Allowing this quest line to be repeated every 10 levels from lv120 will allow players to reach hp requirements for bosses with less washing, while still keeping the amount of progression possible from these quests at a reasonable level. It will also add more of a reward for hitting each 10 level milestone past 120. Non-warriors would be able to get a total of 2.5k extra hp from the quests at lv150 and 5k at lv200. The cost would be similar to buying AP resets, but it would greatly reduce the stress of needing to hit certain int thresholds by certain levels.

The items required for the quests could also be adjusted to higher level mobs as the level of the quest increases, using ToT etc. items, for example.

The hp questline should've been repeatable in the first place.
I don't understand why hp washing is an actual thing on Royals. How much nostalgia is it to leech an archer with full int to 140? or this is actually fun and i'm missing the point?

Maybe even alter the questline to like killing zakum, pap or other indoor bosses (that don't require a lot of hp), something that doesn't force you to have a mage.

The fact that this hasnt and probably wont be implemented is one of the main reasons why there is still competition with other “nostalgic” pservers. Definitely why a good percentage of the new players due to quarantine will quit, after they realise they didnt wash until its too late.

its not like new players will do end game content any time soon anyways.(at least half a year without mage character) plus finding a drk friend is easy

Personally I support this idea. As we're currently fully hands-on for update 65, we won't have much time to discuss such QoL changes. But, I've already pinged staff about it and some have given their support as well. I'll try to move the discussion forward after update 65.

As for now, it'd be good if the community can help us assess the possible ways of removing the limit. E.g., should it be repeatable every X level? What items are needed? etc. Ideally, it should get more difficult, the more times you complete the quest.

I’m really happy to see this be considered. I think it’s nice this gives certain etc items a market, so maybe adding increased amounts of current etc items or adding a new etc item for each completion.

Every 10 levels sounds fair, alternatively maybe once a week or month to reward consistent players.

Would love to hear from players who’ve completed the quest about requirements for each completion.

should it be a different set of etc items each time with the possible goal on encouraging players to travel around less visited content?

should it be increased amounts of the existing items?

If you boss with HB you don't need to HP wash at all.

Edit: I'm not saying this for or against anything, just that truly, nostalgic means bossing with HB and HP equips, and the reality is HP washing was possible back in OG maple too, it was just cost prohibitive where here, it isn't because of voting for NX.

HB is not very reliable, with dispels and disconnects/crashes, furthermore Maple isn't mean to be played the way we do on Royals, I could probably write a book about the things that aren't nostalgic here but let's not do that ^_^'.

This does not mean this feature could not be accomplished without keeping it "fair, balanced" or maybe even call it "nostalgic".
Like ranged having just a little over 19k (to survive pink bean magic dmg, which is highest I believe?)
Melee sitting at 30k because they risk the most by getting up close & touch dmg being really high.

This would represent a far more "nostalgic" server, rather than half of the server rich 30k HP NL's and the other half glass cannons.
In addition this quest could require you to kill all previous bosses before Pink Bean in order to get 19-20k hp.

I think this would feel a lot more like character progress & development rather than spending billions on washing and leeching, sitting on a rope?

Ofcourse I do realize that it's way too late for this because we already have ranged players sitting at 30k, but a change would be kind for newcomers not having to go thro WashStory in order to play MapleStory.

But well, that's just, like, my opinion, man. :D

    It doesn't change anything though.

It's not reliable because people don't want to use HB- but it's still there, you don't need to wash (DC issues were a problem on old maple too so its a bit of a moot point). To be completely transparent, I'd be for removing HP washing entirely, and the myriad of items with HP we've added and the HP quest before making it so you could keep redoing it.

A lot of what youre saying tho is no fault to HP washing anyways- "feel a lot more like character progression" and "Newcomers not having to go thro WashStory". People need to get out of the mindset that they HAVE to HP wash, and if they can't the server needs to give them an alternative or it's unfair/broken/glitched. If the quest was made repeatable- I'd be in strong favor of making it incredibly hard, tedious, and boring. It shouldn't be a reward for not wanting to HP wash and not wanting to play with HB/HP items. It should take just as long, if not longer, than conventional methods of gaining HP. Which, IMO, circles around to defeat the purpose. We should encourage people to not wash at all.

Whether old maple had dc's or not, HB being dispellable and having those crashes/dc's DOES still make it unreliable.

Don't get me wrong, I think washing and hp quests are complete ****, since we have both here I elaborated on those. I believe we should all have base hp enough to kill any boss, but only with HB.

