I just wanted to ask you guys on what is the general consensus on what is a kill steal or frowned upon actions when competing for area boss kills. Last time I generally asked people, the response was "First come first serve". But as I encountered some competitors, there seem to be some gray areas. I will just say player 1 is "1" and player 2 is "2". Example 1) 1 & 2 arrive at the map simultaneously but 1 attacks the boss first but 2 kills the boss with overwhelming damage. I believe this is kill steal because 1 attacked the boss first. But I am asking you guys for clarification because nobody has map ownership. Example 2) 1 arrived at the map first and killed 1~2 small monsters to spawn the area boss. 2 arrived at the map 2 seconds later and kills the spawned boss (1 did not hit the boss at all but saw that the boss spawned). I am guessing this is not kill steal because I think you don't get map ownership by just killing 1~2 monsters in that map. Not sure if this is a frowned upon action or just fair competition though.
I think As long as 1 has proof of map ownership. Any mobs that come out in the map belongs to player 1, not player 2.
It was my understanding that you do not get map ownership by just killing 1 or 2 monsters in the map. Am I mistaken?
In both scenarios, player 1 have the map ownership. Just type ~mapowner and start recording. Player 2 will get ban if player2 consistently attack the boss/mobs after a proper warning Kill-stealing - The act of attacking bosses or monsters on a map persistently without the system designation of ownership via the /mapowner in-game command, or alternatively last-hitting any bosses or monsters on a map without that same designation, without the expressed permission of the player who does have that designation. Punishment: First offense - 3 day ban, Second offense - 7 day ban, Third offense - Permanent ban.
It's good to check mapowner. I am not too sure if you get a priority of map ownership for killing 1 or 2
I believe in this server, as others have mentioned here above, mapownership is what determines whether you are kill stealing or not. As unfair it might seem, who ever gets to be the mapowner first, owns the property, thus also the boss that spawns there. It may seem tedious (I so far haven't done that), but recording your boss fights is a good idea in this case. If you own the map, the boss should be yours.
As long as dealt damage = obtain map ownership So is indeed first come first serve, by dealing damage
