Okay so, some of you may have heard we are trying to implement a new world with a lower exp rate as some people are disappointed that their MapleRoyals experience is coming (or has come) to an end so quickly.

The plan was to possibly open a new world on the same server with lower rates, however this is very problematic with the way the world/channel servers are set up. Mainly something called the Java RMI system.

So it is either going to be impossible or take quite a long time to figure out how to get 2 worlds working successfully with different EXP rates. I don't even know for sure if this would be a good idea or not for the community itself.

So I'd just like to try and get some of your thoughts on what should be done here. Do most of you just like it the way it is? Do you think it would be a good idea to have another world with lower rates? Or would that affect the community in too much of a negative way? And I hate to say this... But what about a complete server wipe and exp rate change?

I don't want people to freak out because I mentioned the word wipe. I just want to get peoples opinions...

    Thank you for reading...

    Hi Matt.
First of all, it sounds like a great idea to have 2 worlds with 2 different exp rate.

But however for me, I think The MapleRoyal we got now is perfect.

    And as you said.
Might be some problems, and about the community I don't think it will destroy it or anything.

    About the wipe.
Not a good idea, since I've experience a lot of servers that have done that.
And they basically lost like 30 - 50% of their so called "loyal players".

    Just saying my opinion here.

    I hope this helped a bit :D

I look forward to see what happens about this :p

I don't think either of the ideas is good.
So what if people got to level 200? for me x10 exp is the hardest gameplay I've ever experinced. and I'm defentley not looking for harder one.
and after all this time and work that people put into the game and thier characters, I'm sure no one wants a wipe! after all this hard work? why?

and besides that, the server is so succsesful , and just like you said on changing a version , why would you change the version if the server is succesfull and everyone's having fun playing the server?

And about a new world , basiclly same opinion as a wipe and also I think it will split our community which isn't THAT big anywayz , some people will go to the new world and some will stay so if you ask me it's just a bad idea.
Also there're so many bugs right now and another server will just cause more bugs and problems.

I like mapleroyals the way it is, and even if I got to level 200 it doesn't mean that I'm just gonna quit so quickly.

World wipe isnt that bad of an idea, seeing as all the changes that happened with gacha and stuff, makes new players trashy compared to us other players who were here gaching 5,6chaos and whitescrolls a day. another world with lower rates, could also work, as 10x is pretty high.

I dont know what point opening a new world would have if its gonna be the exact same thing but just with lower rates.. still nothing to do (except for level to a dead end)(again)

atleast nexon got one thing right with their new versions of maplestory, you'll always have something to do there, so much content..
if we would patch to v83 or have more highlvl (custom) content i think it would make a huge difference, didnt I see the field of judgement NPC in here somewhere? thats a good idea to start with, it gives us something to do

Hmm, I think a complete whipe wouldn't be that bad, because of all those gacha changes mentioned before. But if you guys make a complete whipe, I have to agree with Kingpin that we need more custom content, or update the Server.
I dun like the new jobs, because they are to OP, but what about adding a few high lvl maps or stuff like that to make it more interesting, to give us more options where to grind, to give us more fun.
I'd like to see more PQ's which are worth to spent there time at. I'd like to see working HT and stuff like that too and the most important thing I'd like to see is some custom content.

Right now I see this server as server where you can grind all day and do nothing else. Like I said, I'd love to see custom content and some alternatives where to grind, gain EXP, or gain Items.

About lowering the rates, I dun think that it's necessary because we have a nice speed of lvling right now, but you guys could reduce the monster amount on certain maps, because the maps are way too crowded which makes it way to easy for jobs like a Bishop e.g.

Personally I wouldn't like a complete wipe. I've been spending time getting where I am now, and to start over would (personally) ruin the experience I have.
A second server will lower rates might be a good idea, but as Kingpin said, there wouldn't be any changes apart from more leveling again.

The answer to all of this: fix pq's (so we at least have something new to do), level 120 - 200 custom content (bosses, custom pq's, custom mobs), custom quests?.
I know custom content is quite a lot of work, but I think you will gain everyones respect by doing so. ;)

I'm not sure how I feel about a second world with lower experience rates, nor how it would affect the community. I half-wonder if a new world with the same rates but a different party experience formula to discourage leeching might work better in terms of giving a fuller, more challenging and longer-lasting nostalgic experience. However, I also suspect that this might not be a very popular idea and that those who might enjoy something like this are not necessarily the ones who feel they've already achieved everything on this server.

As for a world wipe - I can see that this would level the playing field, but personally, as someone who has worked slowly but steadily at getting stuff my characters will need, and who has a long way to go, I would find it very demotivating.

Exactly my thoughts. We just need high lvl content AND remove the dependence of a bishop to make money so people can actually play with its main and have a better gaming experience. (Train at skeles with my bishop makes me sleepy :x)

0.62 is amazing old school experience but as some one said already it lacks end game content...and since wz edits are too risky the only way to go is to update imo...0.83 sounds good but it will need some balancing i guess...i personaly would love the update, but at same time there is a lot of ppl that will hate it...but i doubt that there is any solution that satisfy everyone :( there will be always some one pissed -_-

Personally, i'm disappointed that my mapleroyals experience has come to an end so quickly (only took me 2 months to hit level 200).

