I think this would be a fun server wide monthly sporting event/festival (as well as a new lounge system for groups to set up their own tourneys whenever for some fees) Players can talk to an npc in the lounge or the game npc in hennessys and buy in at something like 5-10m Top three winners get a cut of the pot. Tourney rankings can be seen on an updating scoreboard, and the final matches can be on view in the FM television screens Prizes could be: a medal for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places that only lasts til next month (Omok Master INT+10, Omok Strategist INT+9 , Omok Tactician INT+8 ) Or unique omok boards, gold, silver, and bronze boards, and unique pieces (if player doesn't want the pooled mesos), untradeable nx, omok nx effects for one month, chair, etc RP Omok varsity jackets NX for champs and their spouse, and regular ones available during the tourney, bought from the FM NPC Omok tourney smegas for sale and use only during the tourney, to yell some support Omok Guru chair (player sitting on a mushroom, with an Omok board on a stump in front of them) Additionally a way for groups to set up and do their own small tourney signups in the lounge (as well as 1v1 bets, taxed) all that signed up are randomized into brackets in a lounge room. A simple tournament bracket elimination system with character IDs. Folks would love this! Stipulations: -Participants have all chat groups/ch megas/smegas blocked. Aka no all/buddy/guild/alliance/spouse/whisper/chatrooms, all types of megaphones and super megaphones, and localized message items are blocked -Omok megaphones only work if you're on the same ch, and you only see it if your IGN is selected, so you won't be clued about any other participants remaining or axed -No multiclienting, no streaming Other Omok QoL Block center 9~49 points for first two moves for randomisation Or block randomized points/sections for the first two moves Way to trade monster etc (200) for a custom Omok pieces of that monster Way to customize your two sets (for example mushroom & trixter, or leatty & dark leatty) Board colors (beige, mocha, orange, yellow, dark brown) Custom nx game room bubble [EDIT!] Maple Archeologist @Inugami has dug up the perfect thing for this:

Idk if it is, but my intuition says that omok is a solved game. If prizes were involved, people could just run a computer simultaneously for optimal results.
To keep it brief (and I don't want to entertain that particular topic in this thread), I don't think it would be for Omok. A general Omok QoL would be to block the center position, the next surrounding 8, the next surrounding 16, and the next surrounding 24, for the opening two moves. Or randomized blocked positions/sections for each game on the first two moves. Sounds like a weird/unnecessary thing to add, but instantly makes all games unsolvable/randomized due to first move randomization. Other considerations would be: -to make your opponent anonymous in server tourneys -block all chats/smegas, so no hints/cheating (Omok megas, not smegas, need to change that too, would be standardized, I'll edit this in, they would simply say something like "[random encouraging phrase], [selected participant's IGN]!" and won't appear to any other tourney participant but you so you wouldn't know who remains/has been elliminated -Unable to multi client if enrolled in a tournament, unable to stream. Sounds finicky but simple measures to ensure against under the board shenanigans, making the festival much more sporting and fun Even without the monthly server festival aspect, smaller tourneys and the abilitity to host them would be fun (randomized anonymous matchups, and a bracket UI, agreed upon meso pots, etc)

Sure sure. Some aspects were kinda feedback-y as far as simply suggesting concepts, but whatever will help with the festivities!
For a tourney like this and as someone who loves to play Omok, I think Omok itself needs a little rework in terms of its rules - I'm thinking following something similar to Renju rules because it balances out the advantages of "black" and "white". Renju rules simply just makes it so that: "Black - the Starter" cannot have 3x3, 4x4, or 6 in a row, but everything goes for "White". There is a strategic advantage for the first move, and these rules help counterbalance that by giving "White" other advantages. Also, it's very annoying when you have a potential 3x4 setup but the potential 4 line having skipped a space in the wrong place will cause the system determine the setup to be 3x3 and forbid making the move instead. Hopefully that gets fixed whether there's a tournament or not lol
Right, like I was saying, I think to avoid any of that, have the center 49 points blocked for the first 2 (or more) moves, or randomized points blocked for the first two (or more) moves to eliminate first player advantage, I don't think it needs to get any more technical than that
