Fun fact! This soundtrack was named as Mapleland and even though it sounded pretty much simillar to the current one, it has a slightly different tune on some parts.

As I stated above, CODASOUND was the studio that was responsible for most of the memorable soundtracks in Maplestory and from 2007 onwards, Studio EIM is the one who composes most of the soundtrack until today.

 

Here's some more stuff, I suppose? And I'm not gonna talk about Zakum because, honestly, the story of a tree that grows in Hell is kinda old already.

Spoiler: Pink Bean and mythology

I know that Royals don't have Pink Bean (or used to have?) yet, but there is a some Norse mythology being referenced on Pink Bean's fight.

Those two statues are called Hugin and Munin, which is a pair of ravens that flies all over the Midgard and brings information back to Odin, which is a widely revered god in the Germanic mythology, usually associated with wisdom, knowledge, poetry and whatever the hell he's associated with. By the way, Hugin in Old Norse means "thought" and Hugin means "memory", which is kinda fitting with Temple of Time setting.

These two statues are named Solomon and Rex the Wise. I'm pretty sure Solomon the Wise is a reference to, I dunno... Solomon the Wise? The one king that is so fabulously wealthy and wise of the United Kingdom of Israel that succeeded his own father, King David. You know about that. As for Rex the Wise, I have no idea where does he originates from. All I know is that Rex in Latin means "king", so he is literally the Wise King. Boring.

Now here's another Norse mythology that Nexon slipped in Pink Bean's fight, the map itself.

Specifically the map's name, as you can see, Twilight of Gods, which is also known as the Ragnarök, a series of events, including a great battle, foretold to lead to the death of a number of great figures (including the gods Odin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdallr, and Loki), natural disasters and the submersion of the world in water. Pretty neato.

Spoiler: Ars Goetia in Maple?

Before we begin, what is Ars Goetia exactly? Ars Goetia, also known as the 72 Pillars or the Lemegeton is a group comprised of seventy two demons with exemplary strength and their own legions. They are listed in the grimoire Lesser Key of Solomon. Now what does Ars Goetia had to do with Maplestory?

I'm sure most people remember this questlines, which was introduced in v83 Maplestory back then that gives you a pretty decent starter hats for new players (gives you around 12+ on main stats, depends on what class you are with 10 slots for enhancement). Those monsters, are known as, respectively, Marbas (Magician), Amdusias (Archer), Valefor (Thief), Crocell (Pirate) and Andras (Warrior), lead by another monster called Astaroth (main leader).

These monsters from the questlines came from the said Ars Goetia, and here's what they are actually :

Astaroth is a Crowned Prince and Great Duke of Hell.

Andras is the sixty-third demon spirit that was summoned by King Solomon that was added in the Ars Goetia.

Marbas (or Barbas) is described as the Great President of Jinnestan governing thirty-six legions of demons.

Amdusias (also Amduscias, Amdukias, Ambduscias) is a Great Duke of Jinnestan. Is associated with thunder and it has been said that his voice is heard during storms.

Crocell is the 49th spirit of the Goetia, manifesting as an angel with a tendency to speak in dark and mysterious ways.

Valefar, also known as Valefor, Malaphar, Malephor, or Malephar, is a Vampyric and Hellish Duke of Hell and the sixth demon listed in the Ars Goetia. He tempts people to steal and is in charge of a good relationship among thieves. He leads people into thievery and leaves them at the gallows.​

Here's some of the oldest, probably lost and unused NPC sprite from the beta . No idea what purpose they served but two of them could be just a guard NPC and one of them is a merchant NPC.
(by the way I tried Googling them to see what they do, but I couldn't find any results soo... Anyway, what I meant "from the beta" is the Global version of Beta, because this stuffs came from the Korean version of Beta. Also, if you know Korean and can provide me with a better, accurate translation, do let me know so I can edit the Dialogues section!)

Kinda simillar to Barnes, he has a "quest" string that says "magician", probably handing out quests to magicians explorer. Also I don't know if his name is actually Ebla and this Embla is really interesting one.

Obviously a merchant NPC, and on her "info" strings was a "shop" string that lists items that she is selling but, I couldn't be bothered to check them out, so just assume that she is selling the most basic items you'd expect in the shops (pots, arrows, stars, etc.). Also, she's the only one that has an animated sprite of her kissing, which is just for 2 frames.

