im a bit confused is self banning wasting the staffs time? i thought helping out the community especially those struggling was one of the jobs of staff :c
This 'self-ban' is also kinda questionable https://royals.ms/forum/threads/self-ban-request.171361/ Asking for a ban so that others under the same IP address won't be able to play Is it really fair to the other player without informing?
I'm assuming in this case, the player who asked for the self ban had already checked with the other player but this does raise a concern though - is it at all possible for GM to just ban the account and the MAC address of the player requesting for the self ban so as to not affect other players in the household? Of course this is also assuming that they don't all share one computer.
100% agree it is dumb and unnecessary. I have god damn ADHD real bad, and when I find the addiction to this game is getting to be too much, I do 3 things: 1) I uninstall the game/ delete its folder. 2) I delete the installer (etc) if it's still in my Download folder. 3) I post on the forum saying bye to add to accountability; I don't want to look like one of those immature revolving door dumbasses, so once I've posted, I stay away for ages. Most of my hiatuses are 1+ years, and my actual playtime is measured in weeks. It's far better to teach yourself to manage your own addictions without outside intervention. There are many situations in life where we can't ask for a ban, or where doing so could have far greater consequences. I wouldn't even say it leads to entertaining forum drama. It leads to the kind of drama that's actually frustrating and painful to read cause you're left wondering wtf is wrong with the individual posting and I even have to stop myself feeling sorry for them being so devastated about being unable to play a 2D side scrolling game. We can do better drama!
I personally don't mind issuing the self ban, if it helps ease someone's mind that their account will be safe when they return then that's good enough for me. What I can't stand though is people wanting to come back before their self ban is complete I understand miscalculating dates and times, but once it's in place it's staying there until it's the date that you asked for.
You see, that's the thing. They feel: "Oh, I didn't ban myself. A GM banned me. Let me ask a GM to unban me because they were the ones that banned me, not me." ... And then they throw a tantrum at the GMs because they weren't "being nice or understanding". They feel this way even though they acknowledge that they asked for it because ultimately someone else did it for them. They figured that, regardless of time, if they wrote a little story, a relatable excuse, then the GMs would "change their minds on banning me". Good riddance. If we have a system where they can ban themselves without needing assistance, then they can only blame themselves.
