ...Some sort of event could help. Just add content. ..." No Content and Events According to the forum event thread, you are false to say we didn't get any content or events, in the past 3 months itself, we already have gotten 3 events and the new release of Mu Lung Dojo. I have also taken the liberty in putting them in a calendar form. Limitation of Content When you first discover MapleRoyals on the Games Top 100 website, you will notice the keywords that the server use to describe itself. I have marked them out in red below. These keywords, already represent the pre-set limitation on what the server will cover. I'm assuming you never came across this, even after the fact you said you were a veteran of 4 years here. I will ignore the word ''Nostalgic'', even though I mark it out as I have already explained myself, why I would avoid using that word. So let's focus on the keywords like "Old School''. So generally accepted definition of old school Maplestory in the community here anything before Big Bang or slightly around Big Bang patch (2010/11) range is okay for implementation or suggestion. So these are restrictions may never change. Because of that, some of your suggestions below are already automatically non-viable because they came way after post-Big Bang patch. Rising level cap to 250 - Seen in Unleashed Patch (V137 | 2013) Introducing HD - 2018 era range Higher tier equipment - No new end-game content = no new high weapon. Based on the list, we left with only 2 or 3 potential end game content, Pink Bean and Neo Tokyo (MSEA/JMS). ''...People are leaving..." Lower population count The reduce population count can be attributed to a few factors. Adult commitments Based on this 2007 news report and this 2017 population census, which place the majority of players's age to between 19 to 27 years old, which is the time period where players will attend colleges, studying at university, finding full time employment, starting a family etc. Continuing to play an old school server to might not be the number 1 on their priority or they won't invest so much time anymore. The lifespan of old school games As mentioned above, due to an already set amount of content we potentially can have, old school servers will have a more shorter lifespan than most. Evetually, the players who completed the game, have their fill or fulfil their childhood dream here will evetually move on. Furthermore, is this not something limits to MapleRoyals, other similar old school servers have also experience a population decline. Is not an easier topic to solve, it can't be fix by aggressively adding new features or content that the community didn't choose. Spoiler: Population decline in MS private servers
This isn't a well funded server who can churn out completely new content at regular intervals. All it has is a dedicated team of volunteers and a hardworking developer that help to keep it alive.
If this is supposed to be a nostalgic old school maplestory server, why is it 3,2x exp, and why are most of the smegas of people buying/selling leech. Nothing in this server is nostalgic except for the maps.
90% of leechers are doing it because they are HP washing. 5% are ones who justify the cost of paying for leech at certain levels. The final 5% are not washing and are just lazy. If it was 1x exp, nobody would play. Even at 3.2x exp, it's a crawl to level up (you don't see too many level 200s around) .
Bruh. Thats been Royals for probably 2 going on 3 years now. This is a nostalgic old school server, where the core functions of the game will remain untouched. As a result leeching will continue to be a thing until which time they decide to overhaul the entirety of the core functions of the game. If thats not your cup of tea, there are other places to try.
Well, had you had one for your 4 years of play, you'd have seen this topic has been brought up a numerous times. The discussions always stretch into multiple page threads and in the end nothing changes because thats the entire point of the server. The core mechanics of the game dont change. Thats why its nostalgic and old school.
That's ENTIRELY up to how the player wishes to experience royals. It is perfectly FEASIBLE to grind on your own/find people to train together. The contents' the same, people change.
Ok. Well let me just post this as someone who loves MapleRoyals, actually all of the server and all the people here that offer a peaceful and fun place for all. I KNOW it may seem like this when you are starting out. Sometimes it gets really extreme and difficult just to see that yellow experience bar move a little. Quite frankly, the basic progression of MapleRoyals is that you may be killing a monster for some levels and then you go to a new monster. So, if you are killing the same monster too much, just kill it more and you will go to a new monster, problem solved. Additionally, if you ever find yourself really bored, like really bored, I guess you can just change channel. To be honest, I used to find training in the same place really difficult. But, for me, when I change channel it all feels like a fresh start. Once you learn these method and more, your whole perspective can change 360 degrees. You see, MapleRoyals is not really repetitive at all. It's actually quite fun and refreshing.
You should try to explain better what you want developer to tackle. If there are too many people leeching from level 80-135, then you can give some suggestions to improve training locations for that level. For example boost Gobies or Himes spawn rate. Offer new PQs like Dragon Rider and Hoblin (one with following Shammos and killing Rex).
Many of us in this community are stuck in our old ways. Some of the suggestions like Lvl 250 Cap and Equipment Level will probably never see the light of day in Royals due to the mindset of both Staff and the playerbase (including me) not wanting anything too drastically different from the Maplestory we played when growing up. Nevertheless, you've been here for 4 years. Personally, I think you're just burnt out. Hell, I get burnt out if I'm playing a game nonstop for months. Try some other game for awhile to take your mind off of Royals if it feels to repetitive. Maybe try another private server that has the features you want and see if you like it better.
