Mage or Warrior are good first picks for a class without any funding. However, just play whatever you want. Pick something you enjoy and have fun!

Paladin to be exact, CR mains are kinda rare and very much wanted for most boss runs. Especially Krex, zak Scarga, which happened to be your main source of exp once you start bossing
If you want to get rich quickly make a mage and sell leech, but you won't be able to do much bossing. If you want to boss go for a Bucc/warrior, though it will be hard to make money quickly