HB becoming immune for dispels & fixing crashes or allowing to relog into a raid would be a solution.

edit: tbh maple has many shortages, in order to fix those one would have to go thro a lot, then again it will no longer be "nostalgic"

I would personally like to see some variations of this idea being implemented. However, like in many previous discussions [1][2] and not only in this one, we need to do this tactfully, so players who want to play Dark Knight for their unique Hyper Body skill won't be further shunned, players who had or currently trying to HP washing can still feel rewarded for their greater level of commitment towards the game.

So here is what I will suggest, the quests should appear a few levels after the minimum viable level to fight a boss. Example: level 155 to fight Horntail, quests should appear at level 175, even with the increased HP, players still do not have enough HP, they need both a little more HP washing and/or HP gears.

    Proposed

    1. Spring of Water
    Minimum level: 70
    Rewards:
    • Warriors can receive 1,000 HP from the whole series. (Buccanners should be here)
    • Beginners/Thieves/Archers/Gunslinger can receive 500 HP from the whole series.

    2. You deserve a break! NEW!
    Minimum level: 145
Targetted Bosses: Scarlion / Targa (9k)

    Pre-requiste:
    • El Nath Mts. Explorer Medal
    • Victoria Island Explorer Medal
    • Ludus Lake Explorer Medal
    • Complete Korean Folk Town Questline
    • 300 Stone Golem Rubble in the inventory
    Task/s:
    • Enter Showa Town Spa
    • Kill 500 Red Slimes
    Rewards:
    • Warriors and Bucanners can receive 1,000 HP.
    • Beginners/Thieves/Archers/Gunslinger can receive 500 HP.

    3. Horntail's Strength Training
    Minimum level: 175
    Targetted Bosses: Horntail (10k)

    Pre-requiste:
    • Minar Forest Explorer Medal
    • Monster Riding Skill
    Task/s:
    • Collect 5 Lightning Earrings
    • Collect 50 Power Crystal
    • Collect 50 Garnet
    • Collect 15 Gatekeeper's Shoulder Band
    • Defeat 300 Dragon Turtle
    Rewards:
Warriors and Bucanners can receive 1,000 HP.
    Beginners/Thieves/Archers/Gunslinger can receive 500 HP

To sum up, this is just a rough idea... Basically the new HP quests should force players to explore more of the world, grind more monsters instead of being farmable and collecting currently worthless ETC items (Opal Ore, Taru Feather, Bosshunter Gear and even consider crafting low demand iTCG items.)

The point is in the exchange of skipping the tedious, lack of exploration and ''interaction'' of the game, which is a common argument against HP washing, players are expected to do HP quests that are oriented to exploration, grinding and completing more existing quests.

Lastly, the quests preferably be open a few levels after the lowest minimum levels.
    Example:

    Horntail
HP washers can join expeditions at level 155
Non-HP washed range classes can join the expedition at level 175 (Provide they have enough HP gears and done the HP quests)

    Current HP gears:
Medals: Master Adventurers (+200 HP), Ergoth Bane (+500 HP)
    Cape: Blackfist Cloak (+120 HP)
Necklace: Mark of Naricain (+250 HP)
Belts: Black Dojo Belt (+300 HP), Blue Dojo Belt (+150 HP)

We should consider expanding this lineup too, maybe a nerfed version of Stormcaster Gloves (+2 WA) for Archers/Gunslinger that you can enquire at level 145+ that gives +500 HP

    Buff Dragon Knights! F5

There's still over a dozen other bosses, and yeah- it'll be difficult/near impossible maybe. Is that really a bad thing? End game bosses should be hard.

The thing with making HB immune to dispel though is bishops with magic guard.
We could argue and say “if HB is immune then how come magic guard isn’t?” Perhaps you should start a community poll and gather some feedback regarding making HB immune to dispel :)

    1) going by the 9k for scar/targa, any level 135 character at 4th job (nl/bm/mm/shad/sair/bucc/warriors) can do them with hb* (drk might hv trouble zerking but tats a seperate issue for now) Note: scar/targa does not dispel

    2) u would be short abt 2.2k hp* for ht

    3) based on previous discussion here people seem to want to do toad too. tat requires ~16.5k hp. if there is hb, u only need abt 10.4k*. Toad does not dispel.

    4) instead of hb being immune to dispel, just have enough hp for the bosses which dispel. which is ht. u nid 10k for that. simple solution. yes, other bosses like shao/toad need more hp, being 12k/16.5k but they dont dispel. u can bring a hb mule for them. toad doesnt have a levl requirement so u can bring in a low lvl hb mule. for shao most simple way is to boss with a drk or find a friend who has a hb mule they can bring in

    5) regarding dcs. if people can "fail" boss runs due to se dc in a party filled with nl, then i think its reasonable to have boss runs fail due to hb dc. its not a good idea to give more hp just solely because dcs are a thing.

