In case you still want to know the answer to your question, or in case anyone else wants to know, you can choose the gender of your character on the character creation screen
If in case that they haven't yet given you enough detail: In the character selection screen (where you choose your name and see a randomly generated character, which by default, is male), there will be list, if you will, of what that character looks like/what they wear and at the very bottom it should say 'male'. If you click it, you can then select next/back to the female option. Hopefully that's a little bit more helpful in case you ever decide to return.
