Character name: Dizknee Last thing you did: leeching a friend at wolf spiders Why do you think you got banned? I think this was an accident since I do not use any third party programs or hack (or even attempt to) Ban message: your account has been blocked for hacking or illegal use of third-party programs. You can log in after apr/13/2020 10:45am I'm not worried or upset, just curious to what this is about. It's all good if I have to wait this out, but I am curious about 2 things 1. Did I actually do something wrong? (was this a mistake or do I need to change a behavior) 2. Why is being caught for "hacking or illegal use of third party programs" only a 2 day ban? Hacking is a serious offence in my opinion and I would assume it would constitute a permanent ban
I'm not exactly sure what a third party tool is. I have 2 screens, usually I'll have discord open, youtube, class work, microsoft word, and sometimes I open league of legends and stay in maplestory until I've queued up for the game. I watched this movie called "killer klowns from outterspace" I'm not sure if it was legal since I found it online for free. I'm not sure why, but a few days ago all the icons on my desktop moved around. If there's a way to check all the programs that I've ran on my computer in the last few days or so I'd be happy to open that up and screenshot the log to you
Oh and cisco webex meetings is always running for my online school lectures, but I figure school stuff wouldn't be the cause. *edit* after looking through my background processes on the task managers I remembered that I also have the radeon relive software to capture the last 30 seconds of my screen, and steam, so that's for sure running in the back. The only suspicious looking background process I can think of is this one called "windows host process (Rundll32) and it looks suspicious because it has an icon that doesn't look like any of the others
Okay, should be fine then. However, you were also banned for 3 days for harassing another player after they took your skele map and got mapowner.
That I understand, and while I was in violation of the server rules, I hope this sheds light on the actual situation: I have tried leeching my friend at skeles multiple times throughout the passed few weeks of quarantine, but with the 25% extra exp rates I am sure you are aware that finding a map to leech at is rough. So I go through the channels asking people when they will leave, and I wait patiently for a map. **Meanwhile I noticed you have this ~mapowner system (which is a fair idea, but rather overly strict of a time frame to allow a needed afk) that allows the map owner to be removed from the owner after only 3 minutes of being afk. As a future dentist, I make sure to brush for at least 2 minutes at a time, and as a regular human it takes me about 3 or more minutes to use the bathroom, and about 3 or more minutes to get a snack and/or drink, so personally I think 3 minutes is too demanding and unhealthy to force on an individual that is trying to leech a friend or buyer. I strongly believe it should either be 10 minutes as long as the character is still in the map after that time, or 5 minutes when the character has left the map. This would create a culture in the community where people are comfortable with attacking in an empty map that is owned by someone else, and giving the map back with no hard feelings if the owner returns before map ownership is gone.** I went to the bathroom, and when I came back I approached the 3 minute mark as I was buffing my friend. As I was buffing my friend a person stole my map and said "mine now, I ss-ed and will report you, leave" This is not the first time this has happened, even after I explain that I was just using the bathroom they do not care, feel no sympathy, and say "enjoy your ban." Frustrating to say the least, this is clearly rude (in my opinion) and his behavior is being supported, which is why the community commonly treats each other without respect when it comes to ksing. I lost my cool, since this has happened at least 5+ times in the passed few days, and nobody has ever said anything close to "oh sorry, you can have the map back." It is wrong of me to use profane language and get upset, but the language does not actually cause harm or anger people like stealing a map does, so it appeared to be an appropriate response in the moment, as there is nothing else I could do with him being the mapowner. The only other option I felt like I had was to say "ok you are in the right, I will leave" which does not seem like something anyone in my position would do. I talked about the 3 minute rule to many people and everyone that I talked to at least agreed that it should be at least a 5 minute rule, so this was my behavior towards injustice. -And lets not forget that the screenshot is of the one and only attack I used in attempts to secure map ownership again So now if this happens again my response will be: ??????????? (I'd like to say this won't happen again, but it's hard to say how you will act when you feel like you've been wronged and that the system is supporting rude/unethical behavior) Please help, as I am sure this is not only a problem for me, but others as well that do not use a laptop
These are the rules that you agreed upon when signing up and when signing into your account for the first time. If you have feedback, I urge you to make a post in the feedback thread and you can get even more community input from there. Also: Words can offend people and he felt attacked (I've seen the screenshots and it was uncalled for). You will have to serve this ban and in the future, all you have to do is attack a mob once to maintain map ownership. Brush, cast a gene, wash hands/shave/etc., cast gene, grab a snack, gene. I personally just don't care that much and if I have stuff to take care of IRL I go do that and leave the map open for someone else, however, that's just my opinion and I know that a lot of players do as I stated above and come and attack periodically to maintain ownership.
I would like to be clear on a few points: 1. we both agree that my response was uncalled for and inappropriate 2. he wasn't the only one that felt attacked and harassed, he stole my map, and was blunt and cold to me (so I doubt he actually felt attacked, or was upset by my words, he was actually happy to see me produce evidence for a ban) 3. the term "defense mechanism" describes my verbal abuse, so even though he felt attacked, it was in self defense 4. it is fine that you do not care, but I do, so I'd like to be treated like you do care 5. my bathroom is across the house, and I would not like to run back and forth to secure the map, and even so, how am I expected to go #2 and keep a map? 6. I would still like to know why hacking constitutes a temporary 2 day ban, and since we did not resolve the reason why I was banned for use of a third party software, I am worried that it will happen again (because I haven't discovered the source, and therefore cannot prevent it from happening again) 7. happy easter!
*I'll try to make a thread about changing the ~mapowner status, but it will have to wait until tomorrow at least*
This is a personal opinion I put at the end of my reply to give you an idea of how others feel on the server, it's in relation to owning a map, not to your appeal so please don't misunderstand that point. Hacking is a permanent ban and you are likely just getting the wrong pop up message (it's also a 3-day ban, not a 2-day). He reported you and his report fit every single criteria we had to ban for harassment, I'm sorry but that won't change regardless of how you felt during the time. The ban still stands. And happy Easter to you as well!
I understand, I misunderstood because you said "and" which implied to me that you were making a separate point. Thank you for clarifying about the third party software situation. I will wait out the ban, and this will be my last comment. *ethical thought* I couldn't report him for harassment because he technically did not break rules, but if you were allowed to use your own judgement on the matter of map stealing and deciding if I (just me and not the other person that was involved) should be banned, (without being bound to the rule book) what would you have done? ~Thank you for you treating me respectfully and with professionalism~
I don't know if I can answer that question without showing bias towards the situation so I'm gonna opt to not answer haha, sorry! And of course, I genuinely care about our players and their ban appeals (unless it's just full of lies)