When i remember EMS around v62, i played for about 2 years and only hit level 160, so frankly, i would love another v62 server (since i love v62) with a lower exp rate! (hopefully 4x).

The 10x could be left open for more casual players and the 4x server for more competitive servers, so you could switch between the two depending on your mood!

I think a 4x server would be a good idea, because
    1) we could attract competitive players from noblestory/classic/nightsoul
    2) things to do when bored / no competition
    3) clean slate, everyone starts from the beginning - since too many people have a unfair advantage from pre-gacha and we can fix the bishop dependancy problem.
    4) more nostalgic

However, IF we did implement a 4x server there would have to be changes to make the server HARDER.
(4x would also decrease bishops-self leech, since people wouldn't want to leech their second character on such a low rate)

It's too late to remove the bishop dependancy problem since too many already have had an unfair advantage.

People think this will split our community, we have about 100 active players (decreasing due to boredom)
50 on each server would still be great, and we would attract MORE PEOPLE!

& like matt said, this will take a while, so maybe best to implement it during thanksgiving/christmas when more people start to play again?

Maybe I'm unusual, but I'm finding the experience rates to be just about right. Obviously don't want them as slow as global, but don't want them as fast as classic v62 servers used to be. 50x is insane, and it's no wonder they had to introduce rebirths and/or wipe every couple of months to keep people interested.

So as far as a second server goes, I don't really see the value in it, and I think you would end up with little or no people playing on it, since people go where there are people generally speaking. Splitting up the population when we already struggle to make parties would kind of suck.

And a wipe would totally take the wind out of my happy little sails. I've only just now gotten to where I feel like I'm making some decent progress on my royals "career" and I've been here a little more than a month.

If people are bored and wanting a wipe, it's really unfair to new players to wipe everything so that those bored people can be happier. Why not offer old players the chance to wipe their accounts on an individual basis, with the option to transfer up to 10m from their old assets to their first new character?

And maybe lower the exp rate on the current server to 5x. It would be slightly faster than training with a 2x exp card during a 2x event on global.

I think I'd only contemplate playing on the lower experience world if the party exp formula *on that world* was changed to pretty much eradicate leech without nerfing bishops.

For me, there wouldn't be any point in just a slow-mo duplicate of the current world, but there would be a point in a world where people actually have to play their characters and grind/pq with them rather than just hanging off a rope in GS2/Skeles/wherever.

A world like that wouldn't have the current Bishop overload, either, as not everybody's prepared to grind a Priest from lvl 9x-120.

Anyway, just my thoughts on the subject.

I've alot (and I mean alot) of experience with low-rate servers, and every time there is a wipe (or a change of exp) the community is split up and a portion of the players quit. This is true for all versions (perhaps less with Big-Bang due to easier gameplay).

I believe that wiping or setting up a secondary world is not the way to go, but rather create more late-game (or end game) content for the players that are unsatisfied with what is currently available. I'm talking about automated events, a more advanced weapon forging system (a custom made one that allows for even more end-game items), custom PQs that require a very strong character.

The exprates right now are excellent, fairly objectively speaking. If you were to lower the rates, many would be unhappy and quit immediately, others will realise after a while that they have lost their motivation; grinding is just too slow.

The same would be true if you wiped the server.

If you setup a second server, you would think that it would be a paradise, and that the nostalgia would be overwhelming, and that oldschool hardcore grinders would come flooding to the gates, but the truth is that the community would only be split up, making it look like the server is a desolate place. A second server is NOT the way to go. There are way to many crappy, lowrate "oldschool" servers now, don't turn this one into that aswell.

That's why we should keep both servers open and introduce a second lower exp server with more custom things during the BOOM period like christmas/easter/next summer.

This will also attract old (competitive) players!
People won't be prepared to get a bishop to 140 on a 4x server then leech another character all the way to 12x+, so less self leech!
Also we could add more competitive content like removing AP reset drops.
(more things to do with NX)
[I got alot of ideas i've made with Dan, so message me]

This will also mean a longer period being 30-70 so more people doing PQs, since people level so fast in royals, PQs basically become pointless.

I also like the idea of people struggling to kill zakum (i love new beginnings)
& I just don't feel like its an achievement being 200 on this server / levelling on this server / having good equips on this server.
    It's way too easy.

I do prefer a server where the capability of getting experience, white scrolls and chaos scrolls are A LOT harder than it is at this moment. Also the experience rate is just too easy for me still. I prefer 4/5x exp but on the other hand. The server would get the people spread in the two servers. We might get some extra people but that will be a reaction that also might work into our disadvantage. If I can be really honest… I kinda lost motivation since I found out ways to get about 1,5/2bil on a good day off. It’s simply too easy and therefore, I utter honestly don’t know what’s best for the server.

I agree completely, that's why we release it during christmas (when we have a higher player/community)
Also I think v62 + more custom content is the way to go.
Because Matt has worked so hard on this HurricaneMS source, and it's so well done and hardly glitchy/buggy at all.
I feel like a v83 or v75, we would have to double our developers and it would be too much work.
Atleast if both servers are v62 we can have the same developers since the glitches/bugs will be the same.

So we should implement a 4x server when
    1) Bigger player base (christmas)
    2) Fix stuff like GPQ/Rings
    3) Release custom content like BPQ
