Hello everybody, i just wanted to share some information on the topic.
Personally i've been a carnivore for 90% of my life and could've never imagined to make a change. Especially not without having a solid, scientifically supported, undeniable reason to do so.
I wanted to share some of the documentaries and books i've seen and read over the time.

Veganism isn't some propaganda. Nor am i trying to convince anybody about making a change. It's more about looking at the given information and making decision himself with which one can live until end of days

We have all been deceived our whole lifes. It's not just about the animals, or the environment, but also about one's own health.

Don't get poisoned for someone else's profit by exploiting, literally everything.

I'd recommend Dr. Gregers Book "How not to Die" if you are interested in what eggs, milk and animal protein does in your body.

There's a whole lot more on the subject, lots of depth one could discuss and think about. And no, one does not need meat, eggs, dairy or any other stolen thing from an animal to become strong and healthy.

It's number 1 on your list.
I am not searching for people who agree with me on this topic though, an open discussion i'd prefer. I'd rather shed some light on the topic. Personally i wasn't born vegan and "loved" the taste too, but at some point one has to realize that he's been deceived by the industry and advertisements. If you don't want to change - don't change. Nobody is forcing you. Even if just a single person on this forum looks through 1-2 documentaries and reads Greger's book or so and make the decision for himself to change. That's good enough

 

I find this post interesting, thanks for sharing. I have not been a vegetarian most of my life due to convenience and culture but I think it's very much worth critical evaluation.

 

Hello, glad to hear. Even if you don't change anything. Atleast you've grown in knowledge and will as a human make a decision which fits your cognitives.

As said earlier above. It's more about raising awareness. I'd recommend "Food Choices" if you are interested in an overview of the topic.

Okay so- just my 0.02$, you posted a pretty controversial subject and people reacted- albeit a bit harshly, you don't need to go around calling people retarded because they disagree. You both kind of went over the deep end a little- it's possible to have a nice chat about the topic.

So- there's no need to post huge pictures of meat products, and there's no reason to call people nasty names please?

Double edit: Just my opinion- I think strict veganism is a tad over the top. Don't get me wrong, I love a well treated animal as much as the next guy and I could probably become vegetarian tomorrow and not look back, however, I don't think your evidence for eggs being bad is very good (if there's anything substantial?). Some people simply cannot be vegetarian or vegan- you can argue we can replace proteins in meat with complete proteins (rice and beans anyone?) but it's also a lot more volume compared to a small chunk of chicken or a hard boiled egg and rice is fucking awful for diabetics who struggle with blood levels.

Chickens will lay also eggs whether we eat them or not and you can very happily raise chickens without hurting them- likewise with honey which isn't vegan but can be very responsibly harvested from bees (plus we take care of the buzzy bois in the process) and I will argue it's leagues better for you than cane sugar.

So while I agree factory farms and eating a 12oz steak every night is all sorts of mean and bad for you, I don't think all animal products are created equal.

And not only that, the cholesterol , which animal products contain alot of, build socalled "Plaques" in your arteries, those are really sharp and cut open ot some point. Your body sends red blood cells to cover up the wound but stuffs up the artery at the same time -> heart attack

If one doesn't care about the environment, and let's be honest here, the fact that we're living is harmful to the planet already, nor cares about the animals (lack of empathy? Idk), then one should atleast care about oneself

I have the utmost respect for vegetarians and vegans and many of my close friends are “vego”, as I refer to them. However, please don’t promote or act as if it’s the single best thing you can do for your health because an unprepared ‘cold turkey’ approach to veganism can increase the risk of multiple nutritional deficiencies and the complications associated with these.

The majority of research (if not all) on diet and increased incidence and/or prevalence of medical illnesses are based on observational studies because of the technical difficulty in designing high-quality trials in this topic. As a consequence none of these studies prove causality. This is precisely the reason why the medical field have not all come behind this notion of vegetarianism/veganism and encouraged avoiding types of diets universally. We do not currently have the evidence we need to make these recommendations; in order to do so what we need are multiple well designed, double blinded randomised control trials that are then independently analysed, reviewed and published in the form of meta-analysis.

Those are my 2cents in response to a single argument of many that you have presented. I implore that you consider the implications of what you are conveying on a public forum to others and their potential consequences.

 

I personally don’t want to be vegan for life. I can survive eating all greens for 1-2 days but no for 3rd day. I am ok to eat a very small piece of meat or seafood to satisfy my tummy.

Understand that there are substitutes to replace meats. But it is like I eat meats all over my life, I can’t get use to it to survive without meat.

I have friends who are 100% vegans. As Buddism, we also have some days when we cannot have meat. I join vegan days sometimes, just to respect my religion, culture and my friends.

But I have cut down my meat serving since I am growing older and older. This is when I realized health is important which greens help a lot and meat is just a satisfactory thing to my needs. Now I prefer fishes over meat most of the time.

I consider myself to be 90% vegan. This is the guideline I live by:

• I follow the diet motivated, primarily, because of health.
  
• I supplement my meals with vitamins B12 and D. I often check myself at the doc.
  
• I'm a Christian and believe every human deserves the same dignity, thus, I profoundly respect every other diet.
• If you'd ask me to dinner, and you're not vegan, I'm more than happy to share the table with you. Please enjoy your meat, I don't bother!
• I don't try to convince anyone to become vegan, however, I share my opinion whenever I'm asked, politely.
• I'm a people person, not a diet person. You're not what you eat.

it's kind of sarcastic how everybody who has no idea of their own (possible) malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies and general health suddenly becomes a dietary advisor once the term vegan falls.

We do have the evidence that veganism is the only diet to heal and reverse severe diseases and is healthy for all stages of life. we just have to acknowledge them. we didn't have it (acknowledged) due to the industry seeking more money and slowing down the process of the general public realizing that this is the case.
I implore that you consider of what you are conveying on a public forum to others and their potential consequences yourself. Sure building a house without static calculations will eventually break down. Why not make sure that it'll hold then? I'd refer to that as common sense.
You're basically saying do not make a change before we don't know. But there's data lying infront of you, just open your eyes and go through it

im really curious about what nutrients you are talking about. i hope in 10-20 years we all can look back and ask ourselves how we didn't realize it earlier, no no, acknowledge earlier that eating animal products are the same as smoking, or even worse. For our children too, not just for us "adults".

the safest way of evaluating data is looking at scientific studies that are not financially supported by the food industry. those scientists shouldn't actually be called scientists for twisting data just to make some $.

Am I the only one that legit don't care what im eating, and what other ppl are eating at all? You can serve me meat, you can serve me vegan food, you can serve me food made of your feces, as long as it satisfies my body's needs and it tastes good, I legit don't give a dam what it is or where it came from