Seems like these NPCs would be placed around Amherst and Southperry. They might just be a placeholder sprites, even though I'm not sure why would you go such length to use them as a placeholder when they can just re-used the same Todd sprites over and over again.

Spoiler: Beta FM Maps

I know everyone knows about Free Market back then being separated, depending on where you are instead of being one map depending on where you are located like we have right now. But back then, I'm sure players only got to visit Henesys and Perion ones despite there is El Nath and Ludibrium versions of Free Market maps too, but since El Nath and Ludibrium was locked back then, no one really get to see how it looks like, unless... yknow.

Quite an odd map really, Perion's rocky ground isnt really an ideal choice to FM hoeing around. Will you fall of the map if you go to the edge? Don't think so.

There's no special Free Market gate for this one, I have no idea why. I honestly adore this one so much, it's cute!

And lastly, El Nath Free Market Entrance~

For some reason, El Nath only has 5 Free Market room instead of the usual 9 rooms. Also it bugs me that Orbis has a Free Market Entrance too but they didn't have an Orbis style map, which is just odd to me.

Spoiler: Maplestory

Did you know that the heroes that went against the Black Mage, Mercedes, Aran, Phantom, Luminous, Evan and Shade spells out MAPLE? And in the revamped Explorer storyline, your fellow Explorer NPC, Sugar, Tess, Olivia, Rondo and you spells out STORY? (even though "you" in the story had a name, actually, which is Kao, so this whole thing would spell out MAPLES STORK. Also, it's the very same Tess and Kao from Ellin Forest too, by the way, with Kao being you.)

Spoiler: Peach Blossom Island

Did you know that CMS, TMS and MSEA had a totally different wedding system before they switched to Amoria called, Peach Blossom Island?



It's a very straightforward and basic marriage system too, where all you need to do is :

1. Form a party of 2 (1 male and 1 female character)
2. Pay a visit to Tang San Zang in Henesys or Fa Hai in Orbis
3. Talk to the NPC Monk and pay 2000 mesos to go to Peach Blossom Island
4. Fulfill the marriage conditions:

• Both must not be already married
• The couple must have the couple ring equipped (1 party member must purchase the his and her set).
• The couple must be wearing the wedding costume. Purchase it from the Cash Shop (available in unseemly, traditional Oriental and Western designs).

5. Talk to Tian Bing to get into the Marriage Palace, pay him 100,000 mesos to do so.
6. You can invite your friends to witness the joyful occasion with invitation cards from the Cash Shop.
7. Find Yue Lao in the Matchmaking Hall, double click on him to say your matrimional vows. Engagement rings will be given to both of you.
8. Yue Lao will announce to the server that you are married!
9. You will be bought to the Banquet Hall to host your wedding dinner. YUM SENG!

If you face difficulties in your marriage, you should speak to your close friends or marriage counselors. If matters cannot be resolved, you may divorce your partner.

To annul your marriage:
1. Visit Tang San Zang in Henesys or Fa Hai in Orbis
2. Talk to the NPC Monk and pay 2000 meso to travel to Peach Blossom Island
3. Talk to Tian Bing to go to the Divorce Hall. Pay him 1 million mesos to do so.
4. Speak to Wu Yuan for divorce.
5. You and your partner will be divorced. Your partner will be informed and both engagement rings will be removed.

Talk about the price of divorcing.

Spoiler: Fishing

I remembered that MSEA had a Fishing System back in the ye olden days, but never got to try how it feels like because, you need to spend real money to just buy a fishing rod. It's basically an afker spot but hey, at least you get to do something meaningful rather than dying in town because some jackass decided to Galore sack you. I wonder if we can implement this system someday? Maybe it will not be 100% accurate to the ye olden days, and maybe some people won't like it because it kinda encourages AFKstory, but eh. If it's possible, that is.

Anyway, what and how does Fishing System work in Maple back then?
Fishing is a means for players to earn experience points, mesos, ores and fishes in the game by simply, afking.

​

What are the requirements to fish in Maple?

• At least level 10 to be able to enter Fishing Lagoon
• A Fishing Chair, which can be obtained for 50,000 mesos in Maple back then (it's in Nautilus gachapon if you looking for it in Royals)

​

• Either a Fishing Rod or a VIP Fishing Rod in Cash Shop

​

• And of course, a fishing bait, the regular bait (120 baits, purchasable with 3,000 mesos) or the delicious bait (120 baits, obtainable from Cash Shop)​

​

How do you fish?
It's simple, just get all the required items needed to fish (rod, chair, baits) and find Fishing NPC Kedrick in any town to gain access to Fishing Lagoon. Once you're in there, just open up your inventory and bring out your fishing chair. The process of fishing is done automatically, meaning that all you have to do is just sit and do nothing. Basically an afking or a social gathering spot for fishermen, fisherwomen and fisherthem alike.