    6) think the best hp to push unwashed up to is either 10k or 10.4k* hp so that they meet the minimum hp requirement for toad with hb or ht without hb. oh ya tats not including the natural excess mp u get which u can use to wash up a bit more as well. for melee, i think hero/pally is fine as it is. for drk, i would actually suggest making it a completely playable class without washing, meaning 18750 hp attainable without washing, but only when its at a high enough level. perhaps 175/185 would be appropriate

oh ya. btw, arguing that u have difficulty finding drk friends would be kinda dumb. u can do pqs and ur favorite low lvl content so im sure u wld hv met a couple of up and coming drks along the way now tat u're not leeching the whole way up with 600 base int n mp washing every lvl :)

*hp from gear is included. the ones i used for calculation were 120 from bfc, 300 from black belt, 500 from the existing hp quest and 500 from ergoth's bane

Hear, hear. I'd also like to point out that doing this would create a much bigger grinding party/PQ community in the server, which was in my opinion, one of the best parts of Maple (and frankly what the game is *supposed* to be pre-level 135). I recently returned to royals after about five years, and created a night lord. The stress, mesos, and leeching required to wash it to just 9k hp definitely got in the way of enjoying the nostalgia. Hp washing seems to me like a broken game mechanic or something designed by Nexon to squeeze money out of its players, neither of which should have any place here.

As someone who just started the server a month ago and realized my level 122 character has been basically locked out of endgame bossing without washing (as a corsair!), this idea would be comforting to know that I wouldn't have to create a new, solely dedicated class just to fund myself in order to actually properly play my class with the right HP requirements. I joined the server with friends initially to just play for fun and nostalgia, but realizing after reading through lots of hp washing threads, class guides that recommend washing, and advice in people from game that I need to, I've been basically dejected that I would have to restart all over again. I, and a lot of other people (my friends included!) would definitely support something like this to be an alternative questline to washing, putting the same amount of time and mesos into it as people who wash.

It's definitely not comfortable to realize that if I hadn't read through the forums, I'd unknowingly be locked out of content like HT, The Boss (arguable), but most recently and especially, Auf Haven - HP requirements for parties and all that.

On a separate note, it almost feels misleading at this point that the server is tagged "HP Washing Optional" when most people realize, it really isn't...

It's good that you read through the forum but it seems like you encountered only the negative flaw.

I'll explain why royals says "HP Washing Optional"

Unwashed Corsair at lvl 155 has 5838 average HP according to Shiyui's HP chart.
With HP quests +500 HP, you'll have 6338 HP.

Equips can give you 1000+ HP if you work on them.

    300 HP from Black Belt
500 HP from Ergoth Bane medal
    ~250 HP from rings
~110 HP from Black Fist Cloak

So that'll give 7300HP at the minimum if you acquired most of them.

HB multiplies your current HP and MP by 1.6x.

    7300 HP x 1.6 = 11680 HP

The highest ranged dmg you can receive from HT is about 9800.

Hence, you will be able to survive in HT with a Drk friend.

The Boss hits tons of dmg if you are making physical contact or go too near but as a ranged attacker, unwashed Corsair can take part in the raid, provided the party knows how to pin etc.

Auf Haven has 25k+ "touch damage" but the whole point of that boss is not for ranged attackers to kiss it upfront but rather kite from a distance and at a good angle. Highest magic damage from Auf Haven is around 10k. You will be able to participate with HB at lvl 175 as long as good party members accompany you.

The only exceptions are Toad and Shaolin that require HP washing. Royals lore says they were meant to be tackled by melee tank classes but I guess a touch on their extreme dmg would be nice to allow unwashed ranged classes to attempt them.

To sum it up, a lot of changes were made in this server to accommodate unwashed players so they can enjoy 95%+ of the late-game content. However, it's the aging of the server that caused power creep along with the tremendous contribution of cheaters that make HP washing seem like a norm and overwhelming to newbies. There's a clear distinction between the inconvenience of finding HB and HP gear vs being locked out of contents with no solution. This inconvenience can be mostly resolved if you find good buddies or guild to boss with. If your definition of "actually properly play" is playing with utter convenience and near 0 risk, it's not something this server should offer on basic terms but what you as an individual player should work extra for, in my opinion.

I'm around to help with Corsair guides or boss experiences if you need help as an unwashed player. Don't be too discouraged just because others pressure you about HP washing.
