Character selection = Disconnect

Whenever I double click one of my characters it disconnects me from the login server immediately. This doesn't happen with my VM and everything was working fine when I went to bed last night. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling, and still nothing has changed. What can I do?

Edit: I also tried logging into royals with the other profile on my computer and the same thing happens.

I'm on Windows 8.

 

I run windows 8.1 and I'm suffering from the same issue. Once I double click on my character (or click on the "Select character" button) the game closes down and shows the disconnect message. The same problem occurs on my second account. Creating a new character doesn't help. Reinstalling the game doesn't help. Playing the game in a virtual machine (VMWare workstation 9) helps, since it seems like it's unaffected.
I should also mention that it first showed when I quit the game inside lmpq about an hour ago.

This seems like the situation where your MAC is banned from the server. Ghor, by using VMWare you may be using a different MAC address thus allowing you to play. I will tag some Game Masters to bring this to their immediate attention.

However, if you feel this is a bug; since you play from windows 8, do you run the client in compatibility mode for starters?

I'll check and see if any of these people are banned when I get back home- I'm mobile and going grocery shopping.

If you're using VMware then it sounds like a ban that hasn't expired. I'll check into it when I get home.

@Narutard @Ghor - just checked and there are no bans which might be affecting your accounts. Sometimes Windows 8 can be grumpy about letting people on, and you might have to make several attempts to login. However, as you both have VMware MAC addresses I do wonder if there is an issue related to this.

I resolved the problem by copying over the whole MapleRoyals directory in program files from VM to host.

And to answer some questions; I run mapleroyals in compatibility mode for windows xp sp2, and it has worked for me for several months without any hitches. This is the only time I've had serious trouble running the game. It works fine now without me touching the MAC adress as was suggested.

Edit: Making a VM just to make sure it's not mac address related.

I'll log off for a bit if I need to. I was using my VM with sandboxie on it rather than using the VM as my 'sandboxie'
