I've seen these donation progress meters on other sites (e.g., wikipedia) that show how much donations have been made in the month vs how much is required for that month's upkeep. I think people being aware of the server's financial status will help to make us better decisions about donating/re-donating.
It would be fun to know, could potentially go the other way with ppl stop donating because this months server cost goal has been achieved.
Yeah, although that would be a relatively nice problem to have, and most places usually don't have that problem. If it's a real concern, have a separate meter showing progression towards some server upgrade or something.
We are getting the new source that is the biggest upgrade ever and the server has specs that are very much capable of running everything, don't think any server upgrade is needed unless you mean like paying developers. The server was still at negative funds if you look at the whole server lifetime at least last time Matt answered a similar post.
Lemme say, without going too much into detail, that the server wouldn't even be around today if it wasn't for Matt going into his pocket because the requested donation wasn't met. All of this because he didn't want the server to be P2W. Other players, like myself, were donating too but we never started to get good amounts of donations until RP were introduced
I heard some small things like that before too, I mean it's true dedication and it shows why everyone loves this server me included.
I'm all for reinstating this. I remember Matt posted explicit costs a while back (not gonna bother to look for it) and costs have definitely gone up since then. This would definitely help people understand how much the server actually costs to run. On a slightly related note, I still think there should be Quarterly RP sales.