​

Depending on the fishing rod you use, the character will gain something after every 30 seconds / 1 minute. “SUCCESS” will appear on top of your character if you have gained something significant. A non-profitable yield will give only 10 mesos otherwise. Easy peasy!

What can you get by fishing, exactly?
Varying amounts of mesos, roughly 100 to 15000 mesos per bait (if it were to be implemented, this can be adjusted, of course), some ores or crystals, varying amounts of experience point and obviously fish used in a quest or trade them for items.

​

Why fish at all?
Basically, players fish mostly to gain experience. This is especially relevant to high level players (4th jobbers). Each fishing session using only Regular Baits can yield approximately 0.5% experience. If combined with Delicious Baits, each session will yield 1-2% experience. For a low level player, 1-2% experience gain can be attained in a matter of minutes; for high level players, 1-2% experience gain could mean 1 million or 10 million experience points. Hence, it is not worth the mesos or real life currency to start fishing at low levels. But of course, if this system were to be implemented in Royals, adjustment can be made.

You mentioned about the fishing quest...
Yup, NPC Chef in Lith Harbor has a quest related to fishing, The Secret Dish of Great Chef (now you know what purpose does he serves, at least.). The quest requires a certain number of a particular fish type and size (e.g. Whitebait 3.6cm). You may end up with a good number of carps of varying sizes but not the one needed by the quest (specifically, Carp 100cm), hence it is not possible to complete the quest in 1 fishing session. Most of the time, you will have to fish for days or weeks to finish this quest. The quest is repeatable but the reward is mediocre, so no point doing it to be honest, unless you are aiming for Quest Specialist, depends. Again, rates can be adjusted so...

What happens if my ETC is full during fishing?
You don't get anything, duh. Or accurately, you won't be getting any new ores or fishes until you clear out a space. Let's say, you have an emerald ore and a 30cm Carp and the rest is just junk, you still can get emerald ores and 30cm Carps, but that's it. You still can get experience or mesos, though. And a wasted bait.

When can I buy fishing baits? And what does "each fishing session" refers to?
Baits can be bought once a day only and will reset daily at midnight, server time. Technically you can buy baits right before midnight and plan to buy another set of bait when it hits midnight, but in order to do so, you need to finish your previous set of bait before you can make a new purchase. Of course, this can be adjusted if it were to be implemented.

Each fishing session here refers to the how many baits you have, which is 120 regular baits or 240 baits, if you bought the premium ones. The duration of the fishing will depend on the fishing rod you use. For example:

1) Ordinary rod: 120 regular baits = 120 minutes
Ordinary rod: 120 regular baits + 120 delicious baits = 240 minutes
2) VIP rod: 120 regular baits = 60 minutes
VIP rod: 120 regular baits + 120 delicious baits = 120 minutes

Anyway, enough explaination.

MSEA back then had a fishing related event too, where everyone gets a free 7-day fishing rod and all you had to do was to fish for “Golden Fish” and “Golden Fish Egg” and exchange them for special items, which was :

1. 500 Golden Fish to exchange for Supreme Fishing King Flag (All Stats +8 – Validity Period of 10 Days)
   
2. 300 Golden Fish to exchange for Strawberry Ice Cream Bar
   
3. 200 Golden Fish to exchange for Chocolate Ice Cream Bar
   
4. 100 Golden Fish to exchange for Melon Ice Cream Bar
   
5. 50 Golden Fish to exchange for Watermelon Ice Cream Bar

And more rewards, such as :

1. The Mapler who has the highest number of Golden Fish Egg as of 6th April 2010, 2359hrs will win a Reverse Weapon of his/her class.
   
   
2. Mapler who has the highest number of Golden Fish as of 6th April 2009, 2359hrs will win away a Fishing King Medal (All Stats +10 – Permanent Item).
   
3. And the 2nd to 30th Mapler who has the highest number of Golden Fish as of 6th April 2010, 2359hrs will win a Medal of Fishing Master (All Stats +7 – Validity Period of 90 days).

Just some extra information, that's all.

These mobs are surely giant, holy cow. All the sprites here are directly ripped from the game so the sizes are pretty much accurate.
