I've been trying hard to look this up, but it's hard without a proper forum search, even with googling site-specific threads. Earlier threads (2016 and down) say that swords beat axes all across the board, which is why I haven't made a Fighter yet. I've noticed some balancing changes specific to MapleRoyals, which I assume means the server tried to balance out axes, but can't fight any threads or questions regarding the matter. Is it true? can a Fighter use an axe now and not be inferior? (I'm not necessarily aiming for late-game)
I'll let the more experienced players give you in detailed explanation. But from what I recall, swords were still the main choice due to it's easier availability in-game since it's longer usage. Finding a perfect end game axe might be a bit of a challenge but decent Flame Swords, ST, Dragon Carabella etc pop up every now and then. Having said that, some players still go ahead and pick a weapon they like due to the looks. I personally like some of the single and double-handed blunt weapons. Smexy!
I see you're using a one-handed axe, didn't even consider that (I wanted to do a two-handed one), are you getting higher attack from a scrolled shield? Well, availability is something I won't care much about, so that's a relief, the axes are very much a style-related choice for me as well, I just don't want to feel like I'm sacrificing a ton of damage and making myself feel stupid for choosing to be weaker It's one thing to be weaker for choosing a certain class, it's another to be weaker just because I won't equip a stronger weapon that's sitting in my inventory, it's a feeling you can't shake =(
I hear ya. When I was playing MapleSEA, we had a guild for bow and xbow users. Most of them chose bows not because it dealt higher damage, but the annoying fact that xbows blocked your character!!! Hahahaa. Good times. Oh yeah, with regards to the 1H vs 2H, the argument is, it's probably cheaper to go 2H since you only need a perfect (scrolled) weapon and not a 1H perfect weapon + a decently scrolled Weapon Attack shield.
Perfect axe warrior progressing, will finish it in 20 days. Time to see some 100k dmg brandish. p.s. Swords sux, nearly impossible to reach 100k from brandish, unless all equips are godly.
Axe has the potential to see bigger numbers from brandish but will never come close to the DPS of ST.
I mean, srsly, it wasn't hard to perform 100k brandish, doesn't even need godly gear But ye, axe-hero is a rare kind, worth to play somehow.
Not hard? Then why can't I see 100k dmg brandish everywhere? I mean I nearly never meet a hero hitting 100k with swords, or they must use the apple or gelt to barely reach it, with crit. Seems like you have rich friends around!
Hardly to reach 100k with gelt... time to upgrade my other gears and gain more levels (range is 9191 without mw btw).
