So I'm pretty sure I got banned because I defamed somebody 3 times. I was going to do the Ellin forest bosses, in this case Ephenia, and one of my character died since somebody attacked some of the faries which knocked it off the platform, I showed my displease of this by defaming him with all my 3 characters and changed channels to continue doing my business.

Now I've seen that apparently the rules got changed that mass defames got changed to anything more than 2. So by that I understand that this ban, by the rules, is fair.

However, is this honestly ban worthy? The fame and defame system is so I can warn other players about someone else's behavior. As by the wiki " Fame is used to quantify players' popularity within MapleStory" I simply showed that I was displeased by his action and left after that. (well we did have a brief conversation about him reporting me, and me not believing that 3 fames was considered mass defame).

I've been playing this server for almost 6 years and have been a good boi, I'm honestly struggling to believe I got banned over something this trivial.

 

Hello, you are correct with your theory of why you got banned.

I understand that you were displeased with what happened, but you could have stopped after 1, or even 2 defames in this case.
Yes, the rules have changed, and we have to uphold them as they stand now. I have no doubt that you are a "good boi" and I hope to see you back online in a few days

 

Hi, in that case I'd like to file a report for the quest "The Remberer's Passion" upon completing the quest I was given 5 defames, I think this is unacceptable behavior, and should obviously be punished by removing the NPC "The Remberer" for 3 days from the game.

In all seriousness, this is ridiculous, would it be possible to have another GM take a look at the case?

Hi Becca, thanks for the reply! I requested an addition review of my case because honestly I'm still a little bit dumbfolded as to why I am banned. I was inconvenienced by another players and I retaliated by defaming him with my characters that were present. I didn't go out of my way to move characters to him, or to log in to additional characters to defame him. If this is bannable behavior than, in my opinion, the rules are too strict and should be reviewed again. Faming and defaming is part of the game and shouldn't be punished unless it is clear there that there is malicious intent. If I had been doing ephenia with my friends, instead of mules, the 3 defames from me and my 2 other friends would've been ok, but now that I have used my mules it's considered mass defame.

 

Hi Becca, I find it hard to understand that the staff team came to the conclusion that anything above 2 defames is considered mass defame. It's an imaginary number that doesn't affect gameplay, even the quest system shows that actions can influence this number greatly, I had my justified reasons to defame the player.

In my opinion it seems like the staff team has lost touch with the real world, you consider non meaningful actions such as defaming and faming on the same level as actual harassment, you shouldn't be micro managing your community on such a level that everyone has to fall into exactly the same line.
