So a lot of people are against selling maps but all they do is harass the people selling maps. One time i gave my map for free some the guy that took over immediately sold my map once he got ownership of it that's why i started selling maps too. So stop harassing map sellers we paid the same amount to get the map and just want our money back If you guys really want map selling to stop please make a petition for it and get a gm to ban it instead of pming people who sell maps. Don't hate the player hate the game.
I wonder, if you are selling the map doesn't that mean you were about to leave anyway? Can someone else just wait for you to leave? Or do you stay there wasting your own time until someone buys the map so you can leave? Seems like a waste of time. I say we get rid of the map ownership bs already.
So i Contemplated before deciding to leave my two-cents... It's a simple case of demand and supply. The last time I was active (2014-2016) there was no such thing as buying and selling of maps. When did this start and how did it escalate to being a norm? Someone must have started it, and buyers kept this market up by paying for these maps. I agree with Xalaux that if you're going to leave the map anyway, why should anyone have the right to charge anyone else for it? If someone took the map I gave free-of-charge and ended up selling it, I'll simply call him out on the forums or via smegas. I don't hate on people who sell maps - I choose to give kudos to those who graciously let it go to someone else who needs it. That said, I'm sorry you got harassed by other players - that's not cool of them at all. Personally I would surf channels to the death or just chill in the FM if I can't find a map, but if the moment ever comes where I'm desperate enough to buy one for whatever reason, I know I won't sell it away when I'm done. I'll just give it away or simply leave. This 10-15 million "loss" in mesos is something I can live with - but that's just how I roll
I think back then there was never such a high influx of players, so it wasnt as "hard" to find an open channel. Right now with the pandemic going on, you have like 2x or 3x the amount of players online that there used to be, so maps will get full quicker, and thus ppl resort to this shenanigans. Personally i dont hate players who sell maps, do what you want youre not "breaking" any rules. Personally, i have bought a few times, and have resold a map 0 times. Just like you, its just how i roll idc bout the 10-15m i spent to buy it. Dont get me wrong i tried once or twice to sell a map, and it was too much of a hassle and wasting my time waiting til the player gets his map, i get places to be i rather just leave lol ya nope. this is the only thing that holds shit together, there would be so much ks-ing and map stealing otherwise i feel it would make the game less fun to play
I don't know how much GMS (or EMS, or whatever) you played, but there was no mapowner and that did jack shit to prevent selling maps. Any time there was a 2x event and the servers swelled, there would be armies of guilds holding maps both for personal use and to sell- Skeles and newts mostly as they were the top maps to grind on. In addition to all that headache, it did nothing to stop huge dick swinging KSing wars, so half the time no one got to train. Completely ignoring the little guys without big guilds who managed to get a map but lost it because there was absolutely nothing they could do. At least here, if you have a map and you use it, it's yours. We also have comparatively far fewer players and more end-game maps to grind on. People need to just chillax and realize they can go someplace other than Ulu.
There is a small inherent amount of scummy activity that you're just going to have to deal with. Royals already has a very comprehensive ToS that they enforce very seriously and a community blacklist to boot, but you can't make a rule against every single thing (fm spot stealing, map sniping/selling, etc). ~mapowner fixes waaaay more problems than it creates and its not going away.
~mapowner is one of the best things that has happened, really. Otherwise some poor solo guy is just going to get bullied by a guild/group/higher-level player. Meanwhile I'm just sitting here waiting for the return of FM button lol
Make the last 5 channels have no map owner so people can have is wars. Maple is fun with chaos sometimes.
Just want to voice out my worthless two cents - I believe Map Selling is good. Sellers get to earn & buyers get to save time. Of course if you're kind hearted or about to leave anyways, helping out a fellow Mapler by giving it up to them is more than welcomed. But take everything with a pinch of salt, the only reason why you need to buy a map now is due to the large surge in population due to the ongoing Covid19. Things will be back to normal when all dies down. There wont be any supply if theres no demand...
I have not come across anyone camping there and selling just for the sake of 10-20m mesos. But even if there are people like this, what can you do? Buy over and save time? Or surf around for a free map. The choice is yours.
People sold maps in old source too, mainly skeles and GS2. You'd get defamed just for trying to get mapowner in GS2 lol. I can't really see a good way around it.

I did yesterday. I was surfing through the channels and I landed in a channel where there was just one F/P mage. I sat there for about 2 minutes bc I went to the bathroom and when I came back I saw that he asked me if I would like to buy the map from him while i was gone. He could have just left bc he wasn't leeching anyone but it seems like he was waiting for someone to come by so he could sell the map.
Well then, fine - He had nothing better to do. But ultimately you have three options then. 1) Buy the map, continue with your training and save your time 2) Surf around for a vacant map that you can use 3) Hang around with him to see who has more time to waste to take over that particular map Personally for me, i’d try to find a vacant map however as i’ve mentioned, there is a drastic surge of population and thus its sometimes really hard to find a map. Therefore in order to save time, if im unable to find a vacant map i’ll just buy it from him and carry on with whatever i have to do. Yes there is sure to be a tinge of sourness that i have to part with my beloved mesos for a map however you have to choose which is more of value to you - 20m or your time. End of the day, to each his own. Choice is yours.
When I join a map and they ask me if i want to buy it. I just say no. And wait. They will leave because they needed to leave.
I'm curious if the people against map selling are also against fm spot selling? It is relatively the same concept. You don't need the spot, but you will just block others from using it until you get paid for it instead of just walking away.
