Instead of randomly and unexpectedly turning the server back online after a server check, My suggestion is, when the server is ready to go online, have a timer or a chat message saying server be up in X amount of time (let's say 30 seconds for example) and pull the switch when the time is up, thanks, will be greatly appreciated.
You can get enough of it with a countdown too, having a countdown makes it more fair and gives everyone a chance to get that fm spot, right now I'm feeling that some people are notified before others
It's very weird how a suggestion to make a change for the better gets backfired, how can a simple countdown hurt someone except for those who clearly have their own methods to be online first.. Doesn't make sense how people that login as soon as Karven sends a message saying that the server is up, are last to be online. If there was a countdown people could sync their own timers and login all at the same time and have a fair fight, but w.e, the majority clearly are against that simple suggestion for some reason, I'm backing down from the idea, you can close the thread.
I'm not sure whether you're with me or against me on this one, what you're saying kinda supports the idea of improving and moving on to better ways of receiving information, I wouldn't rely on the newspaper for the stock mark if that's what your'e implying, I would use an app, just like in this situation, spamming buttons for 20 minutes straight just to connect to a game... just seems.. primitive and not efficient at all.. Why not move to better and more efficient ways of communication between the staff and the players? at the end of the day what you want is to make progress in the game and achieve certain goals, not get a thrill out of what the other guy said, I get it that some entertain themselves with some kind of weird rush that they get from the uncertainty of when exactly the server will be up, but in my opinion that certain bunch are those 24/7 players and donators (no offense), but there are other players too, new players, that can contribute to the community and depriving them of basic knowledge that you all have is just hurting the server at the end of the day, in my opinion a new player that just started today and hit level 50 should have a shot at getting a FM1 spot after a server check, and not just the same all people over and over. If the staff are interested in not just preserving the old players, but also in welcoming new players and giving them a chance in feeling the game and having a shot at those kinds of things then I think they should start looking at not just this suggestion, but more improvements of this sort. Because from the way I see it, 80% of Mapleroyals are the same people that been playing the game for years on and off, most of the new players get frustrated, quit, and never come back. Anyhow, that's my take on it, the way I see it all the people that are against this suggestion are long time players that are used to the comfort of being ahead, the other's that voted for the suggestion are the ones that, just like me, want to try and balance things out. Plus, leaving every reason that I stated aside, I think a countdown would just look good and excite many players that see it, making them anticipate and wait for the server to start, unlike the way it is right now where many players just move on to doing other things or playing other games (except for the bunch that have been playing for years and won't give up even if they have to sit there for days waiting) since it is always uncertain when the server will be up, and before you say it, many people know that the "approximately 30 minutes" have been delayed even to 2 hours and more in the past, and that's all good, issues come up, that's not my complaint, my suggestion was to have at least a few seconds or minutes notice after the server is ready and before it is online.
System is fine how it is. They give an ETA how long the server check will be, you can refresh the homepage to see when the Login server is up (usually 5 mins or so before the ETA), there you will be able to start the client, sign in and idle at the channel selection page. You can then wait for a shoutbox message or try and keep spamming -* too much spam will cause your client to close. The notion that people are cheating is simply untrue, you can see how many people are online the server before its up, usually 3-5 (ALL GMs) and all of which are usually sitting at the entrance. I've done the above every server check/patch and I've always gotten a spot granted i'm in the correct FM room and I have merchant available. I'd rather our limited dev resources be used for more important projects Do the above that I said and I guarantee you will get a spot
That is literally how it was back in the maplestory days,i would spam go get in for hours just to get in to kill area boss, except mapleroyals is waaay more punctual about server coming back up. It is not wrong wanting to be more efficient, until they implement the changes, i share my tips of getting room 1-6 door spots to quench ur frustrations: 1)disable PIC, it is how it is dont flame me lol 2)dont look at shoutbox, open homepage instead (u dont have to refresh, it updates periodically) 3)get ready for server status to go from OFFLINE to ONLINE, usually they will test first so the player count will be like 2 , then 3/4 4)login, and click channel gently (dont spam too much, if too many error messages appear u will dc) 5)tadaa , get in before everybody else.
I don't mean to pile on but... This suggestion only seeks to serve those who want to grab FM spots. I don't necessarily enjoy the spam clicking or the rush (can be fun some times), but I'd venture a guess and say that even with your time suggestion, spam clicking will still be essential to grabbing the best of spots. In other words, I think this suggestion is unnecessary and doesn't really make things any easier. It makes perfect sense to me. It already is a fair fight. The login server is up usually way before people are actually let in. Where exactly is it unfair? I don't think people are necessarily as against your idea as they are against the wild claims/assumptions you seem to be making. As for your second long take, I think you are blowing this way out of proportion. This is not a serious staff-player communication issue, nor is it pushing out new players in my opinion. I was a new player and learned how to exist in FM relatively recently (since December?), and I'm sure future new players will fit in as easily. If they don't, then they probably weren't serious enough about this to begin with, which is also OK.
Also just a PSA about the above-mentioned Please refrain from spamming login when the server isn't ready to login There have been cases of players account getting stuck this way and would need to wait till the next server check (usually 2 to 3 weeks later) I am aware that it doesn't happen often, but it can happen
