So this is more of a selfish request, but I can't be the only person that enjoys reading ban appeals. We used to have likes enabled there, and sometimes video evidence as well that made ban appeals way more interesting than nowadays. Basically I know there has to be some reasonable counter-argument from the staff, but I still wanted to bring this up and ask if the forums community is interested or not.
1. A lot of hackers run their hacks with macro while they don't monitor their screen (which is the purpose of botting, so they don't spend time and effort while lvling). They almost never use a single hack but a combination for efficiency. As staff develop more anti cheats, hackers will strive to figure out which got newly detected and got them banned. Providing evidence will give away this info so it's best not to tell them anything. Some of them tell each other to make a ban appeal just to find out how they got caught. 2. A substantial amount of evidence are filed by casual players, not just staff members. Revealing evidence will defeat the purpose of anonymous reports that protect the identity of reporters.
I get the idea behind this - so people don't learn how they got caught etc, but I think reports should be adjudicated in public as opposed to private. Its entirely possible someone can get framed, evidence is taken out of context (accidentally or maliciously) or a simple mistake is made and private reports only exacerbate this. The ban appeal section seems to just be "what was i banned for" followed by "you were banned for x" and the report is closed. I'd be interested in seeing the system change a bit and perhaps consider pardons from users with low risk bans a second chance. It would be interesting to see recidivism rates on this server On the topic - I think likes were fun but don't really hurt the appeal process much so i'd like seeing them again
Staff don't act on reported people unless they manage to grab a concrete evidence on their hand, whether it was framed or not. They are extremely careful with bans, too careful I'd even say. Chance of getting banned due to a frame report is unimaginably low. People will stop submitting reports if it's exposed to the public as they fear retaliation from the reported people.
There are multiple angles to consider here. From an outside perspective (new user, potential user, etc) our ban appeal system is unjust and unfair. You have little to no information to go off of and everything (including evidence) is completely hidden. How can you possibly defend yourself? What purpose does the ban appeal system have if its only use case is to hopefully have a staff review the ban again you to ensure its placed correctly? I would argue its a waste of our limited staff resources You can expand this to real life applications, imagine a court of law where you have no access to the evidence of the crime you are being accused of, yet, you are sentenced guilty without trial - I think we could do better Also I appreciate what you do and the people you've caught so please don't interpret this negatively, I find it to be an interesting conversation
I would support having Likes on Ban Appeal since it doesn't affect the outcome But it hurt a bunch of peoples feelings according to https://royals.ms/forum/threads/remove-likes-from-ban-appeals.118675/ So I would vote to keep it removed to protect them
Ban appeals were great when someone gave up they just post something funny. So I voted yes (if neutral option is given I would've select that). I think staff members liked each other were the main cause that got it removed in the first place. If likes were to be allowed again, perhaps staff member shouldn't like each other again?
The original argument is that the 'Likes' in Ban Appeal will make the Staff feel more powerful, or to feed their ego So the Likes from Staff or anyone else doesn't matter, it's the number of Likes that's hurting feelings
